Caritas, Saturday Night 5/26

After finally getting checked out of the clinic, Phoebe had stopped in to open Caritas for Ellen as she had promised to do.

The zombies were doing their thing and Tino was behind the bar.

"You should be resting," he grumped.

"Promised Ellen I'd cover for her."

"You sit and you do nothing," he warned her. "I'm not having your boyfriends try to kill me because you get hurt."

It was quite possible that she wouldn't be allowed to stay very long.

Kenpachi came in for a drink, and was giving Tino the evil eye and the crazy sneer the whole time. "Where's the woman that was here last week?....I need teckeela......No...No....The bottle....No, I don't need a glass."

Mary is happy to get out of the hotel for a night, even if she's only drinking club soda. Oh well, at least she gets to wear something that definitely didn't come from the rummage sale (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/thena8572/vegas/That_Dress.jpg).

Kenpachi gave an idle glance toward the woman at the bar as he sucked down more tequila from the bottle in his massive hands. Yeah. He would have her sliced to pieces in a matter of seconds, no doubt.

Mary tried to think of way of asking, "Come here often?" without it sounding like a line.

In the end, she just gave her warmest smile and asked, "Do you come here often?"

Kenpachi grunted, sneering. Here he thought being a giant mass of a man with scars and a very impractical hairstyle, swigging tequila like water, would keep people away from associating with him, but apparantly not. Maybe he needed more bloodstains on his robes.

"No." His answer was simple, curt, annoyed.

Mary has spend years as a casino host. She can schmooze with just about guest.

"This is my first time here!" she said enthusiastically. "I just arrived in Fandom a few days ago. How long have you lived here?"

[identity profile] namelessblade.livejournal.com 2007-05-27 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
My, wasn't she...enthusiastic. Kenpachi kept his eye forward and his swigs deep. He hoped he never got used to that burn in his throat. "I do not live here," he answered her gruffly. "This is hopefully a very, very temporary arrangement."

Mary gave him her sweetest smile. "So you're just passing through? That's nice," she said.

That sure as hell would be nice. Kenpachi didn't respond, just finished off the bottle of tequila with a satisfied, gasping sort of sound before inspecting the bottle. This place was turning him into a drunkard. Couldn't fight. Seemed the only other thing to do. He contemplated getting another. His head wasn't feeling anything, but his gigai probably was...

Mary recognized that look. That was probably her before the night that everything changed and she quit drinking.

"My name's Mary Connell. I work over at the hotel," she said. "If you ever need to talk to someone..."

Had he been dead so long that he'd forgotten what mortals were like? Kenpachi's eye shifted slowly from the bottle to the woman. Were they always like this? "What in my actions have indicated that I would want to talk?" he asked, because he was pretty sure that the whole silence thing? Suggested otherwise. He flashed her a biting, sneering sort of grin, filled with sarcasm, teeth grated together as if to prevent him from pulling out his blade.

And Mary says nothing. She knows you can't help someone until they actually want to be helped.

That was more like it. Snorting slightly, Kenpachi's grin grew a little as he turned away from Mary with a tinkling of the bells in his hair. "Get me another one," he said, sliding the empty bottle toward Tino. "I'll take it in a glass this time."

He didn't have Yachiru to carry him home this time, after all.

As long as Phoebe was here, Anders was here, keeping an eye on her. Not that he was a hundred percent himself, so there might have been a little bit of hypocrisy mixed in with his concern. But it was well-intentioned, at least. Right?

Bel was there, too, of course, keeping an eye on them both. Over-protective? You don't say.

Anders, for one, was perfectly happy to be leant against. Which didn't mean that he wasn't keeping a close eye on her, since he was.

"I listened to the radio last night," Bel said. "I guess they got the guy who did this."

"One less thing to worry about," Anders remarked. "Thank frak, too."

"Wish I'd been able to get my hands on him," Bel muttered darkly.

"And not allowed to shower for a week and a half."

Anders might be a little bitter and hung up on that particular detail.
demonbelthazor: (Shy grin)

Bel snickered. "Could give you a sponge bath," he said.

"You read my mind," Anders drawled, grinning. The thought of Bel playing nursemaid, though he'd never say it out loud, was really damned cute.
demonbelthazor: (Contemplative)

Fortunately for Anders, Bel didn't know what he was thinking. "Just don't get used to it," he said gruffly.
