Fast Eddie's: Tuesday Night

Jack was grinning as he sauntered into Fast Eddie's. He was a bit early for his date with Jo, but he figured killing time wouldn't be a problem. He took over a pool table and racked the balls, picking over cues until he found one he was happy with, well able to amuse himself shooting pool until Jo arrived.

He really wasn't very good at it. Honest. That he sunk four solids on the break was just a fluke.

Jo didn't exactly saunter into Fast Eddie's, but she didn't exactly look nervous either. "Evening, stranger."

"Hey, Jo. You look good, as always." He grinned and set the cue down, walking over to stand in front of her. "So, I survived. Do I get points for that?"

[*facepalm* I was running out the door!]

"As do you. You do indeed," Jo said, grinning. "And I didn't even hear about shotguns being involved. I'm impressed."

[*pats* *hides new glitter flags*]

"Your mom's a complete softie," he said, and paused to see if the world would end. It didn't, so he smirked and added, "And she likes me."

"Careful," Jo said, wandering over to choose a pool cue. "You're making it sound like she's possessed."

"What, because she likes me?" Jack followed, walking behind Jo and dipping his head as he passed, so his mouth was just above her hair. "I'll have you know lots of people like me who aren't possessed."

"Most of them aren't my overprotective mother," Jo said, shivering nearly imperceptibly. "And usually she doesn't like boys I like. So you must have some pretty good charming skills if she likes you too."

"If I agree, you'll think I'm arrogant, and if I disagre, you'll think I'm a liar," he pointed out, retrieving his cue and leaning on the table. "But I do like the bit where you said you like me. Fancy a game?"

"It's only arrogant if you can't back it up," Jo said. "Or if you're the one to bring it up in the first place. I'd love one."

Jack had to laugh. "In that case, yes, I'm very charming," he said with a grin, reaching for the rack. "Do you want to grab the balls out of the pockets? I've been practicing while I waited for you."

"Sure thing," Jo said, bending to collect the balls. It was purely coincidence her top was cut just low enough for Jack to get a hint of cleavage if he wanted. "You any good?"

Jack thought it was adorable, and very casually let his eyes wander to the hint of cleavage, because it would have been rude not to, before moving back to her face. He was smiling a little as he said, "Depends on what you're asking about."

Jo grinned. "Pool, for now. I'm kinda bad."

No, she wasn't.

"Me, too." Not even a little bit. "I was hoping maybe you could give me some pointers."

"I can try," Jo said, racking up the balls. "But I only really know the basics."

"Then this should be very interesting," he said, wandering over to lean on the table, right next to Jo, hip just brushing hers. "Want the break?"

Oh, yeah, that wasn't distracting. At all. "Sure," she said, leaning over and lining up the shot.

"Looks good," Jack said, and it's anyone's guess what he was talking about.

Jo smiled and made the break shot. Pure luck that two of the solids went in. "Oh, wow. That never happens."

"Hey, nice shot." Jack didn't look at her suspiciously, at all. "Maybe you could show me how to hold my cue like that, see if I do that well."

"Sure," Jo grinned at Jack in a completely innocent manner. "Just a matter of the right grip."

He grinned back, in no way even close to innocently. "I've heard that before," he said. "When it's my turn, you can put my hands where you think they should go."

And that would be Jo missing her shot. "I'll be sure too."

"My turn now?" he asked mildly, hiding a smile by sheer force of will.

"Yeah," Jo replied. "Guess it is."
