Turtle & Canary; Sunday [06/03 ]

The reactions to her hair so far hadn't been...bad at all, really. In fact, Turtle found most of them kind of encouraging. It looked nice, they said. Grown-up. She liked that one best. Even Annette seemed to have been nice about it and it did feel really cool when she turned her head and it swished across her face. She still got caught up in the occasional moment of lose and regret for the braid, but, still she was in a brighter mood than she had at the store today. She did, however, steer clear of the hair care section for today.

Today's Squishy Flavors: Sushi, Vanilla, Red.

And Apu almost didn't recognize her at first, until she kicked him when he tried to sell her stuff.

She's at the counter for most of the day, flipping through a motocross magazine.

Sokka walked in to Turtle & Canary, hoping Turtle was there... and she was! Good!

He walked up to her and laid a few twenties on the counter. "I've got more money to invest!" he said proudly.

As an afterthought, he scratched his chin and added, "... there's something different about you today..."

Turtle's eyes narrowed at Sokka slightly, torn between wanting to kick him for what she interpreted as a smarmy remark about the lack of braid and the sheer glee from being represented with money.

The money won. As usual. The glare turned into a smirk as she counted up the bills. "Well, you know, Sokka, it's a seller's market right now; but what you do have has been doing well, so I might be able to bump it up a few shares with this. Just a few, though, unless you want to hold it out until things settle back down into a buyer's market."

"Uh-huh. Yeah. Sure. Just... take the money and make me more, okay? I don't need to know how it works." Sokka shrugged. "So long as you're not cheating me, because if you are, you'll be sorry."

Then he stared at her some more. "No, really... Something's different about you, isn't it? I can't figure out what."

"Sokka!" Turtle cried out, hand slapping down on the counter and giving him a look like nearly begged for him to stop making fun of her. The hand then moved up with her other one, over her head and then against her neck, as if holding the shortened hair down, as if that would mean he wouldn't see it anymore. This wasn't fair! She didn't want to start crying about it again!

"What? What'd I do?" Sokka asked, confused. "Sorry?"

"I know it's all gone! Everyone knows it's all gone! You don't need to be a jerk and be all, 'gee, Turtle, you look different, it's almost as if someone cut off your braid!'"

...So much for the not getting worked up about it thing.

Sokka boggled at her. "Someone CUT OFF YOUR BRAID!?!?!?!??!" He leaned over to look. WOW, yeah, it was gone.

"That's AWFUL!!! Who would DO something like that?!?! Did you hurt them?"

Turtle's head went immediately down against the countertop. She banged it a few times. How the heck could he not have noticed when he came in?

Her head remained down as she spoke, words muffled by the countertop. "I don't know who did it," she said, then lifted her head, eyes narrowed with conviction. "But, mark my words, I'll find out. They left behind evidence. I'm taking it into the sheriff tomorrow so he can fingerprint it. Then I'll know who did it and they'll be soooo sorry for messing with Turtle Wexler like that..."

Sokka turned bright red when she started headdesking. "I am NOT stupid!" he protested. "I have VERY keen powers of observation!"

He gave her a tentative pat on the shoulder. "When you find out who it was, if you need help making them suffer, just let me know."

Turtle sighed. "Will do," she said, nose wrinkling before she took a moment to sniff back the urge to cry. "Those braid-cutters are gonna regret ever having being born. Not only my wrath, but I've got Mister Deadpool on my side, too, and with you, maybe we'll amass a whole army..."

"DEADPOOL's on your side, too?" Sokka suddenly felt very sorry for the poor jerks. "You don't need an army if you've got him."

Turtle couldn't help a smirk with that. "That's kinda what I figured, but I felt bad about telling you that you weren't needed."

Charlie came in to get a few more notebooks, and paused when she got to the counter. "Wow, your hair looks cute, Turtle. I like!"

Well, it wasn't like she expected people not to notice. In fact, quite the opposite but the fact that Sokka hadn't had her optimistic.

"Uhhh, thanks, Charlie...." Her eyes decidedly shifted away.

"Cool. What made you decide to cut it?" Charlie asked over her shoulder, going over to the refridgeration case and grabbing a six-pack of Diet Coke. "Did the stylist talk you into it? She did a good job."

"Oh, well, y'know..." Turtle shifted a little as she shrugged her shoulder, tucked a loose strand behind her ear. "Time for a change, I...I guess...."

Noticing the nervousness, Charlie assured her, "And it does look cool, really," as she returned to the counter. "Really sophisticated. I liked your braid, too, but this is sharp."

Turtle was eying Liz, wondering if she could be programmed to be a crime dog to help sniff out the culprit. Sure, things had turned out okay, but she still wanted revenge against whoever did this...

I need a ninja warrior course in my back yard.
