Trooper Station - Monday

Last week had been a long week with lots of paperwork and too little sleep. The two weren't entirely related, but somehow they did seem to always end up happening simultaneously. Whatever it was, the heap of paperwork from the previous week had slinked down to one neat stack. A high stack, but still just one, and Roy's mood was definitely better too after last night's party.

The door to his office was left open so he could hear in case anyone dropped by the front desk.

"Afternoon, General Mustang," Aly said, moving through the station to lean against the door to his office.

Roy glanced up from his papers and smiled, glad for the distraction he had to miss for a week. "Corporal. Afternoon, miss Alianne."

"Right now I'm just calling you threatener," she teased. "I have something for you though." Her hands were behind her back.

"Yet I doubt that you suddenly fear me," he teased back and tilted his head as he noticed she was hiding her hands. "In that case, you might want to come in."

"Or not depending on the gift," she laughed, but she came into the office.

"Well if you want to take it somewhere more private," he suggested, eye twinkling with mischief.

Aly wrinkled her nose at him, eyes laughing. "I meant so I could escape after pelting you with water or slime or some such."

"Would you risk losing the gift I got you?" he asked innocently.

"For a good enough prank? Absolutely."

Roy sighed. "Shame. I thought it was a rather good gift."

"You're enjoying this, aren't you," she asked, looking amused.

He beamed at her. "Very much so."

Aly chuckled and set a bottle of jam on his desk. It was smartly decorated with checked red and white cloth and a ribbon, and on the side a pasted on paper that read Auntie Aly's Finest Jams and Preserves.

"That's part of it."

Roy raised an eyebrow and leaned forward, picking up the bottle. "Auntie Aly's..." he read, giving her an amused look. "See now I'm imagining you making this."

She snorted. "Trust me when I say I've never made jam in my life."

"Oh, I trust you," he was still holding on to the jam as he sat back in his chair again. "So what's the other part?"

Aly flipped him a brightly coloured woven tube.

Catching it, Roy raised an eyebrow at her. "I'm not sure I get it."

"Put your fingers in it," she said. "Then you'll see."

"I'm not sure I want to," Roy said suspiciously.

"Then you'll never know, will you?"

Stupid logic. He put the jam down and studied the tube again before slipping it over both his index fingers. "Now what?"

She smirked, looking evil. "Oh, that's it."

"What...?" he tried to remove his fingers from the tube, but the fabric tightened and he couldn't pull it off. "What did you just do?"

Aly laughed. "I didn't do anything at all."
