Turtle & Canary; Wednesday [ 02/07 ]

"Seriously, you guys, if you don't stop that, I'm going to turn you all into scrap metal!"

Turtle had agreed to keep up the apparant tradition of playing thematic music, only because she knew that music that fit the approaching commercialized holiday would actually subliminally convince people to spend more money for it, but that didn't mean everyone had to sing along with it. They all knew her threats were empty, though. She needed Apu to cover her for class, Liz was needed to keep all the furnature from the furnature section herded, and the SquishieBot was secure in the knowledge that Turtle would never in a million years bring harm to her cash cow.

Cube, however, was on the list. Cube seemed pretty useless, really.

She's pouring over homework and the Westing Will, but she's still interuptable.

Tannim needed groceries, so he was there. His basket was filled with large quantities of Gatorade and bananas.

Turtle's head tilted at the abundance of Gatorade and bananas. "I'm guessing," she said after a moment, "that you expect to be attacked my monkeys soon, and, if the bananas don't convince them, you'll need the Gatorade to keep your electrolytes up so you can outrun them."

Tannim snickered. "No, but that's a good strategy if monkeys invade. The bananas are for potassium and the Gatorade's for electrolytes, of course. Helps keep my energy up." He realized that he hadn't talked about his magic with Turtle yet.

Turtle nodded a little, with a small smirk. "Well, if it isn't for monkeys, then what for? You don't plan on doing something that'll make me have to kick you again sometimes soon, do you, and expect that to help you escape?" Significant pause. "Because it won't."

"No, then I'd be buying shin guards," Tannim said. What the heck. When in doubt, tell the truth. "I'm going to open a gateway to Hell in my closet," he grinned. "Electrolytes and potassium fuel my magic."

Turtle's mouth gaped open, as if she was going to say something, and then, frowning deeply, she closed it again, looking thoughtful...Well, this morning her dresser drawers were playing games with her and last night Marco was telling her about how a T-Rex tried to eat him, so Turtle stopped herself and made herself consider if a gateway to Hell was really too far out of the question. She ruminated over it for a while before, doubtfully confused frown still in place responding.

"Good luck with that."

"Thanks!" Tannim said. He'd need it. "How're your classes going?"

Turtle shrugged; her classes weren't nearly as exciting as fueling up to make a gateway to Hell. "They're okay. Had a lot of tests lately." Her nose wrinkled. "And I didn't get detention from Vader this week, which is good."

"Not getting detention is good," Tannim said. "I haven't managed to get it so far."

"Twice, for me," Turtle held up two fingers, but she did so proudly, with a small grin. "How about your classes?"

"Going for a school record?" Tannim grinned. "My classes... are not like any other classes I've ever had."

"Oh, come on, this is, what, week five?" Turtle reasoned. "Two out of five times is still less than fifty percent. I'm sure someone's got me beat."

That didn't mean, of course, that now she wasn't thinking about it. And with Vader for a teacher, it should be easy as cake ~~or pie~~ getting detentions...

"I took all classes my mother couldn't complain about, but even then I got crazy Vader and the weird virtual reality bus. Which is different, but that's about it. What're you taking? How do I get stuck having Hikaru and Nova in, like, fifty of my classes and you in, like, zip?"

"You'd rather be spending time with me?" Tannim grinned.

Turtle snorted a laugh. "Don't get too excited. Have you met Hikaru or Nova?"

Though she wouldn't admit it, she thought she might have actually been blushing a bit there.

Tannim rested his elbows on the counter and leaned forward slightly. "So - you wouldn't be interested in spending more time with me?" he asked, feeling bold.

That was definately a flail welling up inside Turtle; she held it in with a furrowed brow. "I didn't say that," she said, worried tone because she didn't want it to sound like sat around all day just thinking about spending more time with him because she so didn't. "I...I was just saying that me wanting to spend time with you over them isn't saying all that much, because Hikaru's a jerk and Nova's a weirdo and you..you're..." she started to falter, shrugging her shoulders, and glancing off to the side a little, "neither."

It was really the best compliment she could remember ever giving anyone. Her eyes cautiously drifted back to Tannim to catch any reaction.

Tannim raised his eyebrows. "Thanks?"

With a slight grunt, Turtle closed her eyes to hold down a facepalm. Way to fail at life, Wexler. She shook her head a little before laughing at herself as if that embarrassed blush wasn't there as she chirped, "'Welcome."

"So," Tannim said. "Would going to a movie with me be something you'd enjoy or would you consider it just barely tolerable?" He smiled at her, with just the barest hint of a blush in his cheeks.

Eeeee.

Turle would still deny that blush, even if it was pretty obvious. She ducked her head for a moment until she could clear her throat and then she lifted her chin as she stated, "Barely tolerable. But doable." And then she smirked.

Letting out a sigh of relief or doing a little happy dance would be totally uncool, so Tannim just grinned at her. "How's Friday for you?" he asked.

Turtle, with a deep breath to conquer her nervousness, passed off as exaggerated exasperation, shrugged, but failed to dispell her grin. "I might be able to pencil you in."

"Excellent," Tannim said, collecting his change and picking up his groceries. "Pick you up at seven?"

"Okay! See ya, Tannim! Good luck again on that portal to hell thing!"

Don't listen to Turtle. The three of them harmonize beautifully.

Is it week 8 yet? Can't it be week 8 yet? It should be week 8 already...
