The Perk, Saturday Evening -- Sharpay and Ryan Evans Encore Performance

Coffee houses are a staple of the musical theatre. Especially for up-and-coming performers who haven't yet had their big break, which, of course, Sharpay expected any day now, seriously.

There were microphones and speakers set up, and an area off to the side that was screened off to serve as a dressing room and for quick costume changes. Ryan and Sharpay were just about ready for their set, and were hoping to have lots of adoring fans attend their performance.

(OOC: They're still around after the music festival, ready to wow you all with their stunning renditions of showtunes. Also open for your regular Perk-ly needs. Please wait for OCD is up! Have at it, peoplecakes!)

The Perk

Even with the performance, the Perk is open for all your Perk-ly needs. You coffee addicts, you.

Charlie had flipped the sign on Groovy Tunes for a few minutes, then headed to the Perk for a mocha to wake her up.

After getting her coffee, she decided to stay and listen to the music for a little while.

The Audience

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Feel free to mingle and talk during the performance; this is a coffee house type thing, not a concert. It's expected.

Yitzhak had come to the Perk fully intending to make the barista's life miserable, but the stage setup had his attention from the second he walked in. He contented himself with throwing spitballs at the back of the barista's head while the hapless guy made Yitzhak's drink (ordering that took about fifteen minutes, as Yitzhak knew damn well the barista wasn't fluent in Glare-and-Gesture), then stalked over to sit in a table nearest the stage.

Re: The Audience

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Charlie waved at Yitzhak, knowing better than to verbally greet him, but did smile as she looked for a table. She ended up at one fairly near his.

Re: The Audience

[identity profile] queen-of-zagreb.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yitzhak raised his drink -- which just happened to be a five-shot cinnamon mocha, 1% milk, extra hot, no whip, double chocolate syrup, because watching the barista try and get it right without verbal instructions had been beautiful vengeance -- at her, impassively.

She worked at the music store. He liked the music store. No use in antagonizing her, was there?

Re: The Audience

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Charlie saluted him with her own mocha, and grinned to herself, remembering that she had to work the Silent Guy into more of her stories.

Good thing Yitzhak didn't know about that -- he'd be demanding royalties, if he did.

In a silent, unshaven, glowery sort of way.

The Performance

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Ryan and Sharpay are totally rocking the stage. In a musical-theatre kind of way.

Re: The Performance - Bop to the Top

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ryan and Sharpay came out on to the stage to a Latin beat, ready for their first song.

Mucho gusto
Hay que fabulosa
Ay ay ay
Ariba
Quieres bailar
Mirame

I believe in dreamin'
Shootin' for the stars

Baby to be number one
You've got to raise the bar

Kickin' and a scratchin'
Grindin' out my best

Anything it takes
To climb the ladder of success

Work our tails off every day
Gotta bump the competition
Blow them all away

Re: The Performance - What I've Been Looking For

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, everyone!" Ryan said to the crowd. "I'm Ryan Evans, and this is my sister Sharpay, and we're here to give you a little performance tonight!"

Sharpay stepped forward. "Our first number was, like the song we're about to sing, written by our friend Kelsi Nielsen. It's called Bop to the Top, and right now we're going to sing another song from the same show, called What I've Been Looking For."

[Ryan:]
It's hard to believe
That I couldn't see

[Together:]
You were always there beside me
Thought I was alone
With no one to hold
But you were always right beside me

[Sharpay:]
This feelings like no other

[Together:]
I want you to know
I've never had someone that knows me like you do
the way you do
I've never had someone as good for me as you
no one like you so lonely before i finally found
what I've been looking for

Re: The Performance - The Song That Goes Like This

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Our next song," said Sharpay, "is from one of my newest favorite musical, Kingdom of Luncheon Meat. It's called The Song That Goes Like This."

Once in every show
There comes a song like this
It starts off soft and low
And ends up with a kiss
Oh where is the song
That goes like this?
Where is it? Where? Where?

A sentimental song
That casts a magic spell
They all will hum along
We'll overact like hell
For this is the song that goes like this
Yes it is! Yes it is!

Charlie ended up facepalming at this one. Then giggling and applauding. Because it was silly, but you needed chops to be able to sing it.

Re: The Performance - When You Got It, Flaunt It

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Ryan stepped forward again as Sharpay dashed off for a costume change, one that would be familiar to anyone who was at the festival the day before. "Next, from The Show Financers, Sharpay is going to sing When You Got It, Flaunt It."

Ven you got it, flaunt it
Step right up and strut your stuff
People tell you modesty's a wirtue
But in the theatre modesty can hurt you
Ven you got it, flaunt it
Show your assets, let them know you're proud
Your goodies you must push
Stick out your chest, shake your tush
Ven you got it, shout it out loud

Re: The Performance - Purpose

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"And now," said Sharpay, "I'm going to step aside as Ryan sings the song Purpose, from Boulevard Z."

