Andrew was in research mode. He had the counter piled high with books and notebooks and was scanning page after page at a furious pace.

Under his breath, he was muttering, "M'Fashnick, M'Fashnick..."

"Not at all like mmmmm cookies," Dawn told him helpfully, as soon as she figured out what he was saying. "Hey, Andrew. Giles around?"

Andrew looked up, a bit startled. "Dawn! I haven't seen you in ages."

He looked about the shop, knowing that Mr. Giles wasn't there, but feeling like it was the right thing to do anyway.

"No, doesn't look like he's here. He hasn't been in all day."

"I know, I suck," she said, leaning over the counter to see what he was reading, "You still settling in okay? What's with the M'Fashniks?"

"I feel pretty well settled. I've made friends!" This still amazed Andrew.

He glanced at the books and not so discretely shut his open notebook. "M'what-nik? I'm just doing a little light reading. Keeping the old brain working while we're out of class."

He picked up the closest book and showed it to Dawn. "See, it's in Persian. When I first came to Fandom, I didn't even read Persian."

"Congratulations!" She said, hoping this meant there would be less demon summoning in his future, then she rolled her eyes at him. Maybe not. "M'Fashnik demons. You were muttering about them under your breath when I came in? And oooh, Persian. Wait. You learned to read Persian since May?"

Andrew just decided to overlook the bit about the demon. "Yeah! Aziraphale lent me some books and one was in Persian, so naturally, I had to learn the language to read it. It's really interesting. It has roots, of course, in a lot of older, um, lesser known languages."

He smiled at Dawn and asked, "So how is everything with you, Dawn? Are you looking forward to some new classes?"

"Glad the hose beast is gone, and um, sort of? I don't remember exactly what I signed up for," she shrugged, "and yeah, I know what you mean about the Persian. The Sumerian was kind of like that, when I was learning."

"Yeah, Umbridge was bad news." Andrew frowned, "I was really surprised she lasted as long as she did with all the stuff that was getting done to her. Did you manage to avoid her okay?"

He thought it was probably best not to tell Dawn about the monkeys -- seeing as how Mr. Giles had been a tad bit upset about them and all.

"Not so much, no," she admitted, lowering her arm and glad she'd worn long sleeves, "but I'll be fine. Does that mean you stayed away from her?"

Andrew grimaced. He was concerned about what Umbridge might have done to his possible future friend and coworker. "Did she hurt you? That woman was pure evil, Dawn. I have no regrets for what I did." He nodded.

"What did you do?" Not that she was arguing about the evil part.

Very quickly Andrew said, "I sicked a pack of demonic flying monkeys on here while she was in her office. Hey did you see the school play?"

"Demonic flying--" Dawn facepalmed, then spoke into her hands, "No. Why, did they act, too?"

It took Andrew a moment. "Oh! No, they were long gone by that point. But I was in the play. I was the lead, actually. The closest I ever got to being on stage in Sunnydale was when this other kid got sick and I got to be an off-stage voice one night."

"Oh! Congratulations! How'd it go?" Then she remembered the other topic, "How'd you get the monkeys to listen to you?"

"It went great! Of course, I looked like John Sheppard at the time, but still, the play was awesome." Andrew smiled.

"And flying monkey aren't that hard to control," he replied casually. "You just have to speak the right language and threaten them intelligently."
