After leaving instructions for Apu about the store for tomorrow, Turtle sat down behind the counter and worked on her last minute plans. When she got out of work, she'd have to head to the causeway and then head back home to Westingtown. Like she was missing a Westingtown Fourth of July! Even if Old Man Westing was dead and rotting, his spirit was being kept alive in the giant Independence Day celebrations he was known for.

And, in the true spirit of Old Man Westing, fireworks and items of Americana were fifty-percent off. As far as the fireworks went, Turtle figured that half the people here could make their own fireworks, so it's not like she could be selling all that many, anyway.

The glittery "Help Wanted" sign was still in the window. And one of the door. And the counter. Because, hey. New kids. New potential.

Today's Squishy Flavors: Periwinkle, Pink, Eggshell White.

[[ Turtle & Canary is a large general store that serves just about everything except for duct tape. Currently, it's owned by Turtle Welxer, who used to co-own it with Jane Canary, and thus how the name was born. It used to be All and Sundries, and thus why the tag for the store is 'sundries'. There's also Apu from The Simpsons who is constantly working there. There's a robot dog named Liz who serves as security, and a big sentiant SquishyBot made by Agatha over at Sparky's that will serve you your Squishies, has lasers on its head, and eyes that will follow you as you walk. There's also a small gelatinous Cube on the counter that doesn't do much. Apu, Liz, SquishyBot, and Cube are all moddable. That should cover it, but any questions, just go ahead and ask in the OOC thread ]]

He's there for the modding, as usual, and actually looking forward to a day or two without Turtle around.

She's trying to think of Fourth of July presents to give everyone back home. Yes. Fourth of July presents. Independence Day is almost bigger than Christmas in Westingtown.

Bart had been enjoying his exploring of the town. It was fun to be able to run around and not have to worry about Wally popping up to yell at him.

...Unless he was just biding his time. Bart began to imagine Wally hiding in one of the trees, lying in wait for him and then BAM! Ninja attack! He didn't want to be ninja attacked!

So... he slowed down and noticed a very glittery sign proclaiming help was wanted. He was good at helping people. Most of the time. Sometimes. Maybe.

"Hi!" Bart said cheerfully, zipping into the store and stopping at the front counter.

Turtle, pushing herself slightly up from here she was leaning on the counter and reading toward Wall Street Journal, blinked at the kid. She wasn't really paying attention but that had to be the fasted she'd ever seen anyone go from door to counter. "Hey," she said back, offering him a smile. "What can I do for you today?"

Bart pointed toward the window helpfully. See? He was helpful. "The sign said you needed help and I'm here to help."

Speaking of Christmas...! "Oh, excellent! We've been looking for employment for a while now, so we're very eager to have someone interested. Now, the pay rate is just minimum wage, but that includes an employee discount on all merchandise and free Squisihies." Two seconds later, she'd pulled out an application from under the counter, where she'd been waiting and waiting and waiting to have someone to pull them out for, partially to show them off. "Now, if you could just fill out this application, then," he handed it to him and then followed it with a pen, "and get that back to me as soon as you can, I'll have a look and we'll see about getting you a spot! There's even a special spot here..." She pointed idly as she leaned over the counter a bit, "to fill in case of potential problems like being from a different world or different time."

Well she did say as soon as he could and it would be rude to make her wait...

Bart handed her the application back, completely filled out. "Done!"

Again, Turtle blinked. "Uh...wow. That...was quick. You sure you got everything?" she asked, checking both sides of the application for something he may have missed.

Bart nodded in his most helpful manner. That got brownie points, right? Whatever brownie points were.

"That's everything."

"So it is..." Turtle quickly rechecked the name, "Bart. Hmm, new student, I see." She made small talk while she checked some of the details, "Enjoy Fandom so far?"

"Kinda boring," Bart said, ~~running~~ glancing over at the Squishie machine every time she looked down. The eyes were so coooool.

And, miraculously, they were just about quick enough to follow him. Thus was the ability of the great SquishyBot.

"Hm, Monday and Wednesdays work for you, Bart? We can have you start next week, and I'll train you on what you need to know." She nodded very seriously, while, internally, she was doing an excited little dance. Her first hiring! It was a very thrilling, memorable moment.

He loved the squishie machine just for that. Now if only there was some sort of game console he could hook into it...

"Next week?" Bart asked, sounding like she said he started next year. He'd die of boredom before his job even started!

"Well," Turtle said, frowning slightly because she didn't like hearing such disappointment, "I have to go home for the Fourth of July, and won't be back until Friday. If you're available to come in there, or maybe during the weekend, we can do your training then? And then you'll work every Monday and Wednesday, if that works for you."

Bart was slightly mollified by that. He still wanted to start helping now, but that was better than a whole week.

"Friday?"

Turtle nodded. "Friday. And then maybe after that, I'll take you to Caritas and we can celebrate you being my first hired employee."

"Is there coffee there? I was told to try coffee."

Well, not really. Rikku said he might explode, but he took that as an okay for caffeine.

"I don't think so," Turtle frowned. "We could celebrate at the Perk if you'd prefer. Coffee is really, really gross, but it's very important to drink it when you're in the business world."

Impromptu picnic today! I'll be here for a bit, then off until later!

But...but...no red! THE WORLD IS ENDING AGAIN. *counts pink as red to make everything better*
