Turtle and Canary - Saturday

Jane and Apu had a tremendous row over... Well... Apu "was not" and Jane maintained that he "was too". "Was not" and "Was too" what?

Who knows?

Jane is pretty upset about it.

So she's hitting the candy and the squishies.

Pretty hard

Apu stormed off.

Jaye needed to pick up some stuff before going to do other things in town, so she picks up a few little things like pens and floss or something, and heads to the counter.

Jane is just polishing off a bottle of strawberry quick milk.

"Hi."

"Hi," Jaye says. "Um, is your mom or whoever around to ring me up?"

"... My ma's dead." she said looking at Jaye with big shiny eyes.

"Oh, god. Sorry. Okay, the owner," she continues quickly, hoping to cut off any tears. "How about that? Someone who works here?"

"That's me!" she said brightening up and sliding off the counter to stand behind it to look all official and stuff.

Sadly, if she looks official Jaye probably can't tell because she's quite short.

There's some sounds of sliding around and she hopped up on some box. A large box that had the name of a leading cash register company on the side. It was the perfect hight to let her see over the counter.

Jane reached over and grabbed the toy register.

"I can ring ya up!"

"...Seriously?" Jaye asks. Because in this town, she has to check, but she knows the town isn't exactly teeming with kids.

"Uuuuuh yeah."

"Hold on one second," Jaye says, and leaves her stuff at the counter for a minute. When she returns, she's got a disposable camera and a big thing of bubble wrap.

Jane starts ringing up the stuff on the counter while Jaye is away.

Lizzie jumps up on the counter and helps... Or she just stands there and blinks her tail.

Same thing.

Putting the new purchases up on the counter, Jaye says, "Okay, now I'm ready."

Jane carefully copied the prices on the labels to the toy register.

"I need that much!" she said pointing to the total on the register.

Jaye is... sadly not above counting out less money than what the cash register says. "There you go," she says, handing over the cash.

"Thank you come back later!"

Turtle hurried in after detention, to grab supplies for the party tomorrow, knowing that the store was closed on Sunday (not like she couldn't just come in and get them, but, y'know), and just blinked.

"Uhhh....?"

"Hiii Turtle!" Jane said waving furiously from behind the counter.

"Uh, hi," Turtle looked rather baffled; it was like Lyman's kid in detention all over again. Jane didn't have a kid, too, did she? "...how do you know who I am?"

"How can I not know partner!?"

...Partner? Turtle blinked.

"...Jane?"

"Tuuuuuuurtle?"

"You're all....little."

...At least Turtle knew the booze was safe today. At least, Turtle hoped...

Booze safe, yes. Strawberry milk and squishies?

Eh... She's little and can't hold much.

"Wadda ya talkin' about? I'm a big girl! I can cook and clean and earn a livin' runin' a store!"

Turtle had to chuckle a little at that. She didn't understand why Jane was so little, but, Turtle had been a turtle for a weekend, so it was probably just one of those things again. "And here I thought fourteen was impressive for the same things," she said. "How's business been today, then, partner?"

"Great!" She said holding up the toy cash register.

Ugh, that thing again...And Turtle had a sudden fear that toy money just might be accompanying the toy register, but she really didn't want to find out for sure.

"...what's that you're standing on, Jane?" Turtle looked behind the counter and gasped.

"Ohmigosh!"

"Some box." she said opening the toy register with a cheesy *ting* to reveal real money.

Lizzy is taking this all in stride.
