Perk - Friday afternoon

John stopped at the Perk for a cup of coffee and to delay heading up to the school. It wasn't that he didn't think the visiting parents should be able to talk to him about their children's progress, it's just that it wasn't exactly his idea of a fun way to spend an afternoon. Frankly he'd much rather be hunting down another ratwoman or two.

So... procrastination in the form of caffiene.

[ooc:open for all you Perk needs but John's thread locked to a certain psychic from Kansas.]

It didn't take Missouri long to find John, but it still took longer than she would have liked. Of course, she could have told him she was coming, and had him be somewhere waiting for her, but that would have taken a good deal of the fun out of her visit.

"There you are!" she said loudly, coming up beside him. "This island is a lot bigger than it looks in the school's pictures."

"You didn't really expect me to not check up on the boys, did you?" Missouri asked with a smile. "Or to not check up on you, while I'm at it."

"I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm dying to hear the sound of your voicemail," she replied. "But there's nothing wrong with a little in person contact, especially when there's a weekend designed for it."

"Sometimes I wonder if you even had a mother, or if you were just raised in the woods by animals with no manners." Missouri fixed one of her patented glares on John. "I'm here to check on Sam and Dean, as a family friend who's concerned about their well-being. Trust me, I count more than some of the people I've seen running around here."

Jake was sulking. Not that he was admitting to it, of course, but the way he was poking at the cream on his mocha with his spoon was definitely sulkily.

[identity profile] krycek-rat.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"What's wrong?" Krycek eyed Jake over the rim of his own coffee cup (one sugar, no syrups), harboring a few suspicions as to the cause of his boyfriend's sulky demeanour.

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nothing's wrong," Jake said, unconvincingly. He jabbed at the cream again. "I'm just sitting here, enjoying my mocha, like every day."

[identity profile] krycek-rat.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
After watching him for a few moments, Krycek cocked an eyebrow. "This about your dad not being here?"

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2006-10-20 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Jake sighed. "Maybe," he admitted. "I mean, I get that he's busy and work comes first, but it's just..." He waved his spoon vaguely. "I don't know."

"He did spend the summer with us," Krycek said mildly, sipping his own coffee again.

Sakura felt more than a little odd, and it wasn't just because she had felt the need to get a little dressed up. Nothing fancy, just a little more publicly presentable than jeans and a t-shirt. This was supposedly a date, after all.

He felt the need to be more gentlemanly than usual this trip, and held the door open for her to pass in front of him. //I had a latte last time I was here, what do you think would give more of a kick?//

Sakura had to ponder that for a moment. //Cappuccino, maybe?// She suggested.

He stood at the counter and looked up at the options. He wanted something strong somewhere deep inside told him this was going to be a long day..., so he ordered a cappuccino was a double shot of espresso if thats a logical drink? and leaned his back to the counter. Conversation was really failing him at the moment.

Sakura ordered a cappuccino herself, minus the espresso. She, unlike Hikaru, didn't want to be up until next week on caffiene. She too leaned on the counter then, folding her hands in front of herself. //...So.//

Evie came in with a bounce, smiling at Jonathan. "It looks like any coffee shop in Cairo, doesn't it? They serve espresso that's lovely. And sandwiches that are quite good."

[identity profile] sand-n-fortune.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, if the coffee shops in Cairo weren't disgusting with sand and fleas..." Jonathan said. "But I could do with a spot of coffee and something to nibble on."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Was the ocean trip as quick for you as it was for me? I'd expected weeks, and it was nothing like that." She leaned over the counter, and ordered an espresso and a club sandwich, then turned back to Jonathan, taking off her hat. "Have you had any news from Mother and Father recently?"

[identity profile] sand-n-fortune.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Mum's holding up the home front. Father's still doing cataloguing work for the British Museum. You'd think with a fortune the size of theirs, they could spend a little more time off, but no, work work work." Jonathan's nose crinkled. "At least, that's the last I heard. Father's not exactly pleased with me at the moment."

[identity profile] bookyeve.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, Jonathan. What now?" Evie asked in a resigned tone, moving away from the counter so he could order. "He seemed much less out of sorts with you after you got the job translating. How could he have reason to be annoyed?"

[identity profile] sand-n-fortune.livejournal.com 2006-10-21 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I got caught up in a bad bit of rubbish, Evie," Jonathan moaned, almost honestly. "Locals selling trinkets as genuine artifacts. I had no idea." Except where he did. "The local police shut them down and my partners ran out with all my money. Father had to come to my rescue."
