Empire Records; Wednesday [ 11/15 ]

Chad had brought his guitar with him to work again, as well as the music Zero had left for Try Not to Die (Moron). He was going to try his hardest to actually figure out what all the marks and dots and lines on the paper translated into. Progress wasn't going to well, though. He was almost looking forward to someone coming in and interupting him so he could get himself away from the extremely frustrating task.

Sheet music sucked. Impromptu for life, yo.

Sometime in the afternoon, El Mariachi's distinctive clinking approach could be heard outside the store.

It stopped momentarily, then came back and the man entered the door himself.

"//Is that you trying to play, Chad?//"

//"Tryin', yeah..."// Chad responded, not looking up at first, frowning at the sheet music in front of him on the counter.

El wandered in and stared down at the music. "//Is there any particular reason you are not suceeding?//"

//"Can't read this crap,"// Chad said. //"S'not how I play..."//

El picked it up and leafed through the music. "//Do you not know how to read sheet music?//"

//"Nope. Tried to learn, can't. Don't know if I really want to, either..."//

"//Not my place to judge. Do you need help learning this, then?//"

Chad considered whether or not he felt like being stubborn and insisting on learning it on his own.

He was much to lazy to be stubborn.

El nodded. "//Well, I could go home and get my guitar and bring it back here, or you could come around my house after you get off of work. Which would you like?//"

Pippi flounces into the store holding her copy of Try Not to Die (Moron).

"Hi Chad! I was wondering if you could help me with something."

Chad lifted a hand in greeting. "Hey, Pippi; what'cha need?"

"I don't read sheet music... Do you?"

"Nope. Been trying all day, no such luck."

"Hmmm," Pippi looked around. "I don't suppose there's anything in the store that teaches such a thing?"

"I've checked out the books over in the sheet music section. They didn't help me. But maybe you'll have more luck?"

Pippi got a bit of a glint in her eye.

"You mean they weren't helpful or you mean they looked boring so you didn't bother with them?" she grinned.

"Uhhh..." Chad's eyes shifted. "Second one..."

Late in the afternoon, Zero breezed into Empire. "Okay, so, this morning after I woke up and was less sleep-deprived I realized this might be more help," she said, thrusting a CD in a jewel case at Chad. "Here. It's kinda crap quality, because I recorded it on my laptop, but what can you do?"

On the CD was Zero attempting to hum the bass part to "Try Not to Die (Moron)". Just, you know, a few octaves higher.

Chad blinked at the CD as he recieved it from her, and then looked from Zero, to the sheet music, and back to Zero.

"If there weren't a counter between us, I'd hug you right now."

"You can hug me later," Zero said with a grin. "The sheet music still has the lyrics, though. Those could be helpful."

Chad nodded. "Yeah. That part, I understand good enough. I like 'em; it's a good song."

"Well, I was pissed off inspired. So, got any good musics up in here?"

"Lotsa good musics," Chad nodded. "Kinda got some of everything. Lookin' to pick up anything particular?"

Zero shrugged. "I dunno. I kinda already have most of the punk musics. Well. Unless it came out in the last four years, because I am from the past. Shh, don't tell," she teased, because she honestly didn't care. "So, anything in that period?"

Chad nodded, sealing the secret away to the grave. "Uhh, I'm not too versed on the new stuff, either, unless it's J-Pop, because, y'know, the whole stuck in Japan for a few years thing." He looked at Zero, trying to decide if she'd be into J-Pop. The fact that he could picture it scared him a little. "I mostly like the old stuff." He paused, thinking again. "Elvis is always good."
