Café Fina, Thursday

It was the strangest thing. She couldn't say how or why, but when she got dressed this morning, Naminé found herself lingering on the paint-splattered dress from her Arts and Crafts class last term.

Ridiculous, Naminé decided. She wasn't going to show up for work in a ruined, stained, rainbow-colored ...

Charlie took a break around dinner time to see what Naminé was up to, and what the special of the week was. "Hey, I know that dress," she teased when she saw Naminé. "It's still super."

Naminé laughed. "It wanted to be worn today, I've no idea why. Who knew clothing could be so bossy?"

"Fashion Imperative! Waiting to jump out of your closet and grab you," Charlie giggled. "I think that was the last time I was 'art' too." She tilted her head. "Unless setting fire to things counts. Maybe that's art, but it's not very lasting."

"That sounds more like being an artist than being art," Naminé mused. "And art can be transient. Dance is an art and it's just as intangible."

"Ooo." She hadn't thought of that. "You're right, it is." Maybe her stupid power didn't have to be useful, after all. Maybe it could just be-- "It's fun. I've been learning new things it can do. And what it can't," Charlie added ruefully. "I'll have to show you, when I get better at it. How have you been, aside from compelled to be colorful?"

"Is it like Katara's waterbending? I find myself drawn to sit and watch her as she moves the waves. I can't stop sketching it, but I never capture the arc of it just right." She considered. "I've been ... more colorful in general, I think. I'm starting to enjoy it."

"Awesome. We need to hit another art gallery this summer, sometime when things aren't attacking," Charlie said. "And it is, kind of? I've been making ropes dance before I set them on fire. And working with different materials. Trying to figure out how to control it. I'm probably very clumsy compared to Katara, if she's anything like Zuko with his fire-bending."

"It does seem to be a rather eventful time of things lately," said Naminé with a light smile. "I don't believe I know Zuko. But the way she makes the water dance is exquisite. It ripples and flows like it's under an enchantment. Perhaps I'm just drawn to water."

Charlie smiled wryly. "I've gotten pretty fond of it too. Zuko's been in a couple of my classes... I should really talk to him about his fire-bending soon. It looks so effortless when he does it-- Oh! Were you here for the dinosaurs?"

Naminé nodded. "I wanted to sketch them, but I didn't get the chance. Instead I portalled around looking for people who needed safe transport."

"That's so cool," Charlie said. "I wish I'd been more help. I got scared by a tiger, and a little hurt, then I just wanted out of there." Plus she'd had moping about Dean to do. "Next time, I hope the ones with carnivorous appetites stay home. If there is a next time, I mean."

"I imagine there will be," Naminé said thoughtfully. "The unusual and bizarre appears to be drawn to this place, but strangely enough, it seems safe here, even so."

"It does, kind of. People here know how to cope with it," Charlie said, thinking of Isabel and Luke and Namine'. "So it never seems like the threat will last." She grinned, and said, "So what's the dessert of the day?"

"We all seem to take care of one another," Naminé said with a light smile. "And there isn't one. I didn't wish to limit choice by suggesting only one. As always, all our desserts are available for the choosing, although none of them are free today, as I couldn't think of a proper special."

"Mmm, that's fair. If you don't get a story or art from me, no free dessert from you. Buuut... I'd still like something to take back to the store, for after dinner." She looked thoughtful. "Anything with extra whipped cream? So I can give some of it to the kittens."

"Mmmmm." Naminé considered. "The pepper shaker did say that the strawberry pie was especially good today. We can put whipped cream on that for you. Is that safe to give to kittens?"

"If it's real cream, and not the fake stuff," Charlie said, "And that sounds delish. There's three of them, there's no much damage they can do with a single helping of whipped cream."

"All right," said Naminé with a laugh, "but should they smear that whipped cream all over the décor at the record shop, I should hope I won't be held responsible."

She left for a few minutes and returned holding a very nice white box, stating a ~~handwavey~~ price.

Charlie snickered at Namine's comment, and then paid for her dessert when it arrived. "Thanks, Naminé. Have a good night, and fun with the dress. And I'll see you later."

"Thank you." She looked down at her dress and twirled experimentally. "I believe I shall."
