Turtle & Canary; Monday [ 08/01 ]

Turtle, it seemed, had put up a sign yesterday.

Bart? Want to improve it with yet more glitter.

The result? Well...

Now he was covered in glitter and spreading it all over the store. Oops?

Today's Squishy flavors: Glitter, Sparkle, Red (With glitter)

So you don't have to deal with all the glitter.

Mind you, he has no urges for boykissy. The glitter has yet to work any magic on him.

Toward the end of the work day, Turtle came in with a pie from J, GOB tucked under her arm and looked, wide-eyed, at all the glitter. "Did we get an exploding shipment again?"

Bart stopped spreading glitter long enough to look sheepish. "I wanted to improve your sign."

Turtle breathed a sigh of relief. "Oh, good. I wrote those guys about that, and if they were still letting glitter bombs in their packaging..." She shook her head, letting the imagination decide what she would do to them. Most likely, the imagination was better, as Turtle was just thinking about a lawsuit or a buy-out. She glanced toward the sign. "Has it been working? I'll have to remember to take it down tomorrow, though. Can't have that going on for too long, you know..."

"Well, I haven't had any customers so far..."

"See?" Turtle shook her head lightly. "You overdid it. It's probably scaring them all off."

Bart tilted his head to look at the poster. And the small snow of glitter falling from it still.

"Really? You think?"

Turtle chuckled a little, and held up one hand, forefinger and thumb spaced an inch apart. "Just a bit," she told him, shaking her head. She glanced toward the SquishyBot. Interesting choices; she wondered if bringing Glitter on her date would send the wrong message.

"Hey, didn't I see you at the three minute dates, Bart?"

"Yup! It was fun," Bart replied with a bounce. "Annette was really nice about letting me know what to do."

Turtle quirked an eyebrow. "Annette, huh? What'd she say?"

"Uh-huh!" Bart paused to think about what she said. "I'm supposed to buy a girl drinks and talk about myself."

Turtle's head tilted. "Now, I don't want to say Annette is wrong or anything..." She did. Mostly. "...but she is right about the drinks. But I think, if you're going to try more dates, you should ask her to talk about herself. Most people like to talk about themselves more than listening to someone else yammer on about themselves...."

She said this with grave certainty. Because Turtle Wexler. Yeah, she knew sooo much about dating. But she had a date in just a little bit here and another one on Sunday, so she was doing something right....right?

"Ohhh." Bart nodded, disappearing to grab a notebook to write this down in. "Anything else?"

"Ummm," Turtle scratched the tip of her nose a little as she thought. "You should compliment your date," she said, "and laugh at their jokes, even if they're not very funny." She was basing this purely on what her parents did when they were going to go out for a night. "And don't ever suggest that your date drive, because then she'll get all huffy and be all, 'Jaaaa-ake! These are brand new designer heels! You can't possibly expect me to drive in them! Besides, I plan on getting thoroughly smashed tonight. I've already had two cocktails; I'm in no condition to get behind the wheel and you know it!'"

Bart jotted down everything Turtle said, word for word, underlining DRIVE three times to get the point across. He made a mental not to learn to drive.

"Got it. Does playing X-Box count as a date?"

"No," Turtle said firmly, without even a moment's hesitation.

Bart nodded again, scribbling in Interlac in the notebook. Good. That meant he hadn't accidentally asked Anemone on a date.

That would be weird.
