Groovy Tunes, Wednesday

Melody was still a little jet-lagged from her trip out of town for the Pussycats reunion show in Brazil when she opened the store. She yawned, and settled into a purple beanbag at a listening station with Mopsy the kitten on her lap. She wasn't quite asleep ... yet. She could hear the door even over the samba compilation on her headphones.

"Hi, Miss Valentine!" Charlie said as she came in, giving Flopsy a pat on the head. "Have you got a minute?"

A day later Melody stirred, opened her eyes wide, and gave Charlie a smile as she removed the headphones. "I sure do," she said. "Hey, wouldn't it be weird if people actually had minutes? Like bus passes or something?"

Charlie paused, grinning at that image. "Little shiny minutes to trade in? That would be kind of cool." She leaned on the counter. "I was wondering if I could have Saturday off? Maybe make it up on one of your days next week? There's a school trip over the weekend, and two of my classes are going."

"Sure, no problem," Melody said. "I'll open the store. Don't worry about making it up."

"Thanks so much!" Charlie grinned in relief. "I would have hated to miss it." And maybe she didn't have to make it up, but her boss was getting free Slushies for being cool.
