Groovy Tunes, Thursday

As the kittens frolicked, Charlie had her notebook open, and was doing some therapy-by-writing in order to figure some things out.

Fiona glared at Derek and Sean. "Okay, great escape. We've taken out half the space carrier. Did you have a plan for getting us out of here, or were we just jumping out an airlock and catching an updraft?"

Groovy Tunes was open.

After talking to Chad, Annette decided that getting Teddy a gift certificate for his birthday would be great.

She entered the shop and smiled as she spotted the kittens but moved forward to talk to the girl there. Annette didn't want to interrupt but softly she inquired, "Hello? I was wondering if you could help me?"

Charlie flipped her notebook shut, and looked up, attentive. "Sure, what do you need? Anything I can help you find?"

Annette smiled wide, "I need a gift certificate, please? It's a birthday gift," she offered and began to pull out her wallet. "I think I've seen you around but have not had the pleasure of meeting you yet. I'm Annette Hargrove."

"Oh." Charlie studied the other girl, looking for signs of Griselda-ness. Not that she could say anything while she was working. "Hi, I'm Charlie. And yes, we do gift certificates. How much did you want it to be for?"

Annette, unaware that she was being scrutinized for any Griselda-ness, continued smiling as she handed Charlie a fifty dollar bill. "Nice to meet you Charlie."

"Sure." Charlie took the money, feel vague guilt, thinking about Turtle; then realize that Turtle would be the first person to say, Take Griselda's money! "Do you want a card with that?" She asked, feeling a little more cheerful as she got out the certificate. "And who do you want this to be made out to?"

"Ooh! You have cards too? Yes, I would love a card. Oh, Teddy Altman, thanks Charlie."

"No problem." She filled out the certificate for fifty dollars, and took out the four or five cards that were available. "I kind of like the one with the cat." She grinned over at Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail. "No particular reason."

The longer she talked to Annette, the more awkward this got... "Um. So." What to say? "Has Johnny apologized yet?"

"I like the cat too," she smiled and grinned over at the kittens. "I have one myself though she is slowly growing out of kitten-hood. She is white and fluffy with big blue eyes. I named her Angel because that is who gave her to me." She said.

And wow, but Charlie totally caught her off guard with her next question and Annette looked down, her smile falling a little, "No," she said softly, shrugging a shoulder. "He hasn't. But it's okay. If he just stays away from me I will be happy enough. You must have heard about that on the radio?"

"That's cute." And Charlie could kind of see that Annette was just not Turtle's kind of person, and maybe that was half the reason for the hate. Well, aside from justified rage at hair theft. "Good friend, giving you a pet. I didn't know we could have them here."

Charlie fiddled with the cash register, and admitted, "No, a couple people told me. Including Johnny. I meant to ask him if he'd apologized, but we had other stuff to talk about the last time I saw him."

"Pets? Or good friends," she joked. "And actually, it was my mentor and friend who gifted me with Angel. His name is Aziraphale. Have you met him yet? He works at Book Haven one day a week I think and is a Professor here though I am not certain what he is teaching this next semester. He is really great, Charlie. A very nice gentleman. And angel."

Annette put her wallet away, "Oh." She wasn't sure what to say. "I feel bad that it is going around but I don't know what to do about it. Johnny wasn't right what he did but as I've thought back over it, I don't think I was the one he intended to kiss. Sounds strange, I know. But I don't have an explanation."

Dean had spent the morning in town picking up a few things and stopped by the music shop after hitting the ice cream place. "Hey," he said as he came in, carrying two sundaes. "You want to eat one of these so I don't look like a total pig?"

"Ooooooo!" Charlie lit up and grinned, coming out from behind the counter. "In the interests of saving you from pig-dom, I can force myself." She grinned gleefully. "This is too nice of you!"

Dean handed one over. "Figured since I was getting one for myself..." he said shrugging. "Ice cream tastes better if there's more than one person eating it."

"Coooool." Charlie restrained herself from grinning goofily by spooning up a bite, and then swirling the ice cream in the dish. "Are you done with all your workshops yet? And do we just get to hang out all next week?"

"I've got one more tomorrow, but other than that, yeah," Dean said, taking a huge bite of his own sundae. "And pretty much. Time to goof off and laze about at the beach and all that good summer stuff."

"Fourth of July fireworks. Even though we got started early yesterday," Charlie said, spooning up some whipped cream. "And tonight's bar-b-q! I'm going to shut down Groovy Tunes a little early so I can go. Miss Valentine's always said it's okay to do that, if we don't do it too often." She sobered a little. "I went in to talk to Principal Washburn this morning."

"Yeah?" Dean looked up from his ice cream. "What did she say?"

"She seemed to think it would be okay, and the rest is being played out," Charlie said, licking her spoon. "So, hopefully I can stay this Fall." She gave him a hesitant smile. "Cool, hunh?"

Dean nodded taking another bite. "Very. Zoe's someone you can trust. She'll figure out a way for you to stay."

"That would be great." She grinned, watching him eat, and bounced a little on her toes. "I really like it here, and I just-- I don't want things to be rough on my grandfather. He's got enough problems. I'm old enough to figure out how to fix this." Which made her feel a little more responsible, saying that aloud. Yeah.

"It's good to look for options and all on your own, but don't cut your grandfather out of the loop," Dean said. "Family's important."
