Sitting on the grass, The Doctor was playing checkers with a stuffed bright pink rhinoceros.

Her business regarding the Squishy Machine concluded.

Jane decided to head back to the TARDIS.

And then saw The Doctor.

The Doctor gave Jane a wave before going back to concentrating on the game. "Haven't gotten me yet," he said.

Jane is pretty sure he actually has.

"Doc? The fuck are you doing?"

"I'm playing checkers with Mr. Locke," the Doctor said.

The pink stuffed rhino gave Jane an acknowledging nod.

"Just when you think you're used to this fucking place..." She muttered nodding back at Mr. Locke.

"Why is his name 'Mr. Locke'?"

The rhino turned his head back to the game and pushed a checker forward.

"Because that's what Vicki always used to call him," the Doctor said.

Jane didn't bother to ask who, or what, Viki was.

"Maybe you should switch to dice..."

"Maybe you should try chess," Rosette suggested, stopping a bit to watch the rather fascinating game for a moment on a stroll and an attempt to escape studying for a bit.

"I like chess," the Doctor said. "But he prefers checkers, he does. Already beat him at Snakes and Ladders, though."

"Of course he prefers checkers, 'cause he's clearly better." Her head tilted a little more. "Checkers is like tic-tac-toe, though. Very little strategy except hoping you get to go first and that the opponent will make a stupid mistake."

"Ah, but a lot more capability of error in checkers," the Doctor said. "Though not when you take forever between each move."

The last bit may have been some pointed commentary at his stuffed opponent.

"Hello, Rosette, by the way."

"Hello, Doctor." Rosette smiled and went to go join them on the grass, folding her legs in front of her and getting a better look at the board.

"Quite clearly," she said after a moment, "he's just building up for a dramatic victory." She eyed the little pink rhinoceros. That definately had to be it. Anyone with coloured so brightly had to be a bit of a whore for dramatics.

The rhino reached forward to push a piece to another square.

"He really is," the Doctor said. "Getting a bit self-satisfied, I think." He turned his head to smile at Rosette. "And how are you today?"

Rose decided it was no better time than now to visit the Tardis and the Doctor but today. She was munching an apple when she found the Doctor sitting on the grass playing checkers with a stuffed animal.

"You're losing to a stuffed animal." She said by way of greeting.

"You're pointing out the obvious," the Doctor said. "Hello Rose."

"'Lo, Doctor," Rose said, smiling. "And, yeah, I am. Any reason why your losing to a stuffed animal?"

"He's very good?" the Doctor said, and the pink rhino proceeded to make his move.

"Oof," Rose commented with a mock sympathetic wince, "He's got you there, Doctor."

"You come to do something other than mock me?" the Doctor said, moving one of his pieces into a strategic position.

"I'm warning you," Red was saying to Leo as they strolled along. "You put one hand near that hole in my back, and I'll put my foot so far up your ass, your nose will bleed."

The Doctor was quite engrossed in his game, that he didn't really take note of the hostilities between Red and Leo.

"Wow you're really uptight man you know? You should be more like that guy." he pointed to the Doctor and his fuzzy companion.

The Doctor looked up. "Thanks for the compliment," he said, before going back to looking at the board.

Leo studied the board too, as if he knew what he was looking for. Red scoffed and went to look at the statues.

The Doctor made another move and stared intently at the pink rhino.
