The Graveyard: Thursday Evening

It's not that she doesn't like patrolling. It's just that 99.99% of the time there's nothing to slay. This leads to minor frustration and built up tension which in turn leads to massive quantities of junk food being eaten.

And yet here Mel is again. Patrolling. Getting frustrated and feeling tense.

"You know. Just one vampire. One. That's all I want."

She's also talking with herself.

Not a good sign.

Buffy was resigned to there not being any vampires on the island, but with the fight class earlier and the fact that it had been a week since the new people arrived and no one had invaded yet... Surely they were overdue?

One little space vampire?

She headed off in direction of the graveyard, idly throwing her stake in the air like a baton.

Willow knew that Mel was patrolling tonight, so she went out to help.

Tonight Willow's help came in the form of bringing along a bag of chips.

"Someday patrolling in Fandom is going to be more than just snack time," Mel said idly.

"We could have another invasion," Willow said. "Besides the newbies, I mean. You probably shouldn't slay any of those. Other than Cordelia."

Xander's help came in the form of facepalming and saying, "Mel, I will give you a twinkie every time you don't ask the universe to send us more vampires. Just saying."

"I don't say that every time I go on patrol," Mel protested.

Actually she does but she's not going to admit that.

"Just the times when I'm with you?" Xander handed her a twinkie, anyway.

Everyone had told Abigail that Fandom didn't have a vampire problem, but she wanted to check for herself, just to make sure. So, after liberating her bow from the weapons locker, she headed off for the graveyard, figuring that was the best place to start.

Buffy spotted the girl heading definitely the same way she was. She was still too far away to see who it was, but she called out, "Hey! Are you a vampire?"

Abigail stopped in her tracks and turned slowly. "No," she called back. "Are you?"

After realizing that out of the crowd they'd managed to gather, there was only one face he didn't know in some form or other, Xander took stock of Abigail again, putting together the bits he'd overheard. "So you're not a Choseny type slayer, you just work on your own? I'm Xander, by the way - hi."

"Hey, I'm Abigail," she replied. "And no, I don't think fall into the same category as the rest of you. Vampire hunting's kind of the family business. Everything I know, I learned from my dad."

Vi had never patrolled on her own before, but she figured she should start practicing. Stealthily, she crept into the graveyard, gripping her stake tightly.

And blinked at how many people, some of whom looked familiar, were already creeping stealthily around the graveyard. "It's like a vampire doom party."

Mel gave Vi a somewhat tired wave. "Let me guess. You're Vi?"

Because apparently the graveyard attracts slayers and hunters. Not actual vampires.

"Yeah," Vi said slightly startled at being recognized -- but yep, this girl sure had a Faith-Spike-blend vibe. "Are you Mel?"

Willow gave a cheerful wave. "Hi! Care for some chips?"

Willow! It was Willow! Who looked younger and smilier than Vi had ever seen her, which reminded her about the whole alternate-timeline thing.

Buffy had been all frowny about patrol snacks for the Potentials, but if Willow -- any Willow -- said it was okay, it had to be. Vi nodded, eyes big as saucers, and took a few. "Thanks," she said. "I'm Vi, one of many slayers in my world -- or, I guess, this world."

Willow might pick up something expectant in the girl's expression.

Xander, who'd managed to miss that any Vi who happened to get mentioned on the radio was Vi-Vi, blinked and said the obvious. "Vi?"

"Hi," Buffy said cheerfully. "I haven't met you yet, I think!"

"Hey," Abigail said in greeting. "I don't think there are any vampires for us to bring doom to, unfortunately."

"I'm here, I'm here!" Dawn came running up, waving a notebook and pencil, ignoring the fact that she could have been announcing her presence to more people than just the vampire slayers, Xander and Willow, "Don't start not slaying the vampires without me! I want to take notes."

"No vampires," Mel grumped. "Just slayers, hunters, watchers and Willow brought chips."

"Hi! There aren't any around," Vi said, still sounding disappointed. "But I got to meet everyone at once, so that's kind of cool."

"Notes on what?" Xander asked. "How twinkies are a better patrol-snack than chips, because of their silent, non-crunchy nature?"

Abigail gave Dawn an incredulous look. "Notes? Are you a slayer too?"
