The Beach, Monday Afternoon

Tori made it to the beach in record time, surfboard in hand. She'd managed to get Dustin back into his tank after another failed escape attempt on his part.

She tested the water, finding it to be a little cool, but not as bad as she'd expected. Taking a seat in the sand, Tori waxed her board as she waited for Luke.

Luke came down to the beach very soon after Tori arrived, towel in hand and a giant smile on his face.

"Ready to learn, Master," he teased.

Tori laughed, amused. "Master, huh? Has a nice ring to it." She joked.

Luke grinned back. "Master Yoda practically insisted on it," he said, putting his towel on the sand. "There were two of us in the middle of a swamp learning how to turn me into a Jedi, but the proper forms must be maintained."

"Did he now?" Tori smiled, chuckling a bit. "I guess old habits die hard? Or something like that."

"Well, he's about a millions years old, so probably," Luke said, rolling his eyes. His voice was amused, though. "What do I do first?"

"Wow, then I guess they really do." Tori smirked. "Well, we could either practice on land first and then get in the water, or just start in the water?" She offered, having been taught how to get on the board on land, first. Because of the whole balancing thing and what not.

[Off to watch TV with the family! Be back in about an hour or so!]

"Land first, please," Luke said, looking a little nervous.

"Land it is." Tori nodded, standing up and brushing the sand off. She set the board down flat, so it was pointing towards the water. "What you want to do first is find your center of balance. You can try standing on the board, if you'd like." She suggested. "Then I'll show you a few moves that will help you to effectively stay on the board, while in the water."

[Entourage is on! Be back in another hour, hehe!]

"Like lightsaber combat," Luke said, with a nod as he stood on the board.

He was centered all right, but he was holding himself like he was ready to repel an attack. Surfing's not quite that dangerous.

"Yeah, I guess." Tori nodded, having never seen any lightsaber combat but trusting Luke's knowledge on the subject.

She smiled at the way Luke was holding himself on the board. "You want to be a little more relaxed, while on the board. That way, it's easier to control your moves on the water."

"I'm totally relaxed," he claimed.

Relaxed people don't grit their teeth quite that hard.

"You sure?" Tori raised an eyebrow, a tiny smile appearing on her face.

"Getting there," Luke amended as he stopped flailing his hands quite so much. "Okay, now what do I do? I'm guessing not 'wait for the tide to come in.'"

Tori laughed. "You could if you wanted, but that's pretty boring." She grinned. "I can show you how I learned to get up on the board, when it's in the water. And then you can try that a couple of times on land and then we can try it in the water."

"That's a good plan," Luke said with a nod. "I'm probably going to be not great at this the first few times."

Only a Skywalker would expect to be perfect at everything all the time, really.

"I wasn't so good at this, at first." Tori admitted, with a sheepish grin. "I kept falling face first into the water." That caused her to blush slightly. "But with practice, I became better at it."

She smiled, mentally checking over the steps on how to get on the board before both instructing and demonstrating for Luke. "What you want to do first, is lay flat on the board, like so." Tori explained, "then you want to push up as if you're doing push ups." She then went on to jump to her feet, bringing her left leg forward in order to balance her stance. Her arms were stretched to in front and to the side, again to help with balance. "And that's pretty much how you get onto a surfboard."

Luke had watched carefully. "Got it," he said with a smile, "as long as you don't want me to be doing a handstand and balancing Artoo at the same time."

He imitated her moves exactly. The boy was a quick study.

Tori laughed at that image. She shook her head in amusement. "No, I don't. If you really wanted to try though, I wouldn't stop you." She winked.

He was a quick study, wow. "That's all there is to it. Only, you have to add the water."

"I'm betting that's where the challenge comes in," he said with a smile. "Shall we?"

"You'd be right about that." Tori nodded, smiling. "We shall." She agreed, moving to grab her surfboard. "The shallower parts of the water are a good place to start as any."

Luke trotted after her until his feet hit the water. "That's cold!" he yelped.

Dork.

Tori laughed, wading into the water until it was about waist high. It was a bit cold, but she didn't mind one bit.

"Just a little." Tori wasn't thinking about splashing Luke. Nope. Not one bit. Which was a total lie.

Not that Luke had already decided to splash her first, either. Really.

Ignore that wave of water heading her way.

Of course, Tori should've seen that coming.

But she didn't, which was why she got a faceful of water. Sputtering, Tori laughed and sent a wave of water back towards Luke.

He held up his hand and concentrated hard on the wave, and it hovered about three inches away from him.

He grinned at her, excited about his progress. "This is hard!"

Which meant if she added more water to the situation, she'd have a wet Jedi.
