Batman strolled up to the bar and gave a winning, crimefighting smile. "Hello, chum. I'll have a tall, fresh glass of orange juice if you'd be so kind."

"Yes, sir," Jarod said, trying not to stare at the guy in the mask and tights. Just like Saturday night at the Sin....

"Your orange juice, sir. Fandom special."

Batman looked at the glass suspiciously before sniffing it. "When is a special... not a special?" he asked.

"When it's full price?" He almost answered.

"When it's poisoned," Batman said. He pulled a bat-pH-test-strip from his utility belt and dipped it into the glass. He pulled it out and was confident that the juice wasn't poisoned.

"I apologize, but I had a bad experience one time when somebody deemed my orange juice to be a special. You seem to be on the up and up, though. I'm Batman."

Mitch walked in, the faints sounds of a song one really couldn't hear playing behind him. He was twirling his buoy.

"Milk, please!"

"Mitch, my friend," Batman greeted. "Have a seat. What's shaking?" He was using bat-slang now.

"Batman!" Now, this was a man who knew water safety! "I've become convinced that I should leave my position on the board and teach these children how to swim."

"During February, friend?" Batman asked. "I know that they have a pool here, but as long as I supply them with some bat-water-wings, they'll be fine until summer."

"I tried demonstrating water wings to a teacher," Mitch said. "He was more concerned about getting electrocuted. The water is not dangerous if you know basic water safety!"

In another bat-continuity, this man would have looked more familiar to Batman. "Hello there, friend," Batman said, raising his orange juice. "Tell me, are you a teacher or a shop keeper of some sort?"

In another bat-continuity, he would have also known that long before coming to Fandom, but that's 1966 for you.

"I'm Batman," Batman said. "I'm visiting along with the rest of the school board. In fact, I do believe that means that I'm staying at your hotel."

Of course it did. He handwavily checked in earlier. But he had to be mysterious about it. Because he was Batman.

Jed got himself a glass of pure-grade whiskey since granny wasn't around to tell him no. 'Sides, he knew granny snuck a swig or two when she thought he wasn't looking. He didn't feel bad at all sittin' and enjoyin' a glass or three.
