Turtle & Canary; Thursday [06/14 ]

"Ohhhh, maaaaan..."

Turtle grinned wickedly as she bit her lip, looking at the tower of candy bars in front of her. Her focus and concentration had built it up pretty high and she tentatively held up another one. Carefully, she moved her hand toward the tower of delicately balanced treats, and set the next on on the uncertain construction. She drew her hand away; she let out her held breath. And the tower collapsed onto the counter, spilling concoctions of chocolate and nougat everywhere.

"Oh, no!" she giggled. "It collapsed again. Know what that means..."

She picked up one of the candybars, paid for it (with her employee discount in tact, of course), and ate it. Then started again.

The glittery "Help Wanted" sign was out, of course.

Today's Squishy Flavors: Twix, Snickers, Red.

John came in toward the end of Turtle's shift, he hoped. It was ice cream time! "Hey, Turtle!"

"John! Hey!" Turtle glanced from John to her latest tower, then back again. "Don't. Breathe." Smirking, tongue slightly sticking out in concentration, she returned to trying to settle a pack of Reese's Peanut Butter Cup on the very volatile top. After securing it, she hoped, she slowly drew her hand away...

...Ha! It stayed! She beamed over at John. "I've gotten really good," she announced proudly.

"That is one impressive chocolate peanut butter tower," he said, smiling.

"Oh, it's not all Reese's," Turtle told him pointedly. "There's some Charleston Chews and some Mars bars and, uhhh, I think some of those ones with just the peanuts and caramel in there, too."

Obviously John should pay better attention to the types of candy on the counter. "It's still cool. How long did it take you to build?"

"This one?" Turtle asked. "Just, umm...." She glanced at the clock. "'Bout half an hour. Been making various ones all day, though."

"Got bored at work?" he asked.

"Yup," Turtle snorted a little. "Probably no surprise at all, but the hours just drag by when you've got ice cream to look forward to afterwards." A wicked grin surfaced. "Speaking of which..."

"I'm totally ready for some ice cream. When can you get out of here?" he grinned back.

"Now is good," Turtle smirked and, with a sweep of her arm, knocked the tower down. "Hey, Apu! Clean up on front counter! Mwa ha ha." She scrambled over the counter, not nearly as gracefully as she originally intended, hopping down to stand next to John and giving him a smile. As Apu came around she told him she was heading out for the day. "Close up, yeah?"

John laughed, "Not very fond of Apu, are we?"

"Psh, Apu's awesome. He actually likes stuff like that. Feels it gives him meaning to his tired existence of having to constantly answer to a fifteen year old."

"It must be nice to be the boss at fifteen," John remarked.

"Most of the time," Turtle admitted with a grin. "It's a lot of work, but, y'know...I get to say, 'yes, I own half a business. What's that? Oh, no, I'm only fifteen.' Which is just awesome."

Especially if Turtle isn't around. And doing things like, y'know, getting ice cream. Because eating candy bars all day and following up with ice cream was a great idea.

*yawn* m'still sleeeeepy...

You were quite sleepy given the "Talk to Tutle" header. *giggles*

Nice. In my defense, I've been having trouble with this new keyboard, anyway, and when I posted this, I had absolutely no coffee in my system.
