The Beach, Sunday Afternoon

Tori was all set to go for the surf lesson she was giving Robin. She had her surfboard on her lap and was waxing it, while waiting for him to show up.

She had a feeling this would be fun.

After getting off from work, Robin dashed back to his room, put on his swimsuit, and grabbed his weetiny surfboard (a wakeboard really) and made it down to the beach.

"Hi Tori!"

"Hey Robin," Tori waved, smiling brightly. "You ready?"

"Absolutely." he nodded. "What do I do first?"

"Okay, great," Tori grinned. "First, you need to learn how to properly get on your board, so you don't fall off into the water. We can practice on the sand first and then we can try it in the water, if you'd like?"

"Okay. That sounds good." He set his board down on the sand.

"Okay, this maneuver is called a pop-up," Tori began, after setting her board down in the sand, next to Robin. "The first thing you do is lay down flat on your board. That's how you're going to paddle through the water."

Robin lay down on the board with his arms out to either side to paddle. "Like this?"

"Yes, just like that. Perfect," Tori nodded, smiling. "Okay, the next thing you want to do is push up and arch your back like so. This will help you to keep the board straight before moving into your surfer stance."

Robin watched, and copied her posture. "Okay."

"The last thing you do, after your in this position," Tori continued, "you jump to your feet, like so." She demonstrated the last move, doing it with ease that comes with practice. "Simple enough, right?"

Robin did as she instructed, and only wobbled a little bit on the uneven sand.

"Good job," Tori smiled. "If you want, we can run through it one more time and then try it in the water?"

"Sounds good." Robin tested the movement of the board on the sand, getting a feel for it. "Yeah, once more."

"It actually might seem easier once we're in the water, as silly as that may sound," Tori admitted. "Okay, once more."

She went through the pop-up steps one more time, so Robin would feel more comfortable trying it out in the water.

More prepared this time around, he got it down. "Okay, I'm ready."

"All right," Tori smiled and walked down to the water's edge. "To start off, we'll stay in the shallower part of the water, where the waves aren't as powerful. That way, you can practice pop-ups without having to worry about the waves throwing you off."

"Okee dokie." He carried his board into the shallows. Which weren't nearly as shallow for him as for her, but being a frog, that hardly mattered.

"You ready to try?" Tori smiled. "I'll spot you."

"Sure." He clambered up onto the board, lying on his belly.