PURPOSE,
IT'S THAT LITTLE FLAME
THAT LIGHTS A FIRE
UNDER YOUR ASS.
PURPOSE,
IT KEEPS YOU GOING STRONG
LIKE A CAR WITH A FULL
TANK OF GAS.
EVERYONE ELSE HAS
A PURPOSE
SO WHAT'S MINE?
Oh, look! Here's a penny!
It's from the year I was born!
IT'S A SIGN!

Re: The Performance - Purpose

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, this is pretty amusing too. Charlie snickered and applauded for this one, and then decided to talk to the performers on the break.

Re: The Performance - Stud and Babe

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you all for listening so far," Ryan said. "Our next number is from the show with the ridiculously long title, I'm Fond of You, You're Exactly What I'm Looking For, Now Be Something Different."

Sharpay smiled. "From it, we're singing the song Stud and Babe."

I sit here trying to impress and make this guy aw struck.
But every subject I address make me sound like such a shmuck.

Its not that I can't be diverting, sometimes I can even thrill,
But I'd just be so much better at flirting, if i only had looks that kill.
If I were a stud.

If I were a babe.

The kind of guy girls love.

The kind of girl guys crave.

Re: The Performance - Diva's Lament

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Sharpay dashed off the stage again, as Ryan said, "Sharpay's taking the stage alone again to sing the Diva's Lament, from Kingdom of Luncheon Meat."

Sharpay came back on as the music started, a bitter look on her face.

What ever happened to my part?
It was exciting at the start.
Now we're halfway through Act 2
And I've had nothing yet to do.

I've been offstage for far too long
It's ages since I had a song.
This is one unhappy Diva
The producer's have deceived her.
There is nothing I can sing from my heart.
Whatever Happened to My Part?

Re: The Performance - Can't Take My Eyes Off of You

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Our last song tonight," Sharpay said, "is another song written by Kelsi Nielsen. It's called Can't Take My Eyes Off of You."

Ryan spoke, saying, "It's been great to be here for you all tonight. We'll be around for a little while after the performance. We've got demo CDs if you like our singing, and we're totally happy to talk about the music if any of it is new to you."

Sharpay smiled widely, a true stage diva. "Thank you so much, everyone. Without you, there'd be no show."

Ya never know what you’re gonna feel, oh
Ya never see it comin’ suddenly it’s real

Oh, never even crossed my minde, no
That I would ever end up here tonight

All things change
When you don’t expect them to
No one knows
What the future’s gonna do
I never even noticed
That you’ve been there all along

After the Performance

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-16 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ryan and Sharpay are around if you want to buy their demo discs or get autographs or anything like that.

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
She doesn't want an autograph, but, maybe a demo disc... "Hi. I didn't recognize that 'Purpose' song? What show did you say it was from?"

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
It was Ryan's song, so he smiled and said, "Boulevard Z. It's done with puppets. It's been running for a few years now."

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Hunh. Can I have a demo disc?" Charlie grinned. "I work at the local music store, I might play it during my shift if my boss is okay with it."

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
And that was Sharpay shoving forward. "Of course! Would you like it autographed? And if your boss is interested, we offer discounts on large orders of discs, if you think you might want to carry the CD in the store."

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Ummm, autographed, sure," Charlie said, blinking at Sharpay. No shyness here, hunh. "I don't know about carrying the CD, but if you give me a card? Maybe I can have her call you." She debated mentioning Melody's name, then decided to hold off until after her boss had heard the whole disc. She might want to bin it after two songs.

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Sharpay, of course, totally had business cards. "Here you go," she said, scrawling across the CD booklet and then passing it onto Ryan before taking it back and handing it to Charlie along with the card. "I'm certain that your boss will love it."

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure she'll let you know," Charlie said diplomatically, then grinned at Ryan. "You guys have great voices. Are you trying out for Broadway this summer?"

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Well," Sharpay said, railroading right over Ryan as he opened his mouth to speak, "our agent is always looking for work for us, but we do have another year of high school to finish first. We're planning to get through high school before moving on to New York."

Ryan smiled. "Yeah, we're not quite ready yet. Almost, though."

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] girlzippo.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
"Cool. Well, good to hear you guys again." She shook her head at Sharpay a little, then smiled at Ryan. "Good luck with that. I'll look for you guys in Variety or whatever."

Re: After the Performance

[identity profile] sharpayandryan.livejournal.com 2007-06-17 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ryan smiled back. "Thank you! I hope you enjoy the CD!"

Sharpay nodded at her, but had already turned to the next audience member.
