At the causeway - Monday morning

So, here they were again. Molly was leaving for the rest of the summer and very excited about it, but hated that it meant that she had to say goodbye to Karal again. First thing she was going to do when she got to Angel's was talk to them about setting up a date for Karal and the others to visit.

Molly stood with her arms around Karal's waist and her forehead pressed against his chest as they waited for the portal to open. "This sucks," she muttered.

"It does," he agreed, deciding that it was actually an excellent term, and he rested his chin on her hair. "But I will be allowed to visit, and I will write you a letter. Several letters."

"And I'll write back," she said, leaning back just enough so that she could look up at him. "I'll send pictures too."

"I would like that," he told her, smiling as ran his finger down her nose, then kissed the tip of it. "I will miss you, Molly."

"I will miss you too," she said and hugged him again.

"And you promised you would take care, learning to fight demons." He was proud that he didn't flinch when he said that. "If you are not, I may have to send Altra to stare at you."

Molly snickered and stretched up to kiss him quickly. "I promise that I'll be careful. I wouldn't want to upset Altra."

"It is never a good idea." He caught her face between his hands and turned the quick kiss into something longer, trying to say a proper goodbye.

That was more than okay with Molly. She closed her eyes and kissed him back.

Unnoticed for the moment, a portal opened nearby.

Karal's hand had slipped under her hair to rest against her neck, and he sighed a little, eyes drifting open as he moved to kiss across her cheek.

And saw the portal. "Molly?"

Molly could hear the portal making its swirly noises. She kept her eyes tightly shut and leaned against Karal. "Yes?" she said, going for a few more moments of denial.

"It is time to go." He reached for her hand, holding it in his as he kissed her forehead, then stepped back.

Molly sighed and opened her eyes. Squeezing Karal's hand, she picked up her bags and turned to the portal. "Time to go, I guess," she said with another sigh.

Karal followed her, staring into the portal in awe. "Yes, but I will see you soon," he said lightly. "And you will have a wonderful time, and learn much."

Molly nodded and gave Karal one final kiss on the cheek before letting go of his hand and stepping toward the portal. She looked back. "Bye, Karal," she said with a smile.

He had the brief impulse to take her hand again and pull her back, but he didn't. "Goodbye, Molly," he said, lifting a hand and smiling back. "Sunlord watch over you."

Molly waved back. "You too," she said and then turned back and stepped through.

The portal closed behind her, leaving no trace it had ever been there.

Karal let his hand fall, watching the place it had been for a moment, then turned back towards the school.
