Caritas - Monday evening (Open)

Emma was busy composing a Very Important Letter. From time to time she asked Tino for an opinion, and every time she proceeded to completely ignore said opinion. This letter was going to be perfect, oh yes. And then Scott would come and drag her back to the mansion, as he should.

Caritas is open!

Kenpachi's there at Caritas to drink again. Shut up, he doesn't have a problem. Okay, maybe he does but this problem is a lot healthier than his last vice. For other people, at any rate....

Tonight, Yuuko both wanted to go out and, of course, drink. Caritas it was, then, and when she spotted Kenpachi, she took a spot right next to him at the bar. "Fancy seeing you here, Zaraki-taichou."

Kenpachi looked over at Yuuko beside him. "Surprised I haven't been seeing you here, little witch," he answered, taking a swig from his now-habitual bottle of tequila.

"You are now, aren't you?" she chuckled.

"Then again..." Kenpachi said after a moment with a grin. "What? Did your supplies run out and you needed an emergency pick-me-up?"

That's what he needed to do. Buy some of this and take it home. Red couldn't be happy with him drinking all his beer, and the beer was like water, anyway.

"As if I'd allow that to happen!" Yuuko said in a faux surprised tone. "Can't a woman go out for a little while?"

"You picked a good night," Kenpachi commented. "My luck had it so that the students were having some sort of party here last time. Good and dead tonight."

He liked things dead, after all.

"Aww, and I missed it?" Yuuko pouted a little. "There's nothing better than having a blast and drinking!"

"I can think of something."

He'd even give Yuuko three whole chances to guess what it is. If, you know, the psychotic, blood hungry grin wasn't enough of a hint.

Yuuko laughed. "I know you can. You shinigami are an odd kind."

"And witches aren't?" Kenpachi asked. "It's actually in our nature to deal with these sorts of things. When you mortals get involved in them..."

Hell, he couldn't even remember being mortal...

"I wouldn't necessarily group myself with the rest of 'those mortals'," Yuuko commented.

"Of course not," Kenpachi grinned a little, somewhat sardonically, as he tilted his bottle Yuuko's way in a sort of mild toast before taking a swig. Probably just as he wouldn't exactly group himself with 'those other Shinigami.'

Yuuko lifted a bottle of beer received from Tino and tapped it against Kenpachi's. "So," she began, took her own swig, then continued, "How have your classes been going?"

"With the exception of a slight...schedualing error," Kenpachi scowled a little, "they're not that bad. I underestimated those students. Still wouldn't stand a chance if I were actually able to do as I wanted with them, but they're not...entirely hopeless."

"No, I wouldn't say they all are," Yuuko replied. "Teach them well and perhaps they'll be able to stand a chance against you someday."

"That would be the idea," Kenpachi muttered. "Hopefully, though, I won't be here long enough for that to happen."

"What reason were you sent here for?" Yuuko asked. She didn't expect him to answer that one though, if not its entirety.

Kenpachi didn't plan on answering it at all. Unless Yuuko could translate the gulping down of more tequila and the gritting of teeth in an expression of pained pleasure at the burn into an answer.

"Makes sense," Yuuko said. "It's obvious it wasn't willingly."

"The only Shinigami who actually willingly choose to be forced into a fake body and made to live among mortals," Kenpachi responded, "are those who still remember what it's like to be mortals."

Steve limped into the bar, sat down, and said, "Beer, please. Something domestic." Then he realized who the bartender was. "Emma? You work in a bar?"

"Hello, Steve." Emma looked up from her letter. "It is my summer job, yes. I felt it was time to take a little break from teaching."

Steve looked around, and a smile slowly spread across his face, as if he were discovering some wonderful joke. "You work," he said carefully, "in a karaoke bar."

Relax, have fun (but not too much fun).

I have an exam tomorrow, so will probably go to bed early.
