Café Fina, Valentine's Day

Walter stared in perplexity at the sign that read: While Supplies Last! Free ~~shiny~~ exploding pants with every meal!

And he left it up.

Why not? It was Valentine's Day. Let people's pants explode. In an entirely not dirty way, thank you very much.

There are roses on every table. Silverware that may or may not back talk, and the chairs have had a good talking to about staying where they're supposed to be when people sit down.

Café Fina is ready for Valentine's Day, even if Walter is not necessarily ready for Café Fina.

Rose nodded. "My father's sort of rich, alright, scratch the sort of. He's definitely rich." She shifted, "Uh, didn't I mention that before?"

"No." Clark said, but it didn't really bother him. "Even for the wealthy, isn't a Zepplin unusual?"

Rose shook her head, "Not for the world I'm from, zeppelins are the norm. We still have planes but more people prefer zeppelins."

"Did the Hindenberg Disaster happen on your world?"

"Pretty sure it didn't."

"I guess that would do it." Clark said. "Er, have you ever heard of the Hindenberg Disaster?" Since, if it hadn't happened on her world, she probably didn't know what he was talking about.

Rose smiled. "Don't worry, I've heard about Hidenberg even though it never happened in the world I'm in." She paused, hesitating, "It's a very long story why I know."

"One involving time travel and parallel worlds?" Clark asked. "Or just random research in Fandom?"

She chuckled. "Alright, not so long an explanation then. Parallel worlds and time travel pretty much explains everything."

"They're a very handy explanation for a lot of things." Clark said. "If I'd known about them in school I might have used them as an excuse for missed homework."

She laughed, "Very handy excuses indeed!"

"Now I wonder though, if something happened to prevent the Hindenberg disaster, or if Zepplins are just better constructed on your world."

Her world. It's years and she still didn't think of it as 'hers'.

"It's both actually," she finally said, "when the Hidenberg didn't happen, technology advanced to the point that zeppelins are much safer and durable."

"Do they come in different sizes like airplanes?"

Rose nodded, "Personalized to your own taste and all that rubbish."

"What does your father do that he's so wealthy?"

"We weren't always rich, y'know, explains the not so refined accent. But my dad, he's full of mad ideas, always inventing or rushing off with a new one and finally one of his ideas turned out to be brilliant -- he started a cola company, was a hit, that one and from there he went from strength to strength."

Or at least that was what she was told.

"Cola? Is it good?"

"Um. Now it is," She said and winced, "The first versions tasted like paper."

Clark chuckled. "Do they sell it here? I'd like to try it."

"I don't think so," she said, with a smile, "I'll have mum send me one the next time I call. My dad's expanded to research and development so he's not limited to drinks nowadays."

"What's he trying out now?"

"Oh, he's trying out developing some technologies." And sponsoring a secret government agency.

"Oh? What kind of technology."

"New communication devices and such," She says then looks contrite, "I honestly don't know the rest, it's all very hush-hush."
