James T Kirk Memorial Causeway, Saturday Late Morning

Contrary to any weather patterns on the island or the mainland, the causeway was shrouded in a thick fog. Its tendrils were slowly spreading out through the streets of Fandom; if it continued at the same rate the entire town would be fog bound in a few hours. It was cold and damp and dismal, the perfect weather for a viking raid.

Or in this case...

If anyone was around, they would have heard a sound like distant rhythmic thunder start to come out of the fog. It got louder and closer until it became possible to pick out many rough deep inhuman voices in it, along with the rhythmic boom, boom of many large feet hitting the ground in unison.

Gradually large dark shadows appeared in the fog, revealing themselves as very large, very ugly.... things. If anyone was watching and knew anything about certain non-human species, they would've recognised them as trolls.

Row upon row of lots of big, ugly, vicious, dim-witted trolls stomped their way out of the fog. When they were all through, the two trolls at the head of the group called a halt to the group. You could tell they were the leaders because they both wore shiny helmets with big pointy horns on them.

"Right!" the first one, Grrarg, yelled. "We have orders. Group... you guys here," he said, waving his hand at the left handed side of the troll horde, not quite sure of counting to one. "Follow me. We go to where the females are. Protect them, stomp on anything trying to hurt them. Maybe get laid."

A cheer went up from the trolls he'd indicated, while the others looked maybe a little annoyed that they weren't chosen. Maybe not. It was hard to tell with trolls as they always looked a little annoyed.

The second leader troll, Gragrr, addressed the possibly annoyed trolls. "We go church," he said. There was a long pause as the horde waited for more, but that seemed to be Gragrr's entire motivational speech. A half-hearted cheer went up from his group more out of duty than real enthusiasm.

"Right!" Grrarg yelled, raising his large cudgel (which he called Big Stick Good For Hitting Things) over his head. "We go now! Everyone follow!"

Slowly with a lot of grumbling and other less pleasant but nonetheless usual troll noises, the group split into two and headed down the streets of Fandom to their chosen destinations.

But trolls were not known for the focus, or their dedication to a cause and as they went, a large number got distracted by all the lovely things they were passing that they could smash. As a troll brain was very small, it took little to no effort for them to forget their orders and convince themselves that they were really here to loot and pillage and rampage. Most trolls could turn anything into an imperative to loot and pillage and rampage. It was a genetic gift.

So it was that the groups that arrived at Efferton and at the church were much smaller than the groups that had started out from the causeway. And there were random groups of trolls running around Fandom having a trollish good old time hitting and smashing things.

Door isn't blind to the fact that they're being herded "We're a little busy," she yells, shaking her head and reaching down for a bit of wood herself, not that she thinks it'll be much use in her hands.

"Sorry, I've got a boyfriend," Isabel said, deciding that small talk really wasn't going to work. A flick of her hand and the piece of driftwood went flying towards the troll's head.

A piece of wood isn't a sword, and those things are big enough that Door doesn't think she could bat them away with it if she kept it in her hand, so she follows Isabel's lead, and throws it. Except not with her brain. She scuttles in the opposite direction.

"Oh Crap!" Isabel muttured, stepping backwards. There was another piece of wood and she sent that flying towards the trolls as well. "I suppose it's too late to offer to buy you coffee now?" Obviously she's been hanging out with Peter too long if she's starting to make wisecracks to the bad guys.

One wings aross Door's shoulder, slicing a shallow but painful cut. "Shit." She ducks towards the nearby rocks. "We've got nothing to defend ourselves with," she shouts to Isabel. "Unless you can actually throw them?"

"Where's an M-16 when you need one?" Isabel asked no one in particular. She dodged a shell, slipping in the sand. "I can try." Raising her hand, she tried to channel all the fear she felt and send it towards the troll. If she did it right she should be able to send him flying.

The fish thwacks Door in the head, though being a dead fish, it does a lot more slimy sliding than direct impacting. "Well, that was rude." She rubs her head and ducks down to grab the fish by its tail and throw it back. "Good job, Isabel!" she shouts when the troll is tossed backwards.

"It's a start." She looked around, seeing that there were still enough trolls around that beach to prevent them from making a quick and easy exit. Unless they wanted to swim. It being December, that wasn't really an option. Remembering what she'd show Max, Isabel waved her hand and sent a small cloud of sand into the air towards the nearest troll's eyes.

"You know, that's not nearly as pretty as when Seely and Peter did it." Door uses the cover of the blinded, groping troll to run for a bigger outcropping of rock, but realizes they're still hemmed in. "Isabel, can you throw them all? If not, we need to get out of here."

"Oh my god..." Isabel might never look at boykissy the same way again. "I can try, but I've never done anything like that before. It might just piss them off."

"If you can get past enough of them to make it over here, I think I can get us away," Door shouts, eyeing the natural archway formed by three of the rocks near her.

"If you can get us out of here, I'm there," Isabel called. She eyed the nearest troll before starting to run towards Door.

Door holds out one hand to her, and reaches towards the opening in the stones with the other, calling the door that could be there to open and let them through. "Take my hand!"

Dodging trolls, Isabel reached out for Door's hand, wondering exactly what she was going to do.

Isabel stumbled forward as the cudgel just brushed her shoulder. Fortunately that brought her within reach of Door's hand. She grabbed it an held on tight.

The space between the rocks glows white and then dark, as it changes from potential to just-for-a-moment-real. The distance to what's on the other side is a bit of a stretch, for a door where there isn't already one and places she's not as familiar with as home, but nowhere near as hard as getting here in the first place.

Door pulls Isabel through the opening by her hand, and they stumble out into the lobby of the dorms, through the double doors that were always there.

Isabel blinked and looked around. She'd been expecting something but it still surprised her. "Wow. That's cool! Thanks!"

Door sways a bit, woozy for a second, but then ok. "I think Jack and Evie aren't having lattes, for some reason."
