Movies in the Park, 10/25

The portable screen has been set up once again, and people are beginning to stake out their favorite spots. With the weather cooling off, outdoor gas heaters have been set up in various locations around the cinema area.

Bring your date or meet your friends, or just find a quiet place to enjoy a good movie. The film begins at dusk.

[OOC: The movie begins at dusk, and the screen will be removed afterwards. OCD threads ~~will be~~ have been set up for your movie-going use. Anyone who needs the park for other purposes will find that the outdoor cinema takes up only a portion of the park, with plenty of space available for non-movie needs. This is the first in a series, which will run every Wednesday until mid-November (barring an unexpectedly cold autumn).]

"Sounds yummy! Although I'll pass on the wine," she laughed. "Unless you feel like scooping me up and herding me home. And no, I never have. Is it good?"

"It's one of my faves. Romance in Rio, with great outfits. Well, Miami first." Parker pointed at the screen, where Ingrid Bergman was pouring wine for party crasher Cary Grant. "Then Rio later, even if it is cheesy blue screen."

"Then I will sit back and prepare to be entertained," Isabel said. "Cheesy blue screens are fun."

"Then heeere you go." Parker shook her head as Ingrid and Cary 'drove' along a Miami highway, arguing all the way. It got even cheesier when Ingrid had to pull over in response to a motorcycle cop. "This is the part where you start to think he's a bad guy."

"But he's not?" she asked. "It's all misdirection?"

"Oh, he's a good guy." Parker took a sip of her wine. "And a complete bastard. See?"

Cary had just slugged Ingrid to make her stop having a temper tantrum about being spied on.

"I don't know, I've occasionally thought about doing that to Maria when she starts getting hysterical over the latest alien turmoil," Isabel shrugged. "But usually I leave it to Michael. He'll kiss her and suddenly she's all distracted."

"He should've kissed her first instead of slugging her," Parker said, flopping down on her stomach, legs in the air. "See, now he's trying to recruit her to spy on the former Nazis in Rio. He couldn't have just been up-front? Sheesh." She turned back to Isabel, and asked, "So. Are you going to the Halloween party this weekend at the apartment complex?"

"A guy? Direct? Isn't that against the rules or something?" she chuckled. "I really hadn't thought about it. Maybe? If there's a crowd going, I guess. Although I really need to come up with a costume."

"Must be, although, it's Cary Grant. He can get away with it." Parker shook her head as Alicia caved and agreed to spy for the U.S.A. "I'm going, and I've got my costume picked out. Not that I'm telling you what it is." She grinned at Isabel. "Dr. Wilson and Mr. Phale are going as Bund, Bund villain, and a couple students are going as Bund girls."

"True, he does have a certain charm," Isabel nodded. "Not even a hint? Please?" She sighed, "I'm seriously clueless. But a Bund girl is definitely not an option."

"One. And only one. One of many, many, many goddesses. And that's all I'm telling." Parker grinned and took another sip. "You could go as-- a princess? Or Wendy the Werewolf Stalker?" She paused. "Ah. More cheeeeeesy blue-screen as they fly down to Rio. At least in black and white, it's less noticeable." She shook her head as Cary stared a Ingrid like a guy who had not had a vacation in far too long. "Kiss her, you idiot."

"Oh? So a toga?" she asked, eyebrow raised. "I'm trying to think of the appropriate goddes for you and I'm not sure if I can come up with the right one." Isabel shrugged, "I have to think about it. Maybe I should just ask my mom to overnight me one of my Crash Festival costumes and do the alien thing."
Giggling at Parker's reaction, Isabel patted her. "If he kissed her now, that would kill the rest of the movie wouldn't it?"

"Well, yeah, but, Cary Grant!" Parker protested, then grumbled as he asked Alicia to flirt with the bad guy. "You couldn't just ask her to shoot him?"

She grinned, and said, "I didn't say Greek, did I? And you'll see if you go." She blinked. "Crash Festival? Wait, that cheesy alien thing in Roswell? Heh. That'd be amusing. I think I'd like to see that."

"I'd want poison, it's cleaner."

"Oh really? Now I'm intrigued," Isabel said, curious. "Of course no I'm going to have to go, at least for a bit." She made a face, "Yes, that cheesy thing that celebrates the fact that my intended life got screwed up. That used to bother me."

Parker took another sip, and snagged a cupcake. Chocolate cupcakes didn't really go with the wine, but so what. "Used to? It doesn't now? And c'mon. It's a party all about you, either way."

Alicia and Devlin were kissing *now*, finally. "I hate this next part."

Isabel shrugged, "In some ways it still does. But when I think about what my life would have been like if the ship hadn't crashed, what I would have missed...Maybe sometimes I'm glad for the crash."

"Oh? what happens?"

"What do you think it would've been like?" Parker wondered. "I mean, would you be older? Living somewhere else? What?"

Parker sighed as Devlin got a phone call to go into the office, kissed Alicia good-bye-- then had his bosses ask him to ask her to 'get really friendly' with the head Nazi, Claude Rains. "That. And he doesn't even tell his boss to go to hell." She made faces at Cary.

"I'm not sure. I think of how Tess turned out and I guess I'd be colder. And I'd have a betrothed husband for real," she said, making a face. "Now that's a scary thought."

"Oh that is low. Bastard."

"Okay, now I'm *really* glad for crash landings." Parker made a face. "Euugh. Betrothals. Thank God that's never been an option."

She watched Ingrid look heartbroken and proud at Cary, then agree to go play Mata Hari to Claude Raines. "If he weren't a Nazi, I always think she should stick with him at this part. He's much sweeter to her during this part of the film."

"Nope, especially now. Maria would have my head."

Isabel sighed at the screen. "Isn't that the way it always is? The bad guy plays nice at first. But ultimately, he's still the bad guy."

"True enough. And Devlin's being a bastard, but--" Parker watched him be all hurt and outraged that Alicia had done what he asked, and rolled her eyes. "But he's also deeply clueless, I think. Gah." She shook her head. "I really have to meet Maria at some point. She sounds fun."

"Didn't she use her secret mind reading skills?" she asked. "And realize that he wasn't going to be happy that she did what he asked." Isabel smiled fondly, "Maria's a bit of an odd one, she's all about the cypress oil and panicking in a crisis. But she's the best thing that ever happened to Michael."

"You'd think Ingrid Bergman would know better. Love makes you stupid. And takes away your secret mind reading skills." Parker took another sip of wine, stretching a bit. "You've never really said much about the guy-who-would-be-hubby. Is he anything like Max?"

Isabel took a sip of her cider and nodded in agreement. "Yes and no. He's harder then Max. I think that's because of everything he went through in foster care. He's also more suspicious. He's going to freak when Max tells him what when on here this weekend."
