The Perk, Sunday Afternoon

Dawn bought herself a mocha, then sat down at one of the tables to wait for Buffy. Even with the tape barrier (and tape barrier violation this morning), she was going to be very sorry to see her sister leave.

"Oh yeah?" Calm, cool. Yep, that was totally Dawn, except where it wasn't. She tensed a little. "How'd it go?"

"He told me all about how you're rude and disruptive in class and never do your homework," she said seriously, just to see Dawn's reaction.

"What?" Dawn tried to defend herself, "I'm totally not! Okay, there was a fire the first time, but that was Bel being all demony and using a fireball against a ghost, not me!"

Buffy's eyes widened a little. "Wait, there was a fire?" Probably a giveaway that this hadn't actually been discussed, but Buffy felt fire was an important detail.

Oops. "It was a simulation. And Bel used a fireball against a ghost, and it went through the ghost, because hello, ghost," she rolled her eyes, "but it did hit the house behind then ghost, and then we were running out. But no burns," she added quickly.

Buffy's eyes were very wide. "Um. He forgot to mention that part."

"Or maybe he didn't feel it was necessary to mention, as opposed to me who just ran off at the mouth." She facepalmed. "I was totally safe, Buffy, I swear. We just learned not to do that again."

"And it was just the one time, right? You weren't witness to any full-blown explosions or anything, right?"

"In class? You bet." Dawn nodded, happy to be able to tell the truth. "There was a jello dragon invasion, but that just involved me punching it."

"How did I go until Sunday without hearing this?" she wondered. "Okay, a Jello dragon... That's just some exotic species or something from some weird hell dimension, right?"

Scary how this was more acceptable than an actual dragon made out of Jello.

"Just lucky?" Dawn suggested, then shook her head. "No, no hell dimension, as far as I know. Just flying dragons made of Jell-o. Mine was strawberry banana, I think. Xander ate his."

"You know," Buffy said thoughtfully. "That doesn't surprise me at all." She shrugged. "I think when I heard 'invasions', I was thinking more like demons and vampires. Not flying food."

"I haven't seen any vampires, I think I'm friends with the only demon in town, and there was a mummy invasion, but I had nothing to do with them coming to town either," Dawn made a face. "Huh. I'm slipping. Oh! The Gentlemen came to town, but they're gone now. We had to hide in the dorms while the adults took care of them."

"Um, hi, heart-stealing demons came to town and no one told me?"

"We forgot?"

Buffy glared a little. "And, by the way, if the adults say they can handle it, they can handle it. Because heart-stealing demons." One day, Buffy was going to have to ditch the 'listen to what I say even if I did worse at your age' thing.

"They totally handled it!" Dawn flailed a little. "I just told the principal what I thought it was, because of the last time. My heart and I were inside at all times."

Also, notably, Dawn still wasn't telling her sister about opening a portal to get Dean back thing. "So...what do you think of Sam?"

"I think he should stay on his side of the tape," she said, though she only said it because she couldn't think of anything she found wrong with him. That was a little frustrating. Well, there was the whole part where he dumped Buffy, but that wasn't her and really, it just wan't the time.

Dawn blushed.

"You tell me if he gives you any problems, and I swear I will come back and beat him," she said. "But I think he's good enough to know better." That might have been said a little grudgingly.

"I will tell you if he gives me any problems," Dawn rolled her eyes, "but I doubt he will. He's really a good person and completely non-vampy. Dean's more the 'couldn't care less about the rules' guy. Which was fine, until I kissed Sam by accident, and then there was lots of confusion, but we're all good now."

"What about you?" She asked, playing with her mocha. "You dating anyone?"

"Not at the moment and men suck no matter how old they can get but that's a story for another time," she said quickly. "Guys can't handle me anyway." She'd go with that excuse.

Dawn blinked at Buffy, never having heard her sound quite that way before. "Okaaaaay. So're you giving up on guys, or on dating as a concept?"

"Meh. Neither. I've just been busy, and I'm waiting for more vampires to get souled in the meantime," she shrugged. "Or if Josh Hartnett happened by, I wouldn't turn that down."

"More souled vampires, huh?" Dawn reached for Buffy's hand. "That's not a bad thing to wait for, I guess. Or you could just become Josh Hartnett's stalker."
