Groovy Tunes; Tuesday [ 07/31 ]

Chad went and did all the technical worky stuff he had to do right away, so he could spend the rest of his shift behind the counter, plucking at his guitar. He was working on that whole making a song thing again, but was finding it just really, really difficult. He never had this much trouble with making songs when Pippi was around, and thinking like that just made his shoulder sag and he'd have to go get lost in whatever bassline was playing over the stereos. Or put aside the guitar and find the kittens but they weren't seeming very cuddly today.

Today's Music: Working through the "The" bands still.

He's trying to find a word that rhymes with orange....

Somewhere halfway into his shift, Jeff managed to find a quiet spot - somewhere between the women, rather - to run into Groovy Tunes flailing.

"CHAD!" he yelled, "I have no idea what's going on!"

"Jeff?" Chad turned toward his manic little brother with a frown. "What's wrong?"

"There's women! At the hotel!" Jeff yelled, frantically, "What happened?! They're being nice to me! What happens now?!"

Chad blinked, trying to put all that together. "There's women being nice to you at the hotel and you just left them there to ask me for advice?"

"I don't know what to do," Jeff said, frantic still, "What if they ask me things? What if I say an accidental word? They seem to like me, but is it incidental? What if they dislike me again tomorrow? No woman has noticed me besides the Turbot and the Turtle, Chad! Why are they being nice to me? Is there some kind of conspiracy? Do they want to catch me in my underwear?"

He was flailing.

That wasn't entirely fair. Chad had trouble keeping up with questions if there were more than three of them, but he tried his best to calm his little brother down. "Calm down, Jeff; I don't think," he gave Jeff a look-over, "you should complain about them catching you in your underwear if it's all you're gonna wear. And they're nice because women are nice. That's just how they are."

"They've never been nice to me before! Women are always cross! They want you to do things!" Jeff stared with some valiant conviction at Chad, found his facial expression slipping, got on a far more panicky one, and said, "Oh god, what if they find a way in? Thanks, Chad, but I've really got to go!"

Oh, man. Little Brother was really losing! "Whoa, Jeff. Calm down, man, seriously. Deep breaths! One step at a time. Find a way in where?"

"The hotel!" Jeff said. He may have been hyperventilating a little, "What if they're planning an ambush? They may have just been trying to catch me unawares!"

Chad handed Jeff one of those little paper bags perfect for putting a CD or two in after a purchase. "Breathe," he reminded him with a grunt. "Did you bring Nana with you to work today? Do you need me to go with you and fed them off?"

Which instantly put into mind the sort of image of women tackling him like the other team did in football, only this image was much more the sort that would have Teddy smacking him with a cricket bat if he knew about it.

"I can totally go with you and fend them off if you need me to."

Jeff stared at Chad for a long moment. He was holding a paper bag now, which he did absolutely nothing with, but he was starting to calm down.

After another two minutes of silence, he finally said, "No. No, I think I'll be all right."

And promptly walked out of the store.

Still holding a paper bag. Backwards.

Chad sighed. Guess the fending off the hordes of women trying to flock to Jeff would have to wait for another day. But he was very glad that, apparently, he had a little brother that would need to be protected from hordes of flocking women.

Chase the CD had finally maybe started to lose its appeal. It seemed the new game was Climb on Things and Make them Fall Down so Chad has to Come Pick Them Up.

The The is the "the" band that breaks me brain.
