Turtle & Canary; Tuesday [ 08/07 ]

Turtle had been futilely trying to convince Apu to watch the store for her all day, despite the massive flood of overstock from the decimal error of a few days. He was reluctant, because he knew it wasn't for her classes and because Bart hadn't been into work yesterday, so they were behind and not even Turtle excusing Bart because he was "probably a duck or something" was working.

"I'm your boss, Apu; it's not like I need your permission."

"But since you are the boss, you need to be here to get this all cleared away."

"But Jeff needs me. It says so right in his voicemail. I kept it."

"You kept it?"

"Charlie told me to keep it! Apu! You can handle this. Jane made mistakes bigger than this all the time!"

"You are not shirking out on your responsibilities, are you, Miss Turtle?"

"URGH! If you weren't so valuable to the store, Apu, I'd so be firing you right now."

Today's Squishy flavors: Anger, Decimal, Red.

Annette rushed in after work slowing when she reached the counter. "Hi, Turtle I need some handcuffs please thanks."

As if Apu being...Apu wasn't enough today.

"Ugh! Annette, please tell me you need them because you've got a sudden love for law enforcement, and not because of something you plan on doing with Dick tonight. I can't take this right now; I really can't!"

She thought for a moment. Ignored that.

"What's wrong?"

"Apu doesn't know how to properly place a decimal, so now all our orders are all messed up," Turtle raised her voice pointedly in his direction behind the boxes of antibacterial soap, "and it's a bit of a madhouse and it's probably too late to go save Jeff from whatever because he's probably exploded all over the Arms. And now you want handcuffs. What do you need handcuffs for and will you be destroying the receipts so they can't trace whatever it is you're plotting back to the store and besmudge my good name?"

"Um," she looked over at Apu then back at Turtle. "Jeff needs saving from exploding himself? That just doesn't make sense, Turtle." Annette thought about Jeff for a minute and shook her head. "Nevermind. I'm good with decimals if you want some help and no I won't be destroying the receipts. The handcuffs are for...my spy class. I, um, need to practice my lockpicking skills."

"Lockpicking?" Turtle looked doubtful, but she shrugged. "They're over there, in Aisle ~~handwavey~~..."

Annette found them, brought them back to the counter, and opened her pocketbook to pay for them. Then she thought. Then she ran back to that aisle and grabbed three more pair, running back to the counter. "K. That's all. Oh. And some Red Hots. I want some of those too. Maybe some Lemon Heads."

"Okay, seriously," Turtle said, eying the several pairs of handcuffs. "What are you plotting?"

Annette blinked innocently. "Nothing."

"Why do you need three?"

"Duh, Turtle, in case I lose a pair." Annette did her best to sound nonchalant over the whole thing. Really. Just handcuffs. She was sure everybody had a pair.

Turtle looked over at Annette with a skeptical smirk as she ran them over the scanner to ring them up. "Uh-huh..."

She smiled sweetly and clasped her hands together. "I can't wait to use them!"

Turtle miraculously managed to not roll her eyes. "For your assignment?" she said, dryly.

"Uh-huh. Every good spy has to know how to use these correctly, Turtle. You could get handcuffed to a...pole...or something and have to rely on your own skills to get free. Very important. Yes."

"Or," Turtle offered importantly, "you could just not get caught in the first place. A good spy, it would seem, wouldn't have to worry about it."

"Or I could have to lockpick them to get my partner out of trouble since more than likely I'd be the sneakier of us..." Annette looked too mischievous, really.

"Annette, you're probably about as sneaky as a cow in bal--"

Turtle stopped suddenly, her mouth shifting slightly. Sneaky enough to sneak into a cabin and hack off hair without someone noticing, at any rate. She blinked.

"Okay. You've got a point there."

Annette was thinking about a cow and what Turtle was going to say. She was sure it wasn't going to be nice.

"Yeah," she managed. "But I still need lots of practice. Okay then, well, I better go! Thanks Turtle! Hopefully you'll get to Jeff before he explodes! Bye!"

Marco came in, hoping that Turtle was in a good mood.

The resounding "ARRRRRG!" coming from somewhere in Aisle ~~Handwavey~~ might have given Marco his answer. A few seconds later, Turtle came stomping toward the front counter, calling over her shoulder, "Your decimal, your problem, your job!"

She slumped on the counter, properly on her side again. "Ugh."

And then she saw Marco and blinked at him. "Hi, Marco." She pouted.

Marco blinked back at Turtle. "And here I was hoping you were in a good mood. If I buy something will you cheer up so I can ask you a favor?"

Turtle's nose wrinkled significantly at the mention of a good mood. "...Buying something is good," she said after a moment, and then lifted her chin in intrigue. "What's the favor?"

Marco grabbed a notebook without looking and reached for his wallet. "I need a side-kick for superhero class."

Turtle knew she should have just have had her you're joking, right? look ready to go. "Do I seem like the side-kick type to you, Marco?"

Okay, so she had been Mister Deadpool's sidekick for a while, but that was Mister Deadpool. He was a lot cooler than Marco.

"You seem like a good friend?" Marco said, trying to look as cute as possible.

Turtle narrowed her eyes at Marco critically. She had to give him some credit; that was pretty cute. Not nearly Anders cute, but everyone knew that was never going to happen. "Well," she said after a moment, "I guess I would make a pretty sweet sidekick. Could you handle having a sidekick that could potentially be better than you, but, out of her awesomeness and the graciousness of her heart, lets you have the spotlight anyway?"

Marco grinned. "And the kind of sidekick who could bargen her way through anything?" Yeah, he was sucking up. "Definetly."

Sucking up worked well on a bad day. Turtle grinned a little wryly, leaning forward. "What would be expected of me as a sidekick?" she asked. And she wondered to herself what Jeff might think of this. Did being someone else's sidekick violate some girlfriend code? She'd have to check. It had to be in one of her lawbooks somewhere.

Knowing Fandom, it probably was. "Show up to class on Monday and not mind the crazy teacher." Marco said, grinning. And wondered if Turtle still expected him to buy the notebook.

"...And what do I get out of it, again?"

"The feeling of doing a favor for a friend, me buying this notebook, the knowledge that I picked you over everyone else at school, and uh, a milkshake?" Marco tried.

Marco had her at being picked over any one else in the school, which gave Turtle warm fuzzies, which were nice, but then he had to go and toss in the milkshake. "Ooooooh." See? This is why you always insisted on knowing exactly what was going on, because then people threw in extra stuff. "You've got yourself a sidekick, my friend."

"Awesome." Marco handed over the money for the notebook. "When do you want the milkshake?"

"Before the weekend," Turtle nodded. "I gotta go home for my sister's wedding coming up." She was back to looking like she'd had some bad fruit there.

Marco made a face. "Weddings are fun, as long as you don't know anyone, aren't related to anyone, and don't have any large family secrets. Tomorrow works? For the milkshake, not the wedding."

Turtle nodded. She liked doing things on Wednesday. She felt people were more wont to be nice to her on Wednesday, because otherwise she cold say crap about them on Radio.

"Tomorrow works."

"Awesome. So I'll see you in Luke's?" Marco hoped that was the place that served milkshakes.

"Sure. And then we'll plot world domination and all that fun stuff."

"I get California." Marco insantly replied.

No, he's not chuckling and giggling to himself at his frantic boss. Except that he is. A lot.

Stan came in... to try Decimal. Meh. It needed about 10 times more sugar and about 100 times more flavor.

OH GOD WHAT IS IT??

Pie.

And coffee.

Pie and coffee smells good.

This? Does not smell good at all.
