Some of the streamers have begun to fall down by now but overall the hall is still looking the same as it was two hours ago, only with more people

"I want punch," Jaye pouts.

"Want me to get you a glass? It's not bad," she offered.

"I'm afraid there will be ickiness later," she says, still pouting.

"Oh, geez, that stinks," Sam said. "All alcohol, or just punch?"

"Just the alcohol," she says. "Though really, punch without alcohol? Not really anything to write home about."

"Unless it's all about how you threw a glass on someone and ruined their white dress," Sam said, then added, "not that I ever did anything like that."

Jaye looks interested. "Are you saying that in the 'no, really, I never did that' way, or the 'I totally did it and am pretending to be all innocent', because if it's the second thing, I want a story."

Sam blushed. "One of my best friends at the Academy was dating a girl, and she was saying some pretty awful things about him when he wasn't around, not to mention the fact that she was sleeping with anyone in a uniform."

"Sooooo...." she drawled, wondering how she'd ended up telling Jaye this story, "There was some kind of dance or formal event, and she was there, looking like a little whatever in her pure white dress and with her perfectly coiffed hair, sipping at her punch, and I just accidentally tripped and fell into her. It was quite tragic really. Looked like she'd been gutshot."

"Okay, that's awesome," laughs Jaye. "And now someday I want to trip my drink onto someone. Maybe at prom." She pauses. "Though to play devil's advocate, uniforms are a good draw, unless it's like, what they make you wear at McDonald's or something."

"Oh, I know they are," Sam grinned widely, "and it's one of the best parts of having a father with friends who have sons who are in the military, but you don't have to sleep with everyone on the base."

"Yeah, that does kind of turn you into a chlamydia factory after a while, at the very least," she agrees. "That's when you just admire the pretty on the... base." That feels like a really weird word to say. "From afar. Or close up, just don't start macking."

"A chlamydia factory?" Sam burst out laughing, "And yeah, the base is definitely good for that. The Academy, too, if you don't mind arrogant flyboys."

"Okay, where the hell are you getting flyboys and can I have one?"

Still laughing, Sam said, "I'll have to take you to the Air Force Academy in Colorado sometime. They're flyboys in training, but they'll work just fine for your purposes, I bet."

"I just need to look," she says, because when you really think about Jaye's dating habits at this school, she's kind of developed a Type. Therefore, just looking. "I'm not picky. I just want to see the pretty. And maybe pet it once not dirty."

"You better tell them that up front then," Sam teased, "and there's lots of pretty to look at. Kind of like here, but with less leather."

Jaye thinks about this. A lot. It's happy thinking. "You're killing my no-touchy argument here, Sam."

"Sorry," Sam said, though she wasn't. She finished off her punch. "So, downside to having a date who also has a date? Much harder to locate when you want to dance." Or just cuddle in close, though she suspected it was Cedric's turn at Jack for the night.

"Ooh, yeah. That's when you grab random people and force them to be a substitute for four minutes," Jaye suggests.

"I may have had enough of grabbing random people for one day," Sam mumbled.

Jaye tilts her head at her. "Samantha? Have you been naughty?"

"Kissing booths are evil."

Jaye nods with the look of someone who knows. "Who?" she asks.

Sam couldn't believe she was about to say this out loud. "Anders." She drained her cup of punch, then refilled it and drained that.

Not giggling really, Jaye pats her on the back. "There, there."
