Turtle & Canary; Friday [ 09/07 ]

Her mood improved a bit from yesterday, Turtle got to the store a little early so that she might set up for Sora's first day. She had all prepared for him a nice nametag and a Packet of Dooooooom with proper procedures and expectations and forms in triplicate. When he would arrive, she'd take him through the grand tour and start teaching him the ropes and the showing him the basics. Wait, no. Scratch that. Reverse it. There we go.

The newer, verbose sign had been taken down and replaced with the older, simpler, much more glittery...er "Help Wanted" sign.

Especially is Turtle's busy ~~torturing~~ teaching Sora about something or she's in class.

Because everyone loves her, of course.

"TURTLE!" Jeff burst into the shop, beaming up a storm. "There's a party tonight! With dancing!" Without waiting for a response, he slid some drawings in front of her. "I've been working on some choreography, what do you think?"

With a quirked eyebrow, Turtle observed Jeff's face for a moment for some indication of whether or not he was serious and saw that, unfortunately, he was. "Choreography, huh?" she asked, leaning in to have a look at the drawings, head tilting to make sense of them.

It was Jeff. They made little sense, unless he was attempting to describe the hypothetical offspring of Bitterwoman and an insect of some kind. Unperturbed, however, he simply grinned a few watts bigger at Turtle. "I invented this dance!" he declared.

"Well," Turtle said, shifting the paper on the counter to see it from a different angle to see if that would help. It didn't. "Won't do you a whole lot of good unless you've got a name for it. Do you have one?"

She might have also been hoping that a name might give insight into what the heck it was. She doubted it. Strongly. But it was worth a try.

"I call it," Jeff said, failing entirely to suppress his enthusiasm despite the affected seriousness, "The Mantusi Skip."

"The Mantusi Skip," Turtle repeated, partly to test it out but mostly to help in trying to keep back a laugh or from grinning too much and therefor giving herself away. She nodded. "Catchy. I like it."

"I think it's the best dance I've ever invented," Jeff grinned like a loon, picking the drawings up again and waving them around enthusiastically.

"Have you invented many others?"

"Seven," Jeff said.

"Seven?" The unexpected number made Turtle grin. She couldn't help it really; it was cute that he actually knew, and she did appriciate people who knew their quantifiers. "Do they all have names, too, or has this been the first worthy of a title?"

"Well, and a half," Jeff said, after some deliberation. "I think the Christmas Hop was really more of a walk with a twirl." He paused. "Most of them just have numbers," he confessed, "It's taken me some time to work up to that level of creativity."

"Well," Turtle said, still grinning and no more understanding of the Mantusi Skip than she was when she first glanced at it, "that's to be expected. This is clearly no normal level of creativity." There was a pause as she slid the paper back toward Jeff. "I suppose if I wanted to see it, I'd have to go to that party."

Jeff nodded enthusiastically. "You should come!" he enthused enthusedly in an enthusing fashion, "It's River's party, she's going to help pull that..." his voice dropped, "...coup," then went back to the-- well, enthusing, "And I felt it would be a good show of support for the community."

He felt that might appeal to Turtle.

There was hesitation. Turtle remembered seeing the poster and how it was one of those shirtless things and she, as a rule, tried to avoid those. Buuuuut....

"Do you want me to come?" she asked.

In the face of all of this enthusiasm, Jeff experienced a strange and unfamiliar moment of sanity. "You're my girlfriend," he said, "I'm not certain it'd be a party without you."

And then the moment passed, like the wind. "Or your hair, naturally."

And that first part was just so nice and made Turtle grin enough that she didn't even think to consider that Jeff wasn't actually talking about her hair. "Well," she said, "I'll have to be there, then, now, won't I?" She didn't sound like she minded that much, though. Not after that.

"Excellent!" Jeff declared, literally bouncing on his feet. He gave Turtle the thumbs up, then walked backwards out of the store, grinning at her until she was out of his sight.

If he happened to hit someone out on the street, well, that was nobody's business.

Sulley had mustered up the courage to go into town. Okay, so it wasn't so much mustering as giving in because he really wanted to brush his teeth and didn't have a toothbrush. Unfortunately, he and Apu didn't seem to understand each other. Sulley kinda had that effect on people sometimes. "Uh, miss, maybe you can help me?"

Turtle's eyes were a little wide for a significant moment before she could answer. Thankfully, she'd been in Fandom long enough that she usually didn't think twice about things like this...and it was Friday, although this sort of thing usually happen on a Saturday, and she had finished up that will when the dinosaurs came in. So she figured she could...Wow, he was big.

"Maybe?" Turtle offered warily. "Um, what is that you need...?"

As soon as she asked it, she felt a slight change in attitude. If he was a customer...? Her store was starting to appeal to a wider demographic that went beyond strictly, mostly humanoid creatures, apparently! That? Was exciting! She really, really hoped that she'd have whatever this...monster thing wanted.

Unless it was to eat her, because that would not be cool.

"A toothbrush would be a good start." He thought for a moment. "I don't know what else I need. I don't have anything."

...Anything? A little bell of excitement went off in Turtle's head and she straightened. "Well," Turtle said with a winning smile, "you're in luck, because we so happen to have everything. Everything you could ever need, toothbrushes and more! In fact..."

