Caritas, Saturday Evening

Ellen got to work in a fairly cheerful mood and managed to maintain it despite Tino's suddenly sullen attitude. For some reason, she was thinking about dogs. Maybe she should get a puppy?

In any case, she opened the bar for the night and spent a good bit of time mentally listing the reasons she probably shouldn't.

The band is ready to play whatever you request. Right now they're going through a lot of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Ellen's there, as well as Tino, who is sort of sullen but willing to be modded for your convenience.

Realizing he hadn't stopped by in a few weeks, Fraser found himself in Caritas tonight and taking a seat at the bar.

"Good evening," he said, already smiling.

"Hey," Ellen said, smiling back as she walked down the bar to the mountie. "Long time no see."

"Indeed," he said, nodding. "I apologize for that. Between the school being almost completed and some other issues, my time has rarely been my own."

She shrugged a shoulder dismissively. "Don't worry about it - at least I knew you hadn't off and died or anything. How've you been amongst all the working though?"

"I've been..." He actually had no idea how he'd been. He hadn't really thought about it. "Tired, mostly."

Ellen smiled, understanding, and reached out to cover his hand with her own for a moment. "I'll just bet. You want something to wind down with, since you're here, by the way?"

"Whatever you'd recommend," he said, turning his hand over to clasp hers for a moment.

She was too old to be getting a thrill from just the feel of his hand holding hers, Ellen told herself sternly. Of course, that didn't stop it from happening.

Giving Benton a pleased smile, she moved down the bar and returned shortly with a Black Russian. "From what I can see from down here, y'all have done well at getting the school back up."

"Thank you," he said, curling a hand around the glass. "It's nearly complete. I'm just glad it's going to be done before the new semester starts. I'd hate for new students to come and see the school still in pieces. And yourself, how have you been? Well, I hope."

"I'm impressed how much you guys got done in such a short time," Ellen said, smiling. "And I've been pretty good - mostly working and taking trips to the mainland."

"Anything interesting on the mainland?" Fraser asked. "It's been awhile since I've found time to go off island. Has technology progressed even further without me?"

"Not sure what it's like from your end, but compared to 1997, there's a lot out there I've never seen before," Ellen said, giving a small, long-sufferingly amused sigh. "All kinds of gadgets I didn't even realize anyone needed."

"Radios still confuse me," he told her and shook his head at himself. "And I think I purchased the simplest one they had. Or, at least, that's what the kind employee told me."

Ellen chuckled. "I can usually fix things around the roadhouse - or know when it's beyond me, but I'm glad there's someone else who doesn't think computers are the end-all and be-all."

"I have one of those in my office," he said. "I think I've turned it on once. And then got stuck on the first screen. And then couldn't quite figure out how to turn it back off. And I'm in charge of things. I'd be scared if I weren't me and not...I just confused myself."

Animal makes his presence known at the bar by sitting down howling like a dog in order to get the bartender's attention.

And then ending it with a very polite.

"Beer, please."

Rikku was riding the severe high of two days away from Fandom and a superawesome hotel and a wonderful amazing boyfriend and ... and there was a weird shirtless guy at the bar, howling.

She bounced up to him. "You, uh. Are you new here?"

Just like clockwork, any time she left, all the really interesting stuff happened.

"Not quite!" Animal said with a wild grin. His hand shot up to give the fist of rock and shouted.

"CHICK-CHICKY-BOOM!"

Rikku stared.

"Doooooo .... I know you?" she asked. "'Cause I'll totally sing Cuban Pete with you but, uh. You ... don't look familiar."

"Awww, Rikku. You're breaking my heart," Animal said holding a hand to his bare chest. "Have you forgotten your favorite singing partner? How we serenaded your boyfriend and left him gasping for breath on the restaurant floor?"

Rikku blushed, giggling. "Okay, you know my name. And I don't usually serenade Jude, I'm not sure he'd ..."

Except that one time, with the Malibu Stacy twins ...

Her jaw dropped. "ANIMAL?!?!"

No. Way.

Animal gave her that wild grin again and accompanied it with a devil's horn hand gesture.

"In the flesh. Ain't it bitchin?" Animal finished his beer quickly and signalled Tino for more. "Happened before back in the summer but only for the weekend. I figure I've got another day or so before I turn human again so I have to live it up."

Rikku stared, and then laughed, clapping her hands. "No way. No way! This is so great! So what are you doing? What have you been getting up to? We have to do something big. I mean, this is huge, yeah?!"

"Oh dude... we are so going to party," Animal said slamming down another beer. "Before I'm done? I've got to totally ROCK this island."

"I'm game," she grinned. "We could get some pranking done. Break things or whatever. What do you have in mind?"

"Get drunk?" Animal suggested, "And then see where the night takes us. Tino! We need shots! Lot's of shots!"

"No, no, no, no, no," Rikku said quickly. "No shots for me. I get really stupid when I'm drunk and then I puke the next day. It's bad. You drink! We'll break things another time!"

"Okay... how about one shot for you and then we willingly do something stupid," Animal offered. "But it must be a grand stupid gesture!"

Rikku considered, then nodded. "Yeah, okay. Just one shot can't hurt, right?"

She giggled. "We should tick off Umbridge, but that's a bad idea. She's all crazy."

Animal had already downed one shot, was about to drink another and was handing one to Rikku.

"Um-who?" Animal asked looking confused. "Is that the wacky lady with the PA fetish?"

Rikku downed the shot quickly. "Ooooh!" she giggled. "I like that! It kinda tickles."

Two couldn't hurt, right? No. She'd stick with one. ... Maybe.

"That's the crazy principal lady who's taking over and being awful to people." Rikku made a face. "We can't tick her off too much 'cause she's hurting some of them, like badly, and if she does that to people I like, then I have to hurt her and that gets bad."

"Whoa. Heinous," Animal said shaking his head. "She sounds like a total buzzkill. Frankly? I don't see why she should be an obstacle to our fun. After all we should be doing something for the school. Like... giving them the gift of music."

Quiet back here.

Mmmmm, I'm hungry.
