JGOB, Sunday afternoon

Sometime during the afternoon, Karal and Jaina left the cabin to see what JGOB was all about. Jaina wasn't going to question the name, because she figured it was probably meant to be fun, or whimsical, and if there was any kind of baked goods worshipping going on, they might have to find somewhere else to go.

"It smells good," she said once they'd stepped inside. "That's a good sign."

[For Karal, but JGOB is open for your bakery (and baked goods worshipping) needs.]

Karal was almost certain that there was no actual God of Biscuits, but even so it did give him a twinge to walk into the bakery. The incredible smell, however, went a long way towards dispelling any worries. "I believe it is an excellent sign," he said, smiling brightly. "If their goods taste anywhere near as pleasant as they smell, my atonement should be assured."

[ooc: and la, I go to work - AFK about an hour.]

"I'll be the judge of that," Jaina teased, and stepped up to the counter to look inside the case. "What looks good?"

Karal had never seen such a variety of food in one place. Actually, he couldn't remember ever being in a bakery before. "Everything, but I think that might be too much." He followed, standing next to her, looking thoughtful. "Perhaps we should get one each of a number of things and share?"

"And if there's something one of us doesn't like, we can push it off on the other," she said. "Sounds like a plan. Should we just pick some things at random?"

"So my atonement is going to involve eating things that you don't like?" he asked with a small laugh, nodding in agreement. "I think that actually sounds like fun, although we do need one of those." He pointed at a ridiculously fluffy looking tart, piled high with strawberries and whipped cream. "And two spoons, if we're to avoid wearing large portions of it."

"Are you sure that's legal to sell here?" she asked, peering at it. She didn't even know what it was, just that it looked good. "If there's anything else you want, let me know before I just start pointing to things."

"I have no idea," he replied. "It almost looks as if it should be illegal." It also looked very, very tasty. "Point to things, by all means. This is for you, after all, so anything you want is what we should have, and as this is my atonement," he gave her a quick smile, "I will take responsibility for paying."

"Very generous of you," she said, and once she'd gotten the clerk's attention, she pointed to some rich-looking brownie creation. "It's necessary," she explained.

"I have some understanding of the importance of chocolate, so yes, I think it is. And maybe one of those?" He indicated a - well, he had no idea what it was, but it looked very chocolaty - slice thing. "Just promise you will not throw it at me?"

"I promise," she said. "You really think this is going to end in pastry-flinging?"

"No," he replied lightly. "But chocolate seems to be flung at me on a semi-regular basis, so I thought it best to make sure."

She had to take a moment to see if he was seriously. "Really? Why?"

Trying to keep a straight face was difficult, but he made the effort. "Gavin," he explained mournfully, though the corner of his mouth was pulling up into a smile. "He feels it's his duty or somesuch to fling chocolate bars at me."

"I can guarantee you it isn't a cultural thing," she said. "What do you do with the chocolate afterwards?"

"So it is just a Gavin specific thing, then?" He grinned. "This is less of a surprise that I would have thought. It's only happened twice thus far," he admitted. "The first time I ate it, the second I returned it. But I think I will keep them from now on."

"Good," Jaina said as the clerk got their things together. "If he's going to give something to you, then it's yours to keep. It's common courtesy."

Karal nodded. "I'll share them with you, if you like," he offered, pulling out the pouch which Altra had delivered and puzzling over the paper. "I've no idea what these are worth." He pulled several out and set them on the counter, because even if he didn't know, the clerk would. "Money is coin and not paper back home."

"I'm not much help there. We use credits. They look nothing like this," she said, peering at the paper. "Thank you for this, by the way."

The clerk was apparently used to people who had no idea about the money, because she slid a tray across the counter and deftly snagged two of the notes, handing back some coins with a smile. "Thank you," Karal told her gratefully, placing the money back in the pouch and picking up the tray.

"Thanks are not necessary," he said, smiling like he took girls out for baked goods all the time and not as if this was absolutely the very first. "It was well thought, and kind of you to let me make amends. Where would you care to sit?"

Jaina took a couple of the plates handed off by the clerk and nodded towards a free window table. "How's that? Any objection to windows?"

"None at all!" He led the way to the table, setting the tray down and waiting for Jaina to select a chair. "It will let us keep a watch for any sudden flying chocolate."

[ooc: internet's faltering, woe! It was gone, now it's back, it may go again.]

"It's all about the strategy," she said seriously, taking a seat before taking a spoon. "I'm not even sure where to start."

Karal sat across from her, carefully arranging his robes as he did so, and claimed a spoon of his own. "I believe you're right. And I think," he tentatively scoped a small bit of strawberry and cream from the tart, "I think this looks like a reasonable place."

"You might be right," she said, using her own spoon to get enough of it. She might have been working slow enough that she'd have to see his reaction to trying it first, though.

Which was probably just as well, as it was quite a sight. Karal's eyes got wide, and then closed as he made a small noise of pleased surprise. "Glory," he said when he'd swallowed. "Perhaps it is illegal!"
