The Perk - Monday Afternoon

With a muffin the size of her head and a very large black coffee, Aly was prepared to spend an afternoon reading at the Perk and starting to put together plans for her fall classes.

[Open, of course, it's public!]

A.J. was out with his sketchbook. Yeah. Big, huge surprise there, but he wanted to get some preliminary sketches of the town to base his set designs on when he passed by the Perk. Oooh. Coffee shop. Coffee good. Plus? Art type. Drawn to coffee shops like flies to honey and writers to cliche metaphors. He ducked in, having a look around, reveling a moment in the scent of delicious caffeine. When he got his drink in one hand and his sketchbook tucked under his arm, he passed Aly. And then he stopped, retraced his steps because he'd only caught her in the corner of his eyes and wanted a better look.

And since his method of doing so was barely stealthy, he blamed the muffin.

"That," he stated, a little redfaced, "is a very large muffin."

A.J. was such a king of smooth. Really.

"Heyyyy!" A.J. laughed a little. "It worked! Good choice. I doubt the scones would have done the job as well."

"I'm A.J., by the way." As he introduced himself, his body shifted as if he wanted to hold out a hand, but then remembered that between coffee and sketchbook, he was a little indisposed to do either.

A.J. got one up on her by setting down both the cup and the sketchbook. Once he found room for them, anyway, on the table, having to share the space with that muffin. "Thanks." And, with that, he took her hand and gave it a shake. "Nice meeting you, Aly."

"A little of column A," A.J. said with a shrug, taking back up his coffee cup again and taking a sip, "a little of column B. Right now I'm working out some set designs. I'm head of the tech crew for the musical." He said that last part very importantly, because girls dug guys with responsibilities, right? Ignore the possible less-than-manly stereotypes that went along with the fact that it was still a musical.

"Yup, new. What about you? Haven't seen you around at all."

A.J.'s mind was a stubborn one, and was still interpreting this exactly how he wanted to. Like the fact that cute blonde coffee shop girl here was also a cheerleader. Nice. His head tilted and he lifted his cup to take another sip after he asked, "Well, what classes are you in, then?"

A.J. quirked an impressed eyebrow. "Man, those do sound like fun classes to ta--"

Pause. Blink. "Waaaaaait a second," he sad, as if he'd just seen through Aly's clever disguise. "You said teach, didn't you?"

A.J. shook his head a little. "They sound even better than before," he assured her.

A.J. nodded his head in gratitude that she appreciated it. "How to be a Comic Book Super Hero, How to Deal with Stupid People, How to be Awesome, and Practical Applications."

And, yes, now One of these Things is Not Like the Other was playing in his head. He couldn't help the fact that his head did bob along a little with it.

"Yeah; I tinker a bit with stuff like that." A.J.'s head tilted, suddenly thoughtful. "You mentioned cheerleading. Is that, like, a faculty adviser sort of thing?"

[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I know," A.J. chuckled a little sheepishly, rolling his eyes a bit. "We, uh, still need to get one....You...wouldn't...happen to be interested, would you? Don't know what cheerleading does, but we meet every Sunday evening, plus it isn't even that long because the show's on the eighteenth, and, well, there's a special meeting tomorrow, after workshops, but that's a special one."

[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, God," A.J. wilted a little in relief, rolling his eyes. "Neither do I. I just do all the tech stuff; it's all my roommate's crazy idea anyway, but, yes, you would be the most awesome teacher on the planet if you did this for us, seriously. Not that you and your giant muffin not dirty aren't awesome enough as is it. This is just extra awesome points."

"Totally get a shiny prize," A.J. promised. He'd make her one if he had to. Not that he'd mind. "And, yeah. Tomorrow, evening-ish. In the gym."

[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
"Uhhh, not....quite," A.J. admitted a little sheepishly. "But that's where this," he lifted his cup, "comes in. Go juice. Muse in a cup."

[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly! Ages to work on this, really."

[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
"The Dream Oath," A.J. said. "And not only will there be singing and dancing, but there will be a frog in a twirly evil mustashe and men in drag. You can't go wrong, really."

[identity profile] by137.livejournal.com 2007-07-31 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oooooh."

The look on A.J.'s face definitely suggested that there will need to be pyrotechnics. Yeeeeeesssss.
