Café Fina, All Day Monday

Lumiere had noticed that, at some point during the night, the boards over the kitchen door had been removed and then placed back up again differently. He wasn't going to be the one to point any theoretical fingers, but he had noticed that the sassy saucer had a little extra bounce in her step today, and he was certain that he heard one of the cooks humming 'Be Our Guest' through the re-secured door.
Just so long as their service remained stellar and the kitchen was still sanitary, he didn't much care one way or the other.

The specials board today reads:

Today's Special: Grey Stuff
We don't know what it is exactly, but believe us when we say it's delicious.

Jim strolled in with Lana on his arm, looking a little bemused by today's special and the dancing flatware.

Lana smiled at the sight of the unconventional servers. "This looks like fun," she said.

"Uh huh," Jim replied vaguely as the saucer let them to their table. "This town is weird."

"Quaint," Lana said with a grin. "Which is the fancy word for weird."

"You'd be the expert," he said innocently, holding her chair for her and everything.

"Brat," she said with a grin, and sat down gracefully.

Jim trailed his eyes over her bare neck and shoulders before sitting himself. "I try."

Lana posed a little for him as she looked through the menu. "I have no idea what to get," she said with a smile. "Something tells me I'm not going to get a grilled cheese here."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Well if that wasn't distracting . . .

"You could try the grey stuff," he grinned. "I hear it's delicious."

He could have sworn he saw some back-up choreography out of the corner of his eye . . .

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
"The grey stuff?" Lana said dubiously, then shrugged. It's not as if she'd be eating much of anything anyway. "Okay."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
Jim sincerely hoped she would eat some more than that. He may not have touched her much over the last week, but since they had made up he had been doing a lot of touching. He had noticed.

"If the dishes recommend it . . ."

Oh, he was glad he had daddy's credit cards right now, looking over the menu. He had the copy with the prices on it. She didn't.

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Her menu didn't have any prices on it. Oh. She knew what that meant. "Are you sure you want to eat here?" she asked, worried it was too expensive. "We can always go somewhere else."

"With you looking like that? We're in exactly the right spot." His hand snuck across the table to take hers.

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
She twined her fingers in his. "If you're sure," she said. "Why don't you just order for both of us. You know what I like."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Jim squeezed her hand and ordered for both of them, resisting the urge to order a huge meal for Lana. He knew she wouldn't eat it and would just feel guilty. He did order some grey stuff for himself, though.

What? He was curious.

His fake ID (legacy of former schools) was even good for a bottle of wine.

Lana smiled across the table at him, still holding onto his hand. "This was a wonderful idea. Thank you so much."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
"You deserve something special. And why shouldn't today be an extension of all that exhausting pampering yesterday?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Lana grinned. "And tomorrow we don't even have to get out of bed."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
He trailed his eyes down her neck and over all that bare skin. "I know."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
She shivered at his look. "God, when you look at me like that..."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
His eyebrows arched slightly. "Yes?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
A slow smile spread across her face. "That's for me to know and you to find out."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Jim groaned. "You're evil."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
She just batted her eyes at him innocently, then smiled up as the saucer brought over their first courses.

She thanked... her?... and spooned up a bit of the soup, which was delicious. She might even manage a few spoonfuls of it.

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Jim started telling her about this restaurant he had been in while he was in Japan as he slowly ate his soup, so he wouldn't feel so much like he was tracking her every bite.

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Japan," Lana said a little dreamily. "I'd love to go there some day. And you make it sound even more fun." She swallowed another spoonful of the soup and played with what was left.

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe we'll go over the summer," Jim suggested. "I know a few people, I could get us a place to stay . . ." His knee nudged hers under the table as he reached the bottom of his own bowl.

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really?" Lana said, eyes sparkling. "I'm sure I could get Lex to let us use his jet to fly over." She took a last spoonful of her soup, mindful that she had a fair amount more food to get through with this dinner, and set the bowl off to the side. "Did you want to finish this?" she offered. "I want to save room."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
He hesitated. It had been good soup. So he took it. "Thanks."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiled at him, enjoying watching him eat it. Before long, the salad and main course had arrived. Lana did her now-habitual splitting the food up into sections and moving it around while nibbling on bits and pieces. "Oh, this is very good, too," she said with a smile

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim tentatively tried some of the grey stuff. It was, in fact, delicious. He offered a bit to her with a hopeful smile.

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
She tried a bite and smiled. "It is pretty good," she admitted. "Just looks... odd."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim chuckled. "Odd? This looks pretty normal. My definition of 'odd' is a little flexible at the moment." His knee pressed against hers under the table. "Yours is good?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
She pressed back on his knee and smiled at him. "Very good, thank you. But a lot, I'll get to bring a bunch home for tomorrow."

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] sensitivejim.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Get to, not have to. "Probably better than cafeteria food," Jim agreed. "Is that singing thing I heard about true?"

Re: Be Our Guest!

[identity profile] lovelylana.livejournal.com 2007-01-30 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Lana laughed. "My first semester here the cafeteria was a pretty crazy place. And yes, the food could make you break out into random song. I haven't heard too much about strange things happening lately, but that doesn't mean it won't!"
