Turtle & Canary - Monday

Jane has been lost under a pile of empty bottles in the back.

Lizzy sits on the front counter keeping an eye on things while Apu cleans up broken glass and mops up... stuff, over by the currently mostly empty hard liquor display.

Apu is a little flustered today, so today's romantic music is actually "New Romantic":
Kings of the Wild Frontier

Today's Squishy Flavors:
Red, Caramel, Almond Whorl

Turtle & Canary is open.

Turtle decided to come in on her day off, to do some extra inventory, for the heck of it....Okay, no, she was mostly trying to avoid kissy next door neighbors. She thought it was strange that Liz was....um, working counter today, but didn't realize what the fuss was all about until she got to the alcohol section of her inventory lists.

She nearly dropped her clipboard. "Holy crap, we've been hit by a rampant alcoholic! Apu! Did you call over to the bars and warn them? They could be next!"

Turtle groaned a little, rubbing a hand on her face, afraid to even look at the wreckage again. "Please tell me there's still some wine in tact. With Valentine's Day right around the corner, and if we don't have any wiiiiine...."

She peeked cautiously through her fingers.

Turtle didn't care so much about them. Figures showed that they weren't nearly as big of sellers and so the deprement on their sales shouldn't be too effective. She would just have to bump up the price of what did remain a little to make up for the losses. But thank goodness. She held her clipboard over her quivering heart to silence it. Crisis (mostly) averted.

Turtle clutched the clipboard a little tighter as her eyes shifted toward Apu. "Please tell me you saw and heard that, too, Apu."

"I did, Miss Turtle."

She nodded. "Good. Gimme that," she held out her hand and took the broom from him, flipped it upside down, and then tentatively poked at the pile of bottles.

Turtle blinked, leaning in a little, almost afraid to confirm her assumptions. "...Jane?"

Then again, at the same time, she sure hoped it was Jane, because if it was some other, random, unknown alcoholic, all Turtle had to defend herself was a broom. Well, that and a kick of death, so maybe she'd be okay.

Turtle drew in a deep breath. "Well, at least I know it wasn't a crook..." she muttered under her breath. Of course, answering who didn't necissarily answer why.

"Jane, do I really want to know?"

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-02-12 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Turtle rolled this over her head several ways before deciding that she wasn't quite sure if she followed. "Um, well...y'need anything? I can run to the Perk and grab a really strong coffee for you, or something..."

There was a pause. "Or I guess I could just leave you alone. But you an' me might need to have a serious discussion on merchandice abuse, Ms. Canary."

That was Turtle using her stern voice.

Turtle nodded, and left with a trail of braid.

Returned long enough afterward, with coffee, that she manned the broom and poked again just in case Jane had fallen back into a drunken swoon.

Plus, it was fun.

"Coffee!" Turtle announced, probably much too brightly.

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-02-12 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Jane!" Turtle gawked, and then scrambled to snatch up any other bottles in her partner's reach; it was the equivilent, almost, of trying to drain the ocean by taking out a cup of water. Arms suddenly full bottles of booze, some of them not yet empty (Mr. Deadpool would be so proud), she just shook her head. "It defeats the whole purpose if put alcohol in the coffee...."

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-02-12 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"The purposes of Turtle & Canary as an establishment and as a whole!" Turtle responded as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Turtle knelt down to help Jane, frowning and feeling a little bad for maybe yelling too much. "S'okay," she said. "It's jus'....y'know. Law suit waiting to happen and all that...."

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2007-02-12 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Turtle nodded. "Buck up, Jane. I'm gonna let Apu get back to cleaning this up and get back to my obsessive inventory again, okay?"

Andy shuffled in, looking unsure and nervous. He had an LP single under one arm.

"Oh, hello." Andy said in halting english. "I am needing eh, player of record."

"Oh!" Andy said joyfully. "Theese ees just what I need! Tenk you veddy much."
