Seely was holding Aravis's hand as they walked up to the theatre, and was totally grinning like a doof. "And here we are," he said.

Aravis stared at the theater, totally also grinning but not at all dorkily. At all. Really. "It's so bright."

"It's darker once you're in the actual theatre," Seely said. "Helps you see the movie better."

Aravis blinked. "But if it's dark, wouldn't that hinder your vision?"

"Yeah, which is the point," Seely said. "Trust me, you'll understand better seeing, than from hearing me talk about it."

He gestured at the concessions stand. "You want popcorn?"

"What is that?" Aravis asked, peering at the...popping things.

"Dried corn. They heat it and it goes all soft and fluffy, and they put melted butter on it." Seely gestured as he explained. "It's delicious."

Aravis tilted her head. "That's remarkable. I've never had food that makes noise like that. We should absolutely have some."

Seely grinned. "I'll get us some," he said. "You want a soda with that too?"

"A what?"

"Drink, it's sweet and fizzy," Seely replied without skipping a beat. "Good for when the salt on the popcorn makes you thirsty."

"Oh! Yes, please, if you are having one as well," Aravis decided.

"Great," Seely grinned. "I'll be right back."

Seely went to the concessions stand, and got a large popcorn and a couple of sodas, and since it wasn't a proper movie going experience without candy, also grabbed some Milk Duds, and jujubes, and...let's just say it's a good thing Seely both lead an active lifestyle and was only a sometimes movie-goer.

Aravis stared. "You got other things."

"Only a few," Seely protested. "We got heaps more when we went with my folks."

Why yes, the appetite was inherited, why do you ask?

"I don't even know what those things are," Aravis laughed. "Can I help to carry anything?"

"That just means you'll have to try all of them." Seely smiled and handed her the popcorn and one of the sodas, then gestured at the door to the theatre. "Ladies first."

Aravis smiled and bumped the door open with her hip. "What would be ideal seating?"

"Middle of the row," Seely said. "Towards the back of the theatre so you can see the whole screen."

He was so totally counting seats to figure out the best ones.

"...are you counting?"

"It's a process."

"It's picking seats," she said skeptically.

"It's also your first time," Seely said. "I want it to be, okay, I doubt we'll get perfect, but special."

"There's a sweet spot, you just need to know where to find it."

And that made her smile widen.

"By all means, then, take your time."

"I intend to," Seely said, grinning. "You can't rush something like this."

Eventually he pointed at a pair of seats. "Those two."

John came in alone to watch the movie. He wanted some old fashioned celluloid entertainment. He had popcorn and everything.
