Movies in the Park, Wednesday at Dusk (07/18)

Just before dusk, the temporary movie screen is set up, along with plenty of tarps and awnings to provide dry places for the audience to sit in the event that the clouds turn to rain. A few people have arrived early to share picnic suppers, and to visit with their friends.

[OOC: The movie begins at dusk, and the screen will be removed afterwards. OCD threads will be are up for your movie-going use. Anyone who needs the park for other purposes will find that the outdoor cinema takes up only a portion of the park, with plenty of space available for non-movie needs. Posted early so that I don't forget to do it later.]

After leaving the Magic Box, Neil had headed back up to the dorms and tried to fill the rest of his day until five. He got showered and changed and then headed down to the Pizza Planet to pick up dinner.

Keeping it simple, he went with a cheese, pepperoni and mushroom pizza and a couple of sodas. All this he carried back to the park, Conner's old bed comforter thrown over his arm to provide a place to sit.

Standing at the edge of the park, near the large screen, Neil tried not to look too nervous about all this.

Andrew arrived at the park, slightly out of breath -- a mix of anxiety and having just run there from the Magic Box. He spotted Neil and walked towards him, doing his best to look calm and collected.

"Hey, Neil. Nice comforter." Andrew seemed to be watching a particularly interesting cloud drift by.

"Good evening, Andrew!" Neil said with perhaps more relief than was particularly considered 'cool'.

Looking down at the comforter over his arm, he chuckled.

"It's my old roommate's ... well, I mean it's the school issue from his bed. Figured it would work in a pinch. So, cheese, pepperoni and mushroom good with you?"

He asked, holding up the container.

"Perfect! I'm famished." Andrew hopped onto the comforter and sat down, looking up at Neil and smiling.

"You really didn't have to buy the pizza. I'll give you a few bucks for it."

Once Andrew was settled, Neil sat down beside him and put the pizza between them. Flipping open the top, he released that wonderful yummy pizza smell and then passed out some paper plates and napkins, as well as the sodas.

"Tell you what, bring me more comics to read and we'll call it even, okay? I really am getting into the storyline of the group you brought up, do you have more?"

"Oh, I have them all!" Andrew grabbed a slice of pizza and started to chow down.

With his mouth slightly full, "An' d' ones I 'on't 'ave, I got ill'gal scans of."

He swallowed and took a big drink of soda.

Despite what might usually be called date -only this wasn't a date!- etiquette, Neil dug eagerly into his own slice of pizza. He did at least swallow in between talking.

"You can get illegal scans? Is that something you do on a computer? I've got to be honest, I haven't really learned how to even turn one of those things on."

Andrew choked, ever so slightly, on his bite of pizza. He finished chewing and took another long drink.

"You don't know how to use a computer! How do you find out the answers to pointless questions? Where do you go to chat with people about the hidden subtext between Duke Starcrawler and Hanno in Space Battles? How do you write your emails?" This boggled Andrew's mind.

"I, ah ... don't?" Neil admitted in a soft, sheepish tone.

Until now he hadn't really worried too much about striving to fit in but under Andrew's questions, he suddently felt hopelessly backwards and out of step and not a little worried that Andrew might laugh at him.

Sometimes, being seventeen sucked!

"Huh." Andrew considered the boy before him. He saw the look on Neil's face and instantly felt his heart break a little. Andrew knew that look, that feeling of being out of place.

He wanted to give the boy a hug. He felt like such an idiot...

"No, that's totally understandable. I should have thought about that before I said something. I have a hard time, um, sometimes, with my mouth being faster than my brain."

He reached a hand out towards Neil, but then pulled it back.

"And if you ever need to send an email, or get an illegal scan of something, you just let me know. I'll be more than happy to do it for you."

Robin's bag of popcorn was as big as he was. He hoped to find people to share it with, cause there was no way he'd be able to eat all this.

They're taking down the screen until next week, but you can still talk about what you just saw, continue snuggling with your date, set up an impromptu game of after-dark frisbee, etc.
