Turtle and Canary; Wednesday [ 03/14 ]
Turtle almost didn't want to remove her hand as she opened up the store today with it covering her eyes. She was nervous; she didn't know if she wanted to see what damage the flood had caused. It was what prevented her from coming in earlier that week, as if putting it off would make it disappear.
Surprisingly, though, it wasn't too bad. Not nearly as bad as she imagined. But she had imagined it to be pretty bad.
But, most importantly, the register seemed okay. And, even if it wasn't, it had one heck of a warranty on it.

Mod Apu.
Re: Mod Apu.
He did need to get some direction from Apu as to where exactly he could find the gardening section of the store.
Talk to Turtle.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"So, uh, is this the place to get general stuff? I'm not sure what I'm looking for." She fidgeted.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
She shook her head. "Er, anyway. The thing is? I'm totally bad at gifts. And I need something for someone. Maybe I get a few things, for some people back home, too, now that I'm here? But I don't know what. Like I said, bad at gifts."
Re: Talk to Turtle.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"And I wanted to get something for Yunie, because she's awesome but she's stuck on Besaid and that's depressing, and she totally shouldn't be sad. You know? And something for Lulu because she'd like something unusual and she rocks. And maybe I should get something for Pops but he's lame."
Re: Talk to Turtle.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
She took a (much-needed) breath. "For Lulu, something ominous and magic-y, 'cause she's all dark and powerful but really awesome. And for Pops, I guess something with a lot of gears in it so he can sit and poke at it. He really likes machina, like me. Machines, I mean."
She nodded. "That's, uh. I'm really bad at this whole gift thing."
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"Okay, let's see. We...don't actually have a lot of magicy stuff here? So this Lulu present might be difficult. What else might she like if not something magicy?"
Re: Talk to Turtle.
She stopped for a moment. "Oh, crap. If I'm sending stuff to Pops, do I gotta send something to my stupid brother?"
Rikku was apparently unaware that she was painting "RIP ME OFF" on her forehead in day-glo letters.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"Well," she said thoughtfully, although she wasn't putting thought into it at all, "you don't have to, but it would be rather uncouth if you didn't. What sort of things does your brother like?" The pen was poised and ready.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"What does he like? Being lame." She made a face. "Oh! Wait! Some kind of an English dictionary? He's trying to learn. You guys probably don't have English-to-Al Bhed, but something basic might help him." She rolled her eyes. "He's really bad at it right now."
Re: Talk to Turtle.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"Nothing too much or anything, I just wanted to - something, you know?" She shook her head again. "Sorry, I told you I was bad at this."
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"Okay, I think I got some ideas. Ready?"
Re: Talk to Turtle.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"Jude: I can whip up some coupons for free Squishies, 'cause I know he likes those. Maybe...enough for eight? An impressive number, but not too much if you're worried about going overboard. An' you should throw in some Westing Paper Product napkins. Trust me; it'll be funny."
"Ummm, your Yunie friend, I'm thinking something fun that reminds you of Fandom, so you can sorta share it with her a bit, but she can still enjoy it. I'll leave that to you to personalize a bit more, but I do suggest you include glitter in there."
"Okay, Lulu. We've got some pretty weird lookin' stuffed animals in the toy section to check out, definately. I think we got a Gremlin. I think that especially would be apt."
"Your dad. So many electronics, but I think we just got a shipment of bot-building kits that could be pretty cool. Might want to check out Sparky's Repairs, too, if you're interested in machine stuff." Since Sparky's hooked them up with the SquishyBot, Turtle felt no remorse giving them a little advertisement at the sake of a sale.
"And, for your brother, one or two of the many English language instruction books that will give him excersizes to help improve his skills. And get a notebook and some pens with it, too, so he can practice. And, since getting just books and stuff for a gift is kind of lame, throw in maybe some candy and sweets? From what you said, it sounds like you're definately from a different place, so different things to send him might be really cool for him."
Beaming at her assessment, she awaited Rikku's response excitedly.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"Okay. I like the Squishy idea. I've been meaning to try one, too. I've heard they're awesome. Oh! Hey! Do you have, like, skateboard repair kits or something?"
"Yuna ... hmm. She's awesome and sweet and she kinda saved the world. That makes it hard." She scratched her head. "I like the glitter idea. Maybe I just send her pictures. Oh! Maybe a knickknack of some kind. She likes pretty things."
"The gremlin! That's perfect! Maybe she can even use it to do spells!" She bounced. "And the bot kit, you really have one?! That's awesome!"
"A couple books, totally. So long as they're really easy, he's kinda way at the beginner level. Are there sweets here we wouldn't have?" She thought for a minute. "Yeah, our world isn't anything like this. You have machines everywhere. It's so cool."
"He doesn't need sweets, he should just be happy I'm sending him anything, the jerk. But totally add some sweets on there, because I forgot Wakka anyway and he'll get a kick out of it." She beamed. "This is fun!"
Re: Talk to Turtle.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
She giggled. "You guys really do have everything here! Pops should send me money more often."

Re: Talk to Turtle.
Apu had, at this point, returned with all the things. "Ooh, yay!" Turtle said as she quickly started to ring them up.
The beeping of the register still made her giggle with glee, too.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
Rikku stared at the stack. "Whoa. I hope I've got enough left to mail them out. Should be okay, right?"
Re: Talk to Turtle.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
She reached into her pouch and started plopping what appeared to be randomly-colored unpolished gems on the counter. "I have all kinds of fun stuff. Wait, is this dangerous? I mean, selling them to people."
She shrugged. "Ah well. I've got enough gil anyway, I think. Er, do you take gil, or do I need to get it changed?"
[[totally okay, night!]]

"I get it, it's not a trust thing, it's business, yeah?" She laughed, rolling her eyes. "Rin was selling us weapon upgrades while we were saving the stupid airship he was standing on. Nothing personal, he said. What a guy."
"You sure it's okay to just take the stuff, then? I mean, with signing things, you don't mind?"
Re: Talk to Turtle.
She disappeared into the back room, returning a few moments later with a sheet of printed paper and two sheets of carbon copy paper She slipped them under the initial sheet, and slid it across the counter toward Rikku. It announced simply the situation, with a promise that, once the gil was appraised, Rikku would agree to supply the proper amount to cover her purchases for the day of March 13, 2007, at Turtle & Canary, Fandom Island, Virginia. It even had the approximate time in which the sale was made.
"So, if you could just sign here..."
Re: Talk to Turtle.
She took the pen and signed "Rikku" with a big flourish, then, noticing all the extra space on the line, added, "(of the Al Bhed Tribe)".
"Sorry," she explained. "I've only got one name."
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"There we go. All set."
Re: Talk to Turtle.
She started scooping up items. "Thank you so much! This is gonna rock. I can't wait to send stuff home." She bounced a bit.
Re: Talk to Turtle.
"You're totally welcome, Rikku," she grinned. "You'll have to let me know how everyone likes all their stuff."
