The Devil's Nest, Monday Night

It was Monday, that meant Lucifer was behind the bar again tonight.

He could hardly contain his joy.

Nevertheless, there he was, ready to serve customers. Provided that they were of age, of course.

Oh, look. There's Squall, in his usual seat.

"Some of the bubble things," he said, as he put his money on the bar.

(They can come with different kinds of alcohol?)

"I dunno. However what's-her-name made them."

Squall took a sip.

(That's not right.)

He took a larger sip.

(Still good, though.)

"Keep 'em coming."

There was a ninja at the Devil's Nest. This was not unusual. What was unusual was his attitude; he wasn't his usual snarky, smiling self. Instead, Kabuto picked a spot out of the way and put his head down on his crossed arms. He was debating whether or not he was going to try to order anything this time. Probably not. He really wasn't up to that sort of witty banter.

Yeah, definitely unusual.

"Of course not; whatever gave you that idea?" Kabuto said dryly, not looking up. He took off his glasses, folding them carefully and setting them on the bar in front of himself. It was more comfortable that way.

"It's not normal, is it," Kabuto agreed. "I don't feel like fighting. That's all. I think I've had enough of that for a week or so."

Wilson wanted champagne (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/1707198.html?thread=78848190#t78848190). Aziraphale was a pretty well-trained mate.

The result of these two things was that Aziraphale approached the bar, gave Lucifer a somewhat hesitant smile, and asked, "Could I have a bottle of champagne and two glasses, please? And, er...I do promise not to miss work this week."

Aziraphale bowed his head a bit, and nodded. "Quite. I do apologize for that. I haven't...been myself lately."

A moment's pause, and then he added, "I'm glad James has been enjoying his visits with you, though. I imagine it's been a great deal more cheerful for him here than at home, this past week."

And unlike with Wilson, Aziraphale wasn't at all able to see past the Adversary's "public face". Not that he didn't take just a moment to try.

"I think I'm safe in at least assuring you of the first part," he finally said, with a little smile that crinkled the corners of his eyes.

Then, on a sudden whim, Aziraphale did something he'd made a careful point not to do here on the other's turf. He changed the two glasses into three, and held one out to Lucifer.

Loungey and with a pool table. It was more the latter than the former that drew the young doctor's attention as he slipped into the Nest for a bit.

He and the angel had enjoyed a nice quiet dinner after which Aziraphale had mentioned a desire to finish up the last book he'd been reading and Wilson decided to get out from under foot and go play pool.

It kept him off the streets after all.

It hadn't escaped the angel's notice that Wilson been coming home from his visits to the Nest and the park in a rather happier mood the last few times. And a happy Wilson made for a happy Aziraphale, so he'd been quick to encourage those outings.

Tonight, though, Aziraphale found himself less keen on staying home alone than he'd been over the past week, and realized that maybe it was time to start getting out again. After all, there was only so much brooding one could do before one's surroundings needed to undergo a change.

And that was why, after Wilson had been at the pool table for a little while, Aziraphale wandered in the door. Bypassing the bar, he went directly to the lounge, and stood near the table, looking a little sheepish.

"I, er, decided not to stay at home after all."

It had been a hard week, hard in that Wilson had been forced to curb the impulse towards trying to coax Aziraphale out and about. Instead, he'd realized that he'd needed to give the angel time to come out on his own and perhaps a wee bit of incentive in the form of getting out and about himself.

On shot to sink the 8 ball, Wilson looked up with a loving smile when he saw that his evil plan had worked and the angel had surfaced.

"I'm happy to see that," he said softly, straightening up and leaning on the pool cue.

"This means you can go get us a bottle of champagne and a couple of glasses, while I rack the balls...I'll even give you the break."

Probably Aziraphale should have figured out that Wilson had an evil plan, but the very regular wing preening had kept him a bit distracted. In fact, the angel had dropped off into a rare nap just that afternoon after a nice wing-preen, which might have accounted for his somewhat-more-mellow-than-usual mood.

"Things must be getting dull indeed, if my leaving the house is worth celebrating with champagne," he replied softly, but with a slightly guilty expression. He brushed a kiss to Wilson's cheek, and then obediently headed for the bar.

Wilson smiled softly, following Phale's movements towards the bar with his eyes and then, with a slight nod to himself he set his cue to the side and began to gather up the pool balls.
