Caritas - Friday evening [Open]

GOB decided to be daring tonight.

First he dared the band to switch instruments. Then he dared Tino to wear a funny hat all night. Then he dared ZOmbie Yoko to wear some perfume to cover up the smell of rotting flesh. And finally, GOB dared God to tapdance.

He was going to be waiting on that one a while.

[OOC: Sinus isses have me rather out of it at the moment. I'm around but may be really slow.]

This wasn't quite what Karal had expected. It was a lot bigger than The Compass Rose, for a start. He picked his way hesitantly across the floor to the bar and greeted the man behind the counter, who smirked at him.

Karal turned to Gavin. "This isn't like the tavern I used to go to. What do you think we should we have?"

"I have no idea what anything is," Gavin admitted. "Um, something that sounds the least dangerous?"

There were a lot of bottles behind the bar, most filled with colours Karal in no way associated with anything anyone should consume. "Yes, I think that's very smart. Ale, maybe?" he suggested. "That is usually safe."

"All right," he said, nodding. "Two glasses of ale," Gavin said to Tino. Tino filled two glasses and sat them in front of Karal and Gavin.

"I guess...we drink?"

"That is the usual practice," he said with a small grin and picked up one of the glasses, taking a cautious sip. "It is very good!"

"Is it cold?" Gavin asked, not waiting for an answer before taking a sip himself. It wasn't bad, didn't taste like the inside of a boot and didn't remind him of sand. All pluses in his book.

"Not too cold, colder than it was at home, though." Not surprising, given the lack of refrigeration in his world. "And not as bitter." It was also rather stronger than what he was used to, but he hadn't worked that out yet.

"Yeah, ours was warm back home," Gavin said and downed some more of the ale. "I haven't had anything this cold in awhile. Ours runs about the same on the bitter side."

"They must have a different way of brewing it," he said, following Gavin's lead with the downing. "One more thing that is strange. Though not bad strange! Good strange, if there is such a thing." He drank some more. "We should try something that is just from here."

"Right." Before picking something else out, Gavin finished the ale in several long swallows. Probably not the best move as it left him making a face but he didn't want it to get warm.

"That one looks kinda red. Wanna try that?" he asked, pointing to a bottle.

Karal was a bit surprised, but he didn't want to be left behind, so he finished his ale, grimacing a little because he wasn't used to drinking it so quickly. "I don't think things you drink are supposed to be that colour, but this is a new place, so new things should be tried," he said, leaning on the bar. "I think that one would be perfect."

Gavin pointed out the bottle to Tino. Tino looked at them warily but set two small glasses in front of them and filled with the red liquid.

"Drink this too, right?"

"I guess so," he said dubiously, poking a finger into the liquid and tasting it. "It's very sweet. Everything here is sweeter than back home."

He was nothing if not game, though, so he picked the glass up...and waited for Gavin to drink his first.

"Wimp," he teased and tossed back the drink like he'd seen people do back home.

Bad move. It burned going down his throat and he started coughing.

Karal made a face at him, then grinned as he started to cough. "Say rather I am wise," he said, patting Gavin on the back. Then he took a deep breath and did what Gavin had done - assuming this was how one was supposed to do it - but quite a bit slower, and his eyes got very wide. "Glory!"

Gavin was still trying to catch his own breath when he saw Karal's eyes widen.

"Good, huh?" It wasn't, really, but Gavin didn't want to admit that. "Should we go again?"

Again?. Karal set the glass down, and looked at Gavin, very unsure and a little fuzzy, then nodded. Suddenly 'again' sounded like a wonderful idea.

"Yes, but not that red concoction," he said decisively, studying the array of colours. "That one." He pointed at at bottle full of bright yellow and Tino raised an eyebrow, but poured out two glasses.

"You first this time," Gavin said, smiling widely.

Karal laughed, because that was quite funny for some reason. "Wimp or wisdom?" he asked, sniffing the glass before drinking it down, making a face because it was sticky and very sweet, but it was smooth and pleasantly warm.

He coughed a few times afterwards, and set the glass down very, very carefully.

Gavin eyed the drink and then swung his head toward Karal. He drank this one slowly and that might've been a mistake as well because now he felt it and it made him squirm on his stool.

He gagged a few times, coughed and set the glass down. "That one was thick."

"Mmmmm." It was a general noise of agreement and he pushed the glass away. It clinked against some of the other glasses. "And yellow. Red and yellow combined are what makes orange. Should we have an orange one now?"

Sinuses suck.
