Turtle & Canary; Tuesday [ 07/10 ]

Before anything else would get done, Turtle had a very important statement to make. Off went the stupid, wrong, incorrect Bob nametag from SquishyBot, and a much more accurate and prettier Alice nametag replaced it. She smoothed it out, smiled with a nod at SquishyBot. "That's much better, now, isn't it Alice?"

With that, she beamed at her handiwork and went to take up her spot at the counter. The now ultra-glittery "Help Wanted" sign was still on the door.

Today's Squishy Flavors: Red, Blue, Pink.

She's there to be talked to, reading through the WSJ as usual.

Like a normal teenager does. If they're played by the midget guy from that sha-na-na-na show back in the eighties. Micheal something or other.

"Minion!"

"Mister Deadpool! Hi!"

Deadpool grinned and ambled on over to the counter. Then paused. "Why does the squishie machine have a name tag?"

Turtle let out a huff of a sigh, as if explaining it was going to be huge hassle for her, pouting slightly as her arms crossed over her chest. "Because, apparently, my new employee thinks Bob is a good name for a girl SquishyBot, which it isn't, so I'm setting the record straight."

Unaware that the machine had a gender to begin with, Deadpool just nodded. "Okay then. Good enough for me."

...though it did look kinda like a Bob.

"How is my lil' minion besides naming robots that serve chilly goodness?"

"Goooooood," Turtle said with a little bounce. "Went home for the Fourth of July. Pretty eventful," she said, with a proud sort of expression on her face that was pretty much begging for Mister Deadpool to inquire for more.

Well now he had to ask. "What kind of eventful? Do I need to smuggle you to Uruguay?"

Taking a look around for squirrels, Turtle leaned forward on the counter, giving Mister Deadpool a very conspiratorial look and lowering her voice to a whipser, "Can you keep a secret?" She planned on telling him, anyway, but she did enjoy making a big deal out of it.

Well, it was a big deal!

Hmm, Uruguay was sound more and more likely now. Deadpool leaned forward to whisper back, "Do you speak Spanish? Because that's useful in South America. Or maybe Portuguese?"

Turtle ducked her head as she giggled a little. "No, I don't, but that's okay, because I swear, a trip to Uruguay is not involved at all. But," she said, dragging out the suspense. Her little tour as a lawyer had her rather liking this method of exposition, being all hint-droppy and stuff, "if I did need to hire you to sneak me into South America somewhere, I could probably afford to pay you tenfold of what the job was probably worth."

"Did you rob a bank?!"

With a snort of laughter, Turtle's head thunked on the counter. "Heh, nooo. Everything was completely legal, thank you very much. You know I'd rather exploit loopholes to make it so than go all out bad guy. Did I ever tell you about that whole weird will thing I was in? With Old Man Westing offering up his inheritance to whoever found out who killed him?"

"Not so much." Deadpool paused. "So you didn't kill him I take it."

"Of course not!" Turtle pouted a little. "I couldn't kill anything, you know that. But I did figure out who did, in a trial that you would have really been impressed to see, so I? Won two hundred million dollars. Best Fourth of July ever. You can't tell anyone, though, okay? Except Charlie, because she knows, too, but that's all. You and Charlie. Only ones outside of Westingtown who can know, because I don't want people treating me differently just because I'm a millionaire."

Deadpool blinked. "Who's Charlie?"

It better not be another machine, damn it. "Nevermind! So you're a millionaire, huh? Will you be swimming in a pile of money soon? Because that always seems like fun."

"Charlie's my best friend," Turtle said, obliviously leaving the possibility that she was a machine pretty open. "And, no, I didn't, because it went right into the bank. It's my college fund. There's no way I won't be able to pay for Harvard or Yale now."

"Aww," Deadpool reached over to giver her hair a little ruffly. "My little fiscally responsible minion."

Turtle's nose wrinkled at the hair ruffle, and then a part of her was really astonished at how the urge to kick didn't just take over her like it would have a few months ago. Was she really just used to the hair now, so much that what was previously a punishable offense was no big deal? Or was it just because it was Mister Deadpool, who, like Sandy, was able to get away with it?

"Fiscally responsible millionaire minion!" she corrected him brightly.

"Of course!" Deadpool replied. "But I thought I wasn't supposed to mention it to anyone. Except Charlie. So I was practicing."

(Note to self, find out more about this Charlie.)

"Ohhh, I get it! Good thinking." Turtle attempted a wink to show Mister Deadpool that she was in on his clever ruse of her minion titling, but she couldn't quite get winking down yet, so it was just really a well-emphasized blink.

Deadpool totally understood what she meant. Kinda.

He made another mental note to get her some eyedrops.

"So no random spending on say... a pony?"

"Tempting," Turtle giggled, "but no. Then I wouldn't be the fiscally responsible minion, now, would I? I mean, two hundred million is more than enough for college, but if I let it fester in my savings account for the next three years, then I can by a whole farm of ponies if I wanted to, on the interest alone."

"Hmmm." Deadpool paused to think that over. "Can I have a pony then? A miniature pony? I want to name it Fernando."

"You mean when I've collected all that interest?" Turtle asked. "Or, like, now?"

"After the interest, when you buy that pony farm."

Because who wouldn't want a pony farm?

"Of course you can! That's a given, Mister Deadpool."

"And that's why you're an excellent minion," Deadpool replied, giving her a fond look. And then shaking his head because that was very Leave It to Beaver. He paused, trying to remember why he was there again, other than to catch up with the minion.

Oh yes. Poster.

"Mind if I put this up here?"

"Not at all," Turtle said, leaning over the counter to see. "What is it?"

"Just my job until school starts back up in the fall," Deadpool replied, holding up one of the posters.

"Advice columnist?" Turtle asked, with a wry, skeptical little grin.

"I give excellent advice."

Turtle smirked. "Uh-huh. Well, you are good for helping with a situation through ice cream. I don't know about advice, but we'll see. How many of those you got? You want me to put some up around the dorms, for you?"

Because she wanted to spread the word and have more entertaining things to read once this kicked off.

"Would you?" She really was a great minion. And not just for the ponies. He held out a small pile. "Make sure to tell your friends that I'm a good advisor."

"Not only will I tell them you're a good adviser," Turtle told him, "but I'll tell them you're the best adviser. Especially..." She smirked. "If you buy a Squishy on your way out."

"As long as it's red, you've got yourself a deal!" Deadpool said, putting his hand out to shake on it.

And Turtle met it with a very businesslike shake indeed. "Deal! Of course we've got red. We always have Red! Alice, you know what to do."

The SquishyBot started into motion to prepare the delicious frozen beverage.

~~Bob~~ Alice was just so much fun to watch in action. "Hey! now you can afford to hire me for real!"

It just popped into his head.

Turtle rolled her eyes, but she was grinning. "I, like, totally said that five hours ago, Mister Deadpool. Keep up." She stuck her tongue out at him.

Deadpool stuck his tongue out back at her, snickering as he did. Wait... mask. Damn it. "Horrible minion. Always insulting me."

"I claim apple and tree! Apple and tree!"

"You're around me for ten minutes and already you're all babbley. I don't know if I should be proud or not."

"You have to be proud," Turtle said, preening. "'Cause I'm a millionaire."

She could totally be all cocky about it in front of Mister Deadpool.

"Proud it is then," Deadpool replied, nodding sagely. "Very good reasoning there."

Especially while Turtle is in Scouting!