And then, as suddenly as the excitement arrive, a horrible, terrible, awful thought struck Turtle. Terrible, awful, frightening and her eyes widened again. "Wait," she said, "by 'don't have anything,' that doesn't include...um, not having any money, too, does it?"

It didn't look like he had pockets, after all.

Sulley rummaged around in his fur and pulled out two $50 bills that constituted his 'scholarship' from the school to get him started. "I have this." Money in the monster world looked different. He thought it was money, at least, or it was really bad lettuce.

Turtle's hand instantly fell against her chest. "Ohthankgod," she breathed in relief, sinking slightly to get over that moment of pure fear before taking the offered bills, and smoothing them out on the counter. "Is this all you have?" Turtle asked, getting the distinct feeling that this...um, fellow was sort of in the same boat as Hoshi with money, or maybe like Sokka and Rikku, where they needed some advising on how to go about investing. "This is good to get started with, especially if all you need is a toothbrush at the moment, but...it'll only stretch so far."

"I just got here, but I guess I could get a job to get more money if I need it. Will I need it?"

"Most likely," Turtle said with a nod, because, really, why wouldn't you need more money. "I mean, sure, you could probably live off of the food everyone makes in the common room," assuming that the big furry guys with the horns and the teeth would eat common room food, which she certainly hoped was the case, "assuming you are a student and not a townie. If you're here to live and not go to school, then absolutely definitely going to need more. Thankfully, it's quite easy to get a job around here, lots of businesses."

She added a pause for dramatic effect; and maybe for the big furry guy to keep up. "We're hiring, actually," she submitted. "Sora there," she nodded to the boy, "just started today! Tuesdays and Saturdays still available, if you're interested?"

Having a big, blue furry guy could be really good for business, she figured, because a noticeably diverse employment base was a key element to a successful business, especially here, and she didn't think she could get much more diverse than a big, blue furry guy.

"I'm a student," he said hurriedly, clinging to that so he wouldn't get cut up and experimented on or set on fire. His imagination had expanded the terrible possibilities to fire. Lots of fire. Then he got over that and realized what she was offering. Sulley looked around. "Yeah! I mean, yes please. I'd love to work here." He paused and then added something as an afterthought. "Ma'am."

A bright smile started blossoming on Turtle's face, and she held it back to maintain her Very Important Businesswoman expression and retreated the happy dance to inside of her head only. She was bound to be able to get some sort of special privledge for diverse employment for this guy. Awesome, awesome, awesome. "Great! Good to hear! Excellent!" she chirped happily and, in a manner of seconds, she had an application out, offering it to the big blue guy. "My names Turtle, and I own half the business here, so I'll be your boss. If you could just fill out these forms? Don't worry; they're specially designed to be simple and easy if you're not exactly from this world, or human, and things like that. What day might you be interested in taking, Tuesday or Saturday? Or even both, if you want. Bart works two days a week, so that's not unusual."

"To be honest, I don't know how long I'm going to be here, so one day is probably better. Saturday would be great." He'd perked up considerably.

Turtle nodded a little. "Great! Wanna come in tomorrow, then, get you right started in with training? Or would you rather wait 'til next week?"

She might have been bouncing on her toes a little bit; she loved when things turned out so....streamlined.

"Sure, I can come in tomorrow. First thing in the morning?"

Turtle's head bobbed in a nod. "Seven o'clock sharp. I'll meet you here and get things all set up for your training." Three days of training in a row! Yay!

"Great!" Sulley was excited. "I'll be here! One thing. Could I still get my toothbrush today?"

Turtle snorted a laugh. "Heh, yeah," she said; she was very pleased that her newest employee had such a strong concern for his dental hygiene (of which she and all her toothaches caught probably stand to follow). "They're in Aisle ~~Handwavey~~."

"Thanks." He went and retrieved the biggest toothbrush he could find and some mouthwash and a large hairbrush. He couldn't find any odorant, only deodorant whatever that was, so he decided to leave it for another day. While doing this, he took great care to hold his tail so he wouldn't knock everything over. He'd learned that much with Karal's room. Then he handed over the money to pay for it. "I'll be back tomorrow. Bright and early! Thank you again."

"Thank you!" Turtle enthused brightly as she rang him up, with the new student discount for the moment because that was more than the standing employee discount, and handed him his change. "Enjoy your toothbrush, and I'll see you tomorrow!"

Sulley scooped up his things, gave a brief wave and disappeared out the door.

After a while, Turtle threw Sora out into the pit to make him work with her watchful eyes on him, hoping plenty of customers would come in to ~~torture~~ be served by the new employee. If he isn't nervous, than Turtle isn't doing her job properly.

Sora was nervous, Sora was veeeeeeery nervous. But he had to trust in the training that Turtle gave him and do his best.

WHEEEEEEEEEEE, new employee day.

Hey jsut a head up. I'm sick again andso running slow. I have to get back from break. but I'll throw Sora in ASAP. *work computers run SLOOOOOOW*

No worries; I'm actually heading to REAL work in about 45 minutes, so it's all up to Sora after this until I get home. *snerk* GOOD LUCK! =D

Okay. It would have been sooner if we hadn't had a meeting that took up all my lunch.
