Around Fandom - Friday Night

The sun was down when large shapes started to slowly appear around Fandom. At first, they were barely shadows, nothing more than what you'd think was something you caught out of the corner of your eye. Then they became more and more real, more solid, more aware of their new surroundings.

A plesiosaurus raised its head above the surface of the park pond. High above the island, a pteranodon soared through the air. Rustling in the trees near the school-side edge of the Preserve, a woolly mammoth found some leaves to eat. Finally, Efferton Manor found itself with a new resident on the front lawn, a stegosaurus who was happy to mind its own business.

Dinosaurs hadn't roamed most worlds for millions of years until now.

Now they were back.

Bored with spraying the water, the big dinosaur got strangely still. The momentary silence was disrupted by a large amount of bubbles breaking the surface around the back half of the beast. This was accompanied by what can only be described as an ungodly smell.

Okay, that got Johnny to back up a bit from the pond, and try to wave the horrific stench away from his nose. TV specials about dinosaurs never talked about how much they reeked.

"Y'know, you gotta stop eating whatever brought that on," he said. "It ain't doing good things for your image."

This sudden release of tension seemed to give the big dinosaur a second wind oh so bad, I know, I know, and it surged over to the side of the pond, pulled itself out of the water with its big front flippers, and shook itself off - water slinging everywhere.

And with a dinosaur that big shaking itself off, there was no way Johnny could avoid getting wet. The water soaked into his t-shirt and jeans in splotches.

"Thanks," he said flatly, looking up at the plesiosaur.

Oh, oh, that's a terrible pun. My hat off to you, dinosaur-mun.

The plesiosaur flopped down on the bank and looked at the wet creature and wondered why it had not brought more of the pizza like the other creature had.

Johnny took a half step backwards when the dinosaur flopped down but didn't move back and further. It didn't seem all that dangerous. Wet, and very smelly, but mostly harmless.

He was tempted to put out his hand to touch it, but seeing that he had no idea that he should have brought pizza along, he wondered if it would try to eat him.

Stretching its neck, the plesiosaur took a great sniff at the tiny creature. Wouldn't you know, it must've inhaled something skritchy, because all of a sudden the plesiosaur let out a huge snotty sneeze.

If Johnny ran, he might be able to get away in time to avoid being covered in dinosaur boogers.

Johnny stared up in horror as the plesiosaur suddenly changed into a woolly mammoth.

He recognized that noise. Sure it was different coming from a giant elephant lizard, but that was the sound that someone was about to let rip with a sneeze.

Despite the wet clothing, he immediately spun on his heel and ran as fast as he could in the opposite direction.

After that sneeze, the plesiosaurus felt much better. It panted happily, much like a dog and wondered why the creature had run off.
