Empire Records; Wednesday [ 12/27 ]

Chad really had no motivation to work today. And those magazines weren't going to last very long at all. He reminded himself to turn the pages very slowly.

Playing a rotation of all his own copies of the Christmas mixes he'd made seemed to alternately want to help or worsen the problem.

Nadia came in early on in the day. It had been quite awhile since she'd actually come to Empire to shop.

"Hey Chad," she called as she headed over to what had at least once been the "why don't the radio stations wise up and play this stuff?" section.

Nadia had been flipping through Flaming Lips cds, considering shoplifting just for old timessake, but looked up with a grin. "Oh yeah? Yay, presents." She headed over to him. "Is it a guitar playing stuffed llama?"

Nadia's eyes shifted sideways as she said: "I wasn't going to lift anything. . . ." Then they slid back to look at the CD, her mouth forming a small O as she looked over the track list. "Nice mix. Thank you, Chad."

Nadia shook her head. "I haven't even given out half of the Christmas presents I owe people, yet." She slipped the CD into her bag, then turned to flip through the CD racks again. Oooo, Jenny Lewis made a CD. "I think I've only managed to give you yours and Walter his. Which . . . is pretty lame, when you think about it."

Nadia nodded. "What number would I have been if I hadn't happened to come in here?" She pulled out a CD by a band called Arctic Monkey and looked it over. Somewhat promising. She cast Chad a sideways glance.

What would he do if she did shoplift something? Just to see if she still had it?

"You said I was fourth already. Does that mean I'm fifth? I should be insulted, or something." Nadia calmly and smoothly slid the Arctic Monkeys CD into her bag, working on how to disable the security device without a magnet available. "You obviously don't care for me, any more,"

"Well, I admit I was a bit . . . busy for that, since my mun was exhausted by RL Christmas and kept crashing out an inopportune times still, you could have come to find me." Jenny Lewis she would pay for, she decided, since she could possibly get Chad into a conversation about her roles in some other indie bands and distract him from her trying to run her purse over the deactivation field thingy that she hoped was still in the same spot in the counter. One more CD, then. She kept sifting through. "You do know where I live, don't you?"

"Room 507. You should come by and meet my cat at some point. I think he'd like you." Nadia had already decided not to bring up Jude at all, to avoid any possible emo. Speaking of . . . she pulled out the soundtrack for some dopey teen drama, looking it over. Not a bad bunch of depressing songs. "He's blue."

"The color. I found him that way. In a dumpster in New York. It was kind of a 'he followed me home, can I keep him', only with a bit more 'I put him in my backpack to make sure he followed me home' thrown in."

Her selections made (and the soundtrack and Arctic Monkeys tucked into her purse, since both were somewhat unknown quantities and she didn't want to have to pay for them if she didn't absolutely have to), Nadia headed up the counter, holding out the Jenny Lewis album. "Do you know if this one is any good?"

"Well, there are certainly ways I could test you," Nadia leaned over, resting her purse on the top of the counter, and probably giving Chad a delightful view down her shirt. "For instance, I could ask what you thought of her part on that one album, oh, what was it called? You know, with that guy from that other band?"
nadiathesaint: (grin)

Nadia's smile only grew, and she shifted forward slightly (coincidentally running the contents in her bag over the deactivation field for the security device). "Let's go with the Postal Service, for the time being. Then perhaps go on to Rilo Kiley."

Nadia was not oblivious to the closeness, either. She was also not unaware of the fact that Walter was never able to have music conversations with her about anything modern. "I have a couple of their albums, if you'd like a copy. I like about half the songs, honestly, but some of them are really fantastic."

"Well, I love the Jenny Lewis songs, but the ones where Blake sings," she shrugged, now forgetting about the lifted CDs in her purse. "His voice just kind of drags, doesn't it. It makes the tempo of the songs seem way too slow."

"You should. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it." Whatever it had been that "it" was. Right, she was buying CDs. "How much do I owe you for that one?"

Nadia herself straightened up a bit self-consciously, pulling the purse back off the counter to root through for the wallet. Right, the other CDs. Well, this experiment seemed to be a successful, so far. "Thanks, Chad."
