Empire Records; Wednesday [ 01/03 ]

Chad picked up the phone. "Empire Records, open 'til midnight," he greeted. Then paused.

A really long pause.

"Midnight." Click.

Hey, Chad actually remembered to go to work today, unlike, uh, Monday. He'd been here Monday, really. In spirit, anyway.

Pippi poked her head into the store.

"Hey Chad."

"Oh, hey, Pippi," Chad lifted a hand in greeting before leaning on the counter. "What's up?"

"Doctor Wilson is in a coma." she said rather then going for the obvious answer.

Chad's eyes widened a little and he straightened back up. "A coma? How?"

"I dunno, but according to the radio Mr. Phale took him into the clinic on the first... I don't generally listen much to the radio but I just felt like downloading the last few days to hear what went on for new years..."

"Aw, maaan," Chad rubbed the back of his neck and frowned. He didn't know Dr. Wilson very well, but he was the one who took care of Jude when he broke his leg, so he definately felt concern and worry.

"I was just about to go visit him. See what I could find out... I thought I'd stop and get some music for him... Do you have any suggestions?"

Chad made a small humming sound as his thumb and forefinger stroked his chin. "Hmm, well, that depends. What sort of purpose do ya want the music to serve?"

"I want it to be upbeat and cheerful, but not... loud or... I mean... He's in the clinic. So... I suppose a certain amount of... Decorum? Is called for? I don't got much of that."

That made Chad grin a bit. "Let's see...upbeat, cheerful, not too loud. Good for healing..." Chad thought about it for a moment, moving from behind the counter to go through a few racks of CDs as if for inspiration. His mind was having trouble focusing on anything other than the usual stuff, and he wasn't quite sure if that would work.

"...How about that Riverdance stuff?"

Chad nodded. "That'd work good," Chad nodded. "Was also thinking..." Where was it? He knew he'd ordered some. "Ah, yeah, here we go. Emuzeki. Traveling violin and guitar duo; upbeat, but also soooooothing." Because a man in a coma apparantly needed to be sooooothed.

"Soothing like Enya... Music to sleep by, soothing? Or soothing like comforting?"

Chad shook his head. "Some of it's sleepy-type, but I don't think the Doc needs any help with that. Comforting. Most of it'll make ya wanna dance a little, which is more what he needs."

"I think that's good." Pippi nodded. "Make ya wanna dance is very good... Do you want me to tell him anything for ya?"

Pippi wasn't sure Chad knew Wilson very well but the concern was noted.

Chad nodded. "Yeah, jus' send him my get well wishes, okay?"

"Sure." Pippi said... and then added.

"You know what?"

Chad's head tilted. "What?"

"We're still cool."

Chad grinned a little.

"Well, yeah."
