Aereopagitica: Monday 2-5 PM [3-18-07]

Lana came in to work at the store wondering about the new owner and hoping they'd get along.

[OOC: Thread with Millie and Lana locked to them.]

"You must be Lana!" Millie exclaimed. "Hello, welcome, I'm so happy to meet you! I'm Millie and I do hope we'll have a good time working together."

"First, let me just say that I was so pleased to see how well you kept the store up. I wasn't at all sure what I'd be walking into and I was so happy to see that you clearly love books as well as I do," Millie gestured around the shop as she spoke, bracelets clanking.

"I will be making some changes to the inventory of the store - not so much with the used and rare, though of course we'll still have sections for those." She wandered off down one of the aisles as she spoke. "We'll be having a number of books available from other worlds and I can order pretty much anything anyone would like. I'll also be trying to hire some additional people as I think you and I could use some help on that front."

"I'd also like to make tea and cocoa available for our customers, oh and coffee as well, I understand that many people in America drink that. And perhaps a little reading corner where they can be comfortable while they page through books. And I definitely want to change the name of the store." Millie continued on through the store, letting Lana trail after her as she would.

"I thought perhaps some sort of contest? Best name gets a gift certificate or some such?"

"Excellent," Millie said spinning around to face Lana. "Oh, I do like you already even though you are a quiet one, aren't you?"

Without waiting for a response from Lana she went on, "I'll be living in the apartment upstairs, but you needn't worry that I'll bother you too much while you're working. Feel free to swot away on your homework when it's quiet or whatever you choose, you clearly are more than willing to pull your weight around here from what I can tell. Oh yes, and Proudfoot, of course, will be wandering about. She's already claimed the front window as her very own. Don't mind her. Give her a pet now and then and she'll be happy as a clam."

"Are clams happy?" she wondered, then dismissed it, "Well, she is anyway, and Goddess knows, if Proudfoot's happy the rest of us can rest easier."

"Oh Goddess, yes, of course, you wouldn't know!" Millie swept back to the front of the store and pointed out the white cat ensconced in a spot in the sunlight streaming in through the front window. "Proudfoot!" she announced.

"She is, isn't she?" Millie said contentedly, clasping her hands together. "Well, I'll leave you two to get acquainted and go deal with the rest of the new inventory. Gabriel set me up with a computer system to keep track of it, and my goodness, who ever would have thought such a small thing could hold so much information!

"Oh my, are you familiar with these new-fangled things?" Millie asked a little anxiously. "Gabriel said that most of the people here would be, but I do hate to assume..."

"Wonderful!" Millie exclaimed. "And perhaps you can even help me if I get stuck on something. All of this wonderful technology is still quite new to me. I do pick up on things quickly, but even the best of us needs help from time to time, don't they?"

She smiled at Lana warmly. "And don't you worry about the inventory. I assure you I can do it amazingly quickly on my own - as long as you don't mind seeing the books moving through the air on their own or randomly appearing and disappearing. Magic, don't you know. Ever so handy for this sort of thing."

"No worries," Millie said cheerfully. "Well, I'll just be off then. Help yourself to the tea and biscuits if you like, anything in the refrigerator in the back room is up for grabs for you and any other employee we may get. I'll be sure to keep it stocked."

She headed off towards the back room. "Yell if you need me," she called, then popped her head back in the room. "I do think we'll get along just beautifully, Lana. And Proudfoot quite agrees. Ta, then!"

And she was gone.
