Turtle & Canary; Wednesday [ 06/13 ]

There was a chessboard set up on the counter today, with a sign that read "Make a move or two or even more if you'd like. Check me, get a free Squishy! Checkmate earns you 10% off your purchase!" Mostly, this was because Turtle was bored and wanted to play chess, but SquishyBot had a habit of lasering the pieces, Liz just ate them, and Apu...well, she tried to teach Apu, and that didn't end up well.

The glittery "Help Wanted" sign was still very well in tact in the window.

Today's Squishy Flavors: Red, White, Black.

Turtle & Canary is open!

Mary stopped in with her shopping list. "Good morning," she said. "I'm looking for notepads and pens. I seem to be going through a lot of them."

This could be dangerous, as Mary had a weakness for multicolor pens. "Thanks," she said. "Now, if only you carried paint and 500 thread count sheets, this could be one-stop shopping," she added with a giggle.

"Oh, awesome! That will save me a trip to the mainland," said Mary, excited. "I should warn you, though. I'm looking to remodel the Arms Hotel and I'm going to need a lot of paint."

And Mary, who was a fairly savvy businesswoman herself, was grinning. She remembered what it was like to land a big client.

"I'll do just that once I see how many guest rooms will need a face-lift," said Mary. "Let me leave you my business card. I'm Mary Connell, by the way. I'm the new manager at the hotel. For now, I'll just take the pens, paper and a couple cans of ivory paint. I might as well test it out on my own suite first," she added with a smile.

"We should have a chamber of commerce," suggested Mary. "Unless there's already one that I haven't heard about."

"Oh, do you work at the school?" asked Mary. She'd met a couple of teachers in the last week.

Charlie came by in the afternoon, looking hopeful. "So, stars? Stickers? Maybe tinsel?"

"Yes!" Charlie picked up a little box of blue foil stars, and one of gold. "Oh, hey, we can do his door in the school colors!"

"We still have to find out which room he's in." Charlie grinned, and then grabbed another little box of shiny foil stickers, this one of palm-size letters. "Or we could just knock on all the doors to check?"

Charlie paused a moment, appreciating that mental image. "We could get him one if he doesn't?"

"Does Turtle and Canary carry kilts?" Charlie blinked. "Say that five times fast."

"Awesome!" Charlie cheered, then said, "Should we hang a kilt on his doorknob?"
