Fandom Post Office; Monday [ 08/27 ]

Setsuna came in that morning for her last shift, writing out a nice note of apology for Moist because she was barely giving him the usual two weeks notice. And the settled in for what would be a usually quiet afternoon, her suitcase and Yuunagi at her feet, ready to leave for the airport as soon as her shift finished.

She eyes went over toward Not Tiddles, narrowing slightly. "I feel no regret in saying that I will not miss you in the slightest."

Not Tiddles' head tilted; the cat was sitting there quietly, tail whipping lazily behind him, looking up at Setsuna. He let out a questioning meow.

"Not one bit."

Another meow, and then the cat got up, moving behind the counter. Setsuna got ready to jerk her leg away from yet another slash of paw, but Not Tiddles wasn't scratching her; instead, he started rubbing up against her leg and purring.

"Oh, don't even," she muttered angrily at him. "You're just doing that because you're happy I'll be gone and because you know I have my sword with me right now until I send it out before I'm finished here today."

The Post Office is open.

None of the boxes she's finding seem big enough for Yuunagi.

John popped in to see if he had a letter from a job prospect. Oh, hey, Werechicken!

Setsuna gave John a small nod when he came in. "No packages for you today, I don't think," she told him, knowing that what he'd come in for last week.

"Nah, it's cool. I'm looking for a letter, actually. Possible off-island employment."

"Really?" Setsuna's head tilted as she moved toward the received letters to shift through them for one addressed to John. "Thinking of pursuing something a little different than the teaching bit?"

"Sorta. I'm...stuck. I mean, part of me wants to stay on Fandom because I'll be safe. I'm hard to find here, and if something does come through, I've access to things to take care of it. I've got people who can back me up if needed. So...membership has its privileges," he said with a small smile.

"But if I'm out there, I can try to alter how it happens, make it happen on my terms. Or happen not at all, which then makes my brain hurt because if it doesn't happen then certain things don't work out like it's supposed to and I'm not sure what happens to me."

"Well," Setsuna said with a bit of a rueful smile over her shoulder, "it should be no surprise to you that I can understand where you're coming from. Whether I'm leaving Mahora or leaving Fandom, it's always the same predicament..." She frowned slightly as she turned back to the letters, fingers quickly dancing through them as she looked.

"You're still leaving, then." It wasn't a question.

"I told you that I wasn't, didn't I."

Also not a question.

"When are you leaving?" That was a question.

"I have to catch a taxi to the airport as soon as my shift is over."

He blinked. "What, today? When are you coming back? Are you? Coming back?"

"The intention is not to," Setsuna said, her head ducking slightly.

"I'm afraid I don't see a letter for you here, John. I'm sorry."

He sighed. "Well, that sucks. On both counts. You gonna be okay wherever? Gonna write me?"

"If you'd like me to," Setsuna said with a nod. "Although then, who would give you the letters?"

"I'm not sure. Maybe Fandom here has a re-mailing re-directing thing. And I'll write you, even if I'm off this rock. You need help, I'll come running."

"My connections in Japan are very strong, John; I doubt I'll need any added assistance." But Setsuna was smiling lightly. "Thank you, though, for the offer."

"And if I need you, you'll come running? Er, flying? 'Eeek! There's a spiiiderrr! Kill it!' type thing?" he said with a grin. "So this is goodbye?"

Setsuna gave him a steady look, the same nearly eye-rolling expression she always gave when he started being sarcastic. "If I'm able, yes, I'll help. And, yes, this is goodbye, I suppose."

"I'll miss you," he said. "Hugs?"

Setsuna frowned at John, shoulders sagging slightly.

"Do I have to?"

"No, but then you'l miss out on my famous spinny hugs."

"....I think I'll be able to live with that."

"It's your loss," he said. "Okay, and mine too." His smile was sad. Not quite emo, but sad.

"John," Setsuna said, because that sad smile was not fair. "You know I'm not much of a hugging sort of person. I didn't even hug Alphonse last night when I broke the news to him."

"Yeah, you're not big on the physical contact. But still, if you happened to walk by and trip, and I happened to save you, you won't lose face." He wasn't using puppydog eyes.

Yet.

"How'd Al take it?"

"Alphonse is amazing," Setsuna said, with a nod and a soft, sad smile, and just left it at that.

He gave another sad smile. "Has Fandom made you a better person?" he asked.

"I like to think so, yes."

"Then it has been a good run for you," he said. "Keep in touch, Werechicken."

"...Only if you stop calling me Werechicken."

"I don't think that's ever going to happen, Sensei," he said with a slight bow. "It's a shame you're leaving after your shift. I'm going to have to serenade you in your absense at Caritas tonight."

"Yes," Setsuna deadpanned. "Downright shame to be missing that."

"Oh, but it will be," John said. "It might have to be multiple songs, even, to express my gratitude." He's just stalling until spinny hugs are over.

As you do.

And they never did eat anything...

Only a few hours of availability this morning and a few hours tonight, but that's all. *pouts* Please be modding your post office needs, unless you're not at all opposed to some SP.
