Magic Box, Wednesday

Andrew ran to the Magic Box that morning. He consulted a list in his pocket and gathered up various items from throughout the store. Ringing himself up, he put the money for the items in the till and said, "Thank you for shopping at the Magic Box, Mr. Wells."

Then he unlocked the front door and hid his purchase away.

The Magic Box is open for all your cosmically mystical material desires.

Finding himself with a lot of free time on his hands, Aziraphale decided to stop in at the Magic Box to see how Andrew was coming with the books he'd borrowed.

"Good day, Mr Wells," he said, as he walked through the door.

With a look of surprise, Aziraphale replied in accentless Persian, "Good show, my dear!"

Then, as if just realizing that he'd actually spoken another language, he added quickly in English, "I'm, er, very pleased to hear it. Are you ready for something new, then?"

"Well, you can drop them by Book Haven on Friday if you like, or we can always set up a time for you to just come visit my library," Aziraphale suggested, smiling. "And you're welcome to hold on to the others until you're quite finished with them."

Aziraphale couldn't help but chuckle at the young man's enthusiasm. "Well then, you're in luck, because it just so happens that I love to show it off. What do you say about tomorrow, if that isn't too sudden?"

He pondered Andrew's question for a moment. "Well, I don't know that I really learned to speak Persian. I just...speak them. Languages I mean. All of them."

"Then tomorrow night it is. I live at 50-A Minotaur Lane, and you just stop in whenever you like. James is out of town, so I haven't any plans."

Aziraphale smiled. "Quite, my dear. All of them. Every language spoken by man, and a few that aren't."

Well, that was unexpected. Aziraphale gave Andrew a weird look. It was definitely a demonic language, you just couldn't mistake that sort of thing, but not one that he recognized.

Lucifer would probably know. Maybe he should see about coaxing the young man over to the Nest sometime. Just to see what the Adversary made of him.

"Terribly sorry, my dear, but you've got me on that one. Although I must say that I'm more than a little bit curious to know how you might have picked it up."

Aziraphale's eyebrow went up. "Was your older brother Tucker a demon, then?"

Not that he actually thought this was the case. But he figured it was a good way to try and draw out the real explanation.

[ooc: Damn those unexpected life things! ;) ]

"Oh, a good bit, my dear," Aziraphale chuckled. "Although I will admit to knowing very little about the various lesser types. That isn't really my field of expertise. Your fire and brimstone Lord of Flies sort, though -- those I can tell you plenty about."

He cocked his head at Andrew. "And how much do you know about them?"

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh really." Not that Aziraphale had anything against learning, but he wasn't sure demonology was on his list of things young people ought to be studying.

Then again, as Crowley always said, most Satanists were a pretty dull and harmless lot. Much like Anglicans, really.

"Oh, I suppose you'd say I just picked it up. Bit of a necessary topic in my line of work, though."

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Thwarting," Aziraphale replied, with a chuckle. "And on occasion, smiting. Also, I tend bar part-time."

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Er..."

Aziraphale had opened his mouth to agree that yes, he also taught. But he got stuck on Andrew's stated goal of smiting. "You, er, aspire to smiting something deserving, I hope?"

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I hope you will take my class," Aziraphale replied, pleased to be off the topic of smiting. "If all goes as I hope, I should be lecturing on prophecy."

Not that he wasn't going to be keeping a close eye on Andrew from here on.

"I have to admit to a fondness for gingersnaps, but really, I'm not certain there's any sort of biscuit I don't like. And what about you?"

[identity profile] a-phale.livejournal.com 2007-08-09 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Quite, my dear. I'll see what I can find that might interest you, but you're welcome to browse through my books as well."

Aziraphale smiled, and then said, "And I'd best be off, and let you get back to work. It's been lovely talking to you, Mr Wells."

[ooc: Blech, I know. Mine too. Night!]
