Empire Records, 3/6 [Open]

Kaylee opened Empire Records today, though she wasn't as cheerful as usual. She was a little sad because this would be the last time she opened the store. She had made the decision last night to return to Serenity, after all.

Of course, she'd be available to help any customer who might need it.

[ooc: like I said in the post last night, if you'd like a chance to interact with Kaylee before she leaves, go for it. or use for any music needs you may have; I may be slow to respond because I am not feeling well, woe.]

River hadn't seen Kaylee in a while, and decided to pay her a visit at work. She opened the door with a smile on her face, which quickly faded as she saw Kaylee. "You're leaving?"

"How did you...oh," Kaylee replied. "Yeah, I am. Serenity needs me."

A sad smile appeared on River's face. Of course Serenity needed Kaylee. "Yes, she does. Falling apart without you. I'll miss you."

Kaylee gave River a small smile. "I'll miss you, too, River."

"Time for Serenity now. And everyone on her." River smiled. "Simon will be happy."

Kaylee grinned. "You think so?"

Returning her grin, River nodded. "I know so."

Someone should tell Kaylee as Simon seemed unable to do it himself.

"Well, that's good to know," Kaylee said. That wasn't one of the reasons she decided to go home. Really.

"Look after him for me?" River asked.

"I will. Definitely," Kaylee promised.

River reached out and gave Kaylee a hug. "And give my regards to all of them."

Kaylee hugger her back. "I will. I'm sure they'd appreciate that."

Letting go, River looked up at Kaylee and smiled. "But I'll see you. Need to go home for a visit soon."

Conner needed more new music. He really did. Well, okay, no he didn't. But he did need a distraction and his player wanted to interact with Kaylee, wah, so after classes he headed down to Empire.

"Hey, Kaylee!"

"Hey Conner!" Kaylee greeted with a wave. "How's that CD you bought a few weeks ago?"

"It was great," Conner said with a grin. "Really catchy. Can't stop listening to it, but I actually just thought I'd come down and say hi today."

Kaylee frowned slightly. "Glad you stopped by. Guess I oughtta tell ya that I'll be headin' home by the end of the week."

Conner wasn't sure he understood her correctly. "But spring break was last week . . ."

"No, I mean, I'm goin' home for good. I'm leavin' Fandom," Kaylee explained sadly.

"What?" Good thing Conner wasn't holding anything, or he'd have dropped it and invoked the 'You break it, you bought it' rule. "Aw, no. Why?"

"Serenity needs me right now," Kaylee replied. "And...I miss it there. But I'll miss here a lot, too."

Conner's jaw dropped, and he looked almost like a lost little boy for a moment.

"Yeah, I get that. Being needed somewhere. But we're gonna miss you here, too," he said, hands shoved into his pockets.

Kaylee smiled sadly. "I'll have to do my best to keep in touch then."

"When do you leave?" asked Conner. "It's not gonna be the same without you being all cheerful all the time."

"End of the week sometime," Kaylee said. "It won't be the same back home without the Fandom weirdness, but it's somethin' I need to do."

"We'll have to hang out sometime before then," Conner replied. "Makes me wish we'd hung out more, but you never really think about people leaving until they're almost gone."

"Oh, I'd like that," Kaylee agreed.

"Me too." Conner sighed and gave her a smile. "It's gonna suck, but I guess we'll have to learn to go on without you."
